GOOD MORNING KIRA!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Over the last few days, the rain has been few and far between and today will be no exception.
The weekend overall is shaping up to be pretty nice as a summer like weather pattern stays in place. Mostly sunny skies will greet us as we wake on our Saturday morning with the possibility of some patchy fog, especially across our inland areas.
A few fair weather clouds will be mixing in with our sunshine during the afternoon hours. Even though the calendar says it's fall, our temperatures will feel anything but fall like, as most spots will aim for the lower 90s. Due to the west coast seabreeze, coastal and beach locations will remain just shy of that 90° mark.
With plenty of humidity around, isolated showers and storms will favor the afternoon and early evening hours close to the urban corridor. Rain prospects will hold around 30%, so not everyone will see the rain, but if you do expect a heavy downpour and frequent lightning.
By sunset, the rain will come to an end and skies will clear out nicely as temperatures drop into the mid 70s with a few inland spots in the lower 70s.
Sunday will offer us a few more clouds dotting our skies as winds become a bit more southerly. While most of the rain will hold off until the afternoon, a few mid to late morning showers can't be ruled out before any activity gets pushed inland during the day.
A weather system to our north will stall across the peninsula, while drawing up plenty of tropical moisture early next week. This means more clouds and scattered rain with an unsettled pattern through the middle part of the week.
Not much is happening in the tropics. Hurricane Nadine continues to hang on in the central Atlantic, while it remains no threat to any landmasses

PRESIDENT OBAMA AND MITT ROMNEY GET READY TO SQUARE OFF AGAINST ONE ANOTHER.
THE FIRST DEBATE IS COMING UP WEDNESDAY IN DENVER.
ANDERSON COOPER TAKES A LOOK BACK --
AT JUST HOW PIVOTAL THESE DEBATES HAVE BEEN IN PAST ELECTIONS.
Return to index of stories...
I been there now.
SEPTEMBER 26TH, 1960. THE FIRST TELEVISED PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE, SIGNALING A NEW ERA WHERE APPEARANCES MATTER MORE THAN AN EVER AND GAFFES, HOWEVER SMALL, ARE MAGNIFIED.
The goals are the same for all Americans.
JOHN F. KENNEDY, A YOUNG SENATOR FROM MASSACHUSETTS, FACING OFF AGAINST VICE PRESIDENT RICHARD NIXON, WHO'S KNOWN TO BE A FIERCE DEBATER. BUT ON SCREEN, KENNEDY LOOKS COOL AND CALM. WHILE NIXON LOOKS UNCOMFORTABLE, SWEATING PROFUSELY UNDER THE HOT STUDIO LIGHTS.
I think I better shave.
NIXON FLOUNDERS UNDER THE GLARE OF TELEVISION FOR ALL FOUR DEBATES. KENNEDY GOES ON TO WIN THE ELECTION. IN 1976, PRESIDENT GERALD FORD MAKES THIS BLUNDER IN HIS DEBATE WITH GEORGIA GOVERNOR JIMMY CARTER:
There is no Soviet domination of Eastern Europe and there never will be under a Ford administration.
I'm sorry, what?
THE REMARK BECOMES A CENTRAL THEME IN CARTER'S CAMPAIGN AGAINST FORD, AND IS BLAMED BY MANY FOR COSTING HIM THE ELECTION. IN 1980, RONALD REAGAN IS REPEATEDLY ATTACKED BY PRESIDENT CARTER FOR HIS STANCE ON HEALTH CARE.
Governor Reagan as a matter of fact began his political career campaigning around this nation against medicare.
BUT REAGAN WINS FANSaÿAND THE ELECTION BY STAYING COOLaÿ
There you go again!
FOUR YEARS LATER PRESIDENT REAGAN HANDLES ATTACKS ON HIS AGE DURING HIS DEBATE WITH WALTER MONDALE WITH HUMOR.
I want you to know also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience.
IN THE NEXT ELECTION, DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE MICHAEL DUKAKIS IS ASKED THIS CONTROVERSIAL QUESTION IN HIS DEBATE WITH VICE PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH.
Governor, if Kitty Dukakis were raped and murdered, would you favor an irrevocable death penalty for the killer?
No, I don't Bernard and I think you know that I've opposed the death penalty during all of my life.
THE PUBLIC SEES HIS ANSWER AS COLD AND DISPASSIONATE AND THAT VERY NIGHT HIS POLL NUMBERS DROP. DURING THE 1988 VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE, REPUBLICAN SENATOR DAN QUAYLE'S COMPARISONS TO JOHN F. KENNEDY ELICITS THIS BLISTERING RESPONSE FROM HIS OPPONENT:
Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.
BODY LANGUAGE PLAYS A PART IN THE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE IN 1992. GEORGE H.W. BUSH DELIBERATELY LOOKS AT HIS WATCH AND HE PAYS FOR IT WHEN THE AUDIENCE, AND VOTERS, SEE IT AS DISRESPECTFUL.
BODY LANGUAGE MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE DEBATE BETWEEN AL GORE AND GEORGE W BUSH AS WELL. GORE SIGHS OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND BUSHaÿTHE UNDERDOG SURPRISES BY WINNING THE DEBATE AND OF COURSE THE ELECTION. BOTH PRESIDENT OBAMA AND GOVERNOR ROMNEY ARE SEASONED DEBATERS AND EXPERTS SAY NEITHER IS PRONE TO MAKING MAJOR GAFFES. BUT IF THERE'S ONE THING HISTORY'S TAUGHT US, WHEN IT COMES TO PRESIDENTIAL DEBATES EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED.
ANDERSON COOPER, CNN

Sunday will offer us a few more clouds dotting our skies as winds become a bit more southerly. While most of the rain will hold off until the afternoon, a few mid to late morning showers can't be ruled out before any activity gets pushed inland during the day.
A weather system to our north will stall across the peninsula, while drawing up plenty of tropical moisture early next week. This means more clouds and scattered rain with an unsettled pattern through the middle part of the week.
Not much is happening in the tropics. Hurricane Nadine continues to hang on in the central Atlantic, while it remains no threat to any landmasses

MEET CHARLIE.
SHE DANCES AND HAS FUN, BUT THIS ROBOT HAS A SERIOUS SIDE TOO.
CHARLIE IS SHORT FOR CHILD CENTERED ADAPTIVE ROBOT FOR LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS, DESIGNED TO HELP KIDS WITH AUTISM.
"She is designed to promote basic communication skills. Two of the most important communication skills are imitation and turn taking."
"Charlie is designed to be handled by kids but oops sometimes kids play hard which is why she has some break away features."
"We want the robot to just be sitting on a table, and allow the child to explore her, touch the eyes, touch the nose, and the hands and get to know her so she and he feels comfortable interacting with the robot."
SHE CAN BE REMOTE CONTROLLED BY A THERAPIST, BUT ALSO HAS A SENSOR IN HER NOSE TO DETECT AND IMITATE MOTIONS.
"She looks for the hand shapes and then she'll detect them and she'll imitate the movement."
CREATOR LAURA BOCCANFUSO ALSO WANTS TO KNOW WHEN A CHILD GETS AGITATED.
"That infrared sensor is super high precision so we can take changes in the skin temperature right under your nose and capture changes related to breathing."
WHILE SOME KIDS RESPOND WELL, OTHERS MAY NOT.
"In some cases if there seems to be a very quick escalation and we understand what preceded that event and we can earn a little bit more."
