After seeing abundant sunshine to close out September, our weather will now take a turn for the wetter side as we head into the first week of October.
We'll start off your Monday with several coastal showers through that morning that will gradually edge inland as we go through midday. A lot of this rain will get carried toward the interior later in the afternoon, but more showers will likely develop behind this activity, keeping all of us at risk for a passing shower at any time today.
Even though our rain chances will be fairly high today , we'll still see some dry periods, so don't expect the entire day to be a washout. Just prepare for being in and out of showers through the day with some of the rain potentially being very heavy. We'll also see the possibility for some thunderstorms in the mix with a few producing gusty winds and lots of lightning.
Another change we'll notice in our weather for the next couple days is the breeze. Winds will start to ramp up out of the southwest today, ranging from 10-20 mph with some higher gusts.
For those looking forward to more sunshine, you may have to wait a while. It looks as though we'll stay locked in this stormier weather pattern through Wednesday, so we'll continue to see more clouds than sun along with higher than normal rain chances. An earlier onset to the rain will also continue, so showers remain a good bet during the morning and afternoon.
By Thursday we'll start to notice a dip in our rain chances with the morning rain also becoming less likely. Look for more sunshine to mix in during the morning as well, but clouds will build during the afternoon along with several showers and storms. We'll keep the possibility of afternoon scattered storms in our forecast all the way through the upcoming weekend.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA WORKED THE CROWD IN LAS VEGAS LAST NIGHT -
BUT NOW HE PREPARES FOR THIS WEEK'S HIGH-PROFILE DEBATE WITH MITT ROMNEY.
BOTH SIDES ARE TRYING TO LOWER EXPECTATIONS.
BUT A NEW POLL OUT THIS MORNING -- SHOWS THAT WILL BE TOUGH FOR THE OBAMA FOLKS,
WHO ARE BATTLING HIGH EXPECTATIONS.
ABC'S TAHMAN BRADLEY REPORTS FROM WASHINGTON.
Return to index of stories...
President Obama and Mitt Romney start the week gearing up for a crucial
showdown on Wednesday at the first presidential debate in Denver.
At a rally last night in Las Vegas, President Obama tried to manage
expectations.
SOT Obama
"I KNOW FOLKS IN THE MEDIA ARE SPECULATING ALREADY ON WHO'S GOING TO HAVE
THE BEST ZINGERS. I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT. / NO, NO.
GOVERNOR ROMNEY, HE'S A GOOD DEBATER."
As both President Obama and Mitt Romney hunker down for intense practice,
the latest polls show Americans overwhelmingly think the debate and the
election are the President's to lose.
In a new ABC News/Washington Post poll out this morning, 63-percent of
registered voters expect President Obama to win the election.
That's his biggest lead so far when it comes to expectations.
But looking at actual support among likely voters, the race is much
closer. President Obama leads Mitt Romney by just two-points, 49- to 47-
percent.
That's why the debate could be the pivotal turning point the Romney campaign
is looking for.
Republican Governor Chris Christie predicted Romney would close the gap with
President Obama after a strong showing at Wednesday's debate.
SOT Chris Christie
"I HAVE ABSOLUTE CONFIDENCE THAT WHEN WE GET TO THURSDAY MORNING, GEORGE,
ALL OF YOU ARE GOING TO BE SHAKING YOUR HEAD, SAYING IT'S A BRAND NEW RACE,
WITH 33 DAYS TO GO."
President Obama is holding debate prep in Nevada working on keeping his
answers short and concise.
SOT Howard Dean
"THE PRESIDENT'S JUST GOT TO BE THE PRESIDENT. THIS IS A GUY WHO KILLED
OSAMA BIN LADEN. I THNK HE CAN PROBABLY STAND UP TO MITT ROMNEY. BUT HE'S
GOT TO RELAX."
Mitt Romney keeps hammering President Obama's foreign policy. In an op ed
in today's Wall Street Journal, Romney calls for a new Middle East strategy,
saying the Obama administration's has been at the mercy of events rather
than shaping them.
Tahman Bradley, ABC News, Washington.

BOTH SIDES ARE DOWNPLAYING EXPECTATATIONS. A SENIOR AIDE TO THE PRESIDENT SAYS ROMNEY WILL BE "PREPARED, DISCIPLINED, AGGRESSIVE."
