THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
"A quiet start, wet finish"
Even though the calendar says it's October, it looks like mother nature hasn't received the memo as we are stuck in a mid summers weather pattern, with heat and humidity to boot.
Our skies will start off relatively quiet, but it will be a warm and muggy morning with temperatures in the middle to upper 70s. The remnant moisture associated with a decaying front has retrograded back to the northwest as high pressure centered over the western Atlantic waters moves in across the peninsula.
This will keep skies mostly to partly sunny during the mornings with increasing cloud cover during the afternoon. Temperatures will rebound into the lower 90s with a few upper 80s along our coastal and beach locations. However with plenty of humidity, heat index values will approach the 100° mark.
With an easterly flow setting up across the state, a couple of isolated showers could pop as early as the lunchtime hour mainly across our inland communities. Scattered downpours and a few storms will likely fire up close to the urban corridor as the sea breeze stays close to home once again.
Once the rain activity fades and pushes into the Gulf, skies will go mostly clear and lows will drop into the mid to upper 70s.
Expect the same set up for your Saturday - morning sun with afternoon downpours, but by Sunday we'll more than likely see an increase in the clouds and an uptick in our shower and thunderstorm pattern as a cool front approaches from the northwest.
Dry high pressure looks to settle in across the state by early next week with more sunshine and less rain. While it won't bring us much of a cool down, it will bring some lower humidity by mid week, which will be more noticeable during the morning hours as lows drop into the low 70s with a few mid to upper 60s deep inland.
In the tropics, Nadine is finally history. Tropical Storm Oscar will be a short lived storm as it is forecasted to weaken and diminish as it runs into some drier air and strong upper level wind shear.

HE'S BECOME KNOWN AS THE SLEEP DOCTOR. DR. MICHAEL BREUS'S CREDENTIALS ARE IMPRESSIVE.
"I actually have a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and I'm board certified in clinical sleep disorders. I'm a practicing sleep specialist. I see sleep patients who have narcolepsy and insomnia."
AND HE'S WRITTEN A FEW BOOKS ON THE TOPIC. DR. BREUS KNOWS THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP.
"We now know that if you're not sleeping enough it has major effects, both emotionally, cognitively, in reaction time, you name it and especially now that kids are starting to go back to school we also know that if they're not sleeping well, they're not going to be studying well and not going to be performing well."
SO HOW MUCH SLEEP DO WE NEED?
"Everybody's sleep needs appear to be different so I'm a six and a half hour guy, have been my entire life but I've got patients who require 8 1/2 or 9 hours so it really just depends. What I tell people is if you can wake up within five minutes of your alarm going off you've probably found the right amount of sleep."
ROUTINE, HE SAYS, IS CRUCIAL. SO IS A DARK, COOL, QUIET ROOM. EVEN DOWN TO YOUR MATTRESS, PILLOW AND BEDDING.
"It's really a sleep system and if you don't have the right performance equipment you're not going to perform well."

How will NHL lockout impact the Kelly Cup champs' new season?
Jim Nathan:
Is Medstar debacle hurting public safety? How will new U.S. rules impact care?
Nathan:
We've had a wonderful, wonderful relationship with Lee County EMS. And, on the air transport it's gotten confusing. I think everybody is still waiting for the answers to what really happened but most importantly how do we go forward to make sure our community is appropriately serviced. In the meantime we have the rare examples or stories where there have been communications issue or delays but by in large it seems to still be working.
