530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WXWALL

Rain chances will start falling today, marking the onset of a drier stretch of weather across Southwest Florida. In addition to the lower rain chances, sunshine will be quite prevalent for the next several days, and we also expect a little dip in humidity later this week.

Even though rain chances will be a lot lower today compared to previous days, moisture will still be sufficient enough to spark a few hit-or-miss afternoon showers. Areal coverage of the rain will be close to 30%, and the cells that manage to develop won't be as strong. Aside from these isolated afternoon showers, we'll be in store for a nice mix of sun and clouds through our Tuesday with highs closing in on 90 degrees.

Our sky will become mostly clear and quiet tonight with temperatures cooling to the low to mid 70s for most of Southwest Florida.

Speaking of our overnight lows, this is one area where we'll see some pleasant changes thanks some less humid air that will settle in by Wednesday night. The drop in humidity will allow the air to cool more efficiently, which will produce some comfortable overnights and early mornings with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s by Thursday and Friday morning. Although the dip in humidity won't have much of an effect on our daytime temperatures, the drier air will make our afternoons more tolerable.

The dry air that's expected to move in through the second half of the week will also squash our rain chances from Wednesday through Friday, so even a stray shower will be hard to come by until Saturday or Sunday. Even then, rain chances will stay pretty low. Other than a few isolated showers Saturday and Sunday, we'll enjoy plentiful sunshine with highs in the upper 80s and lows in the low 70s. SANDUSKY SENTENCING-2 SHOT

GOOD MORNING THANKS FOR WAKING UP WITH ABC SEVEN.

TODAY IS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 9TH.

AND RIGHT NOW --

WE'RE LOOKING AT THE TOP STORY THIS MORNING.

A JUDGE IS EXPECTED TO SENTENCE JERRY SANDUSKY --

TO LIVE OUT THE REST OF HIS DAYS IN PRISON.

BUT LAST NIGHT SANDUSKY RELEASED AN UNAPOLOGETIC STATEMENT -- ACCUSING HIS VICTIMS OF LYING. AND TALKING ABOUT HIS OWN LOSS.

ABC'S T-J WINICK IS IN PENNSYLVANIA -- TO COVER THE SENTENCING Return to index of stories...

SANDUSKY SENTENCING-PKG

PKG SCRIPT:

JERRY SANDUSKY NOW REGRETS NOT TAKING THE STAND IN HIS OWN DEFENSE -- AFTER

BEING CONVICTED ON 45 OF 48 COUNTS OF CHILD SEX ABUSE AGAINST TEN BOYS.

SO FOR THE LAST THREE MONTHS, HE'S BEEN SPENDING HIS TIME IN JAIL WRITING A

STATEMENT HE PLANS TO READ TODAY.

LAST NIGHT, SANDUSKY ISSUED AN AUDIO STATEMENT WHICH RAN ON PENN STATE'S

STUDENT-RUN RADIO.

AUDIO BITE SANDUSKY

"They can take away my life, they could make me out as a monster, they could

treat me as a monster, but they can't take away my heart. In my heart, I

know I did not do these alleged disgusting acts."

AT 68 YEARS OLD, A LIFE SENTENCE IS ALMOST INEVITABLE.

STILL, JUDGE JOHN CLELAND HAS A WIDE RANGE OF POSSIBILITIES WHEN DECIDING ON

A SENTENCE.

THAT'S BECAUSE THE CRIMES THE FORMER FOOTBALL COACH WAS CONVICTED OF

OCCURRED OVER NEARLY 15 YEARS, DURING WHICH LAWS CHANGED AND MANDATORY

MINIMUMS WERE INCREASED.

HIS ATTORNEY, JOE AMENDOLA SAID SANDUSKY IS GOING TO FIGHT FOR A NEW TRIAL.

SOT AMENDOLA

"His morale has been amazingly upbeat. He's been working on his appeal. I

think he's very confident that he's going to get another shot at this."

IN ADDITION TO SANDUSKY SPEAKING, THE SENTENCING HEARING WILL INCLUDE

ARGUMENTS BY ATTORNEYS, POSSIBLE MESSAGES OF SUPPORT FROM SANDUSKY FRIENDS

AND FAMILY, AND IMPACT STATEMENTS BY AT LEAST TWO VICTIMS.

SOT ATTY KLEIN

"It's just a tragedy, compounded by the fact that we have a man who won't

come forward and show any contrition and any remorse."

STANDUP WINICK

Upon sentencing, Jerry Sandusky will undergo an extensive evaluation that

takes from several weeks to a few months. to determine which of the 25

state prisons he will likely spend the rest of his life in.

TJ Winick, ABC News, Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. Return to index of stories...
