SCRIPT:
ROUND TWO!
AND THIS TIME IT'S THE NUMBER TWOS TAKING CENTER STAGE.
WITH THE RACE TIGHTENING, THE SHOWDOWN BETWEEN VICE PRESIDENT BIDEN AND
CONGRESSMAN PAUL RYAN HAS TAKEN ON EVEN GREATER SIGNIFICANCE.
Biden SOT DE departure
I'm looking forward to it
Ryan SOT FL departure avail
I feel good about it.
MITT ROMNEY GAINED SOME MOMENTUM OUT OF LAST WEEK'S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE.
POLLS SHOW THE PRESIDENT STILL HAS A SLIGHT EDGE IN THE KEY BATTLEGROUND
STATES, BUT ROMNEY HAS CLOSED THE GAP.
THAT MAKES TONIGHT'S DEBATE A POTENTIALLY PIVOTAL MOMENT.
BOTH BIDEN AND RYAN ARE WELL VERSED IN POLICY ISSUES- AND VERY COMFORTABLE
GETTING INTO THE SPECIFICS.
BUT THEIR STYLES AND EXPERIENCE ON THIS TYPE OF STAGE COULDN'T BE MORE
DIFFERENT
THIS IS RYAN'S FIRST NATIONAL DEBATE AND ONE AIDE ADMITTED.THE CONGRESSMAN
'S NERVOUS.
YESTERDAY HE GAVE A PREVIEW OF HOW HE'LL GO AFTER BIDEN:
Ryan SOT
What he can't run from is President Obama's indefensible record. They are
just offering more of the same.
BIDEN'S EXPECTED TO BE AGGRESSIVE - MORE OFFENSE THAN DEFENSE.
HIS AIDES SAID THE VP WILL FIRE BACK AT WHAT HE'LL CALL RYAN'S "EXTREME
POSITIONS" ON CUTTING THE FEDERAL BUDGET AND REFORMING MEDICARE
IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ABC'S DIANE SAWYER, PRESIDENT OBAMA OFFERED
HIS ADVICE:
Obama SOT
I think Joe just needs to be Joe
Joe understands what it means to scrap and knows what it's like to see his
dad lose a job /And when that heart and that story comes out, he's
incredibly effective.
O/C CLOSE: TONIGHT'S DEBATE WILL COVER A WIDE RANGE OF ISSUES - DOMESTIC AND
FOREIGN POLICY. BIDEN AND RYAN WILL COME IN WELL PREPARED TO HIGHLIGHT
THEIR STRENGTHS.BUT JUST AS PREPARED TO EXPLOIT THEIR OPPONENT'S
WEAKNESSES.

AND ONE TOPIC SURE TO COME UP IN THE DEBATE -- JOBS.
TODAY UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS TOOK A DRAMATIC DIP,
FALLING TO A FOUR-YEAR LOW.
BUT NOT FOR THE REASONS YOU MIGHT THINK.
THE AGENCY BELIEVES IT"S BECAUSE ONE *LARGE STATE DID NOT FULLY PROCESS ITS END OF QUARTER CLAIMS.
THAT MEANS UNEMPLOYMENT NUMBERS COULD SHOOT BACK UP NEXT WEEK.

A WOMAN IS IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER CRASHING HER CAR INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND ENDING UP IN A CANAL.
TONIGHT, WE ARE HEARING FROM THE EMERGENCY WORKERS WHO HELPED RESCUE THAT WOMAN.
A-B-C SEVEN'S ALEX BOYER REPORTS.

Thick, invasive brazilian pepper trees, shielded this maroon hyundai sonata from first responders.
-batallion chief ryan lamb/EMS-"it was difficult to even see where the car had entered the canal b/c the brush was so thick in that area."
Once divers got to the submerged vehicle, the driver, gilian crosdale, had been in the water for 10 minutes.
-lamb-"once they had her at the surface we were able to put her on a backboard and begin recessutation measures at that time."
According to cape coral police, crosdale was traveling southbound on andalusia boulevard when the driver of a white toyota carolla pulled out in front of her. Crosdale hit the carolla on the passenger side, before driving through an empty lot and plunging into the canal.
-lamb-"she was found in cardiac arrest."
Pulling the car from the canal proved to be a challenge for tow truck driver shawn long.
-long-"we came out with chainsaws and axes. We keep that in our truck because you never know what you're going to run into.
Which is why fire fighters recommend drivers keep a "life hammer" in their glove box.
-lamb-"its something that will break out a window if your car get submerged in a canal."

WHAT THEY ARE EATING THAT COULD KILL THEM.

The nice comfortable humidity levels have arrived at Southwest Florida and they're here to stay for a few days. The official morning low of 69º in Fort Myers was the coolest morning since May 22 of this year.
Between a big ridge of High Pressure producing calm weather to our north and Tropical Depression #16 near the Bahamas, we're getting a northeast wind that will persist through the first half of the weekend, keeping rain chances near zero.
By the weekend, the wind will begin to turn more easterly and lose its northerly component. Once this happens, tropical moisture will start creeping back into Southwest Florida, which will increase our clouds and rain chances.
There may be an isolated shower in spots Sunday afternoon, but the better rain chance will be on Monday afternoon with the chance going to 30%.
After Monday, the atmosphere dries again and we'll be into mostly sunny days again.
