It was a beautiful day so we thought we'd come to the beach. Got to the beach and we noticed a little bit of smell and dead fish on the beach, so were probably thinking of moving to a beach that doesn't have this.'

Dead fish- littering sanibels tarpon bay and bowmans beach.

And they're prompting strong reactions.

Sot Vic

It smells fishy!'

Sot reed schueler, beachgoer

'It's disgusting'

The reason they're all washing up?

Sot Helen Johnson, beachgoer

' red tide'

The toxic algae bloom looming off our shores- is back in action.

For the past week- it's been dormant.

High winds forced the algae to retreat to the bottom of our waters to survive.

There- it can't reproduce because of a lack of light.

Meaning it also can't kill sea life.

Nat gulf

Its putting a kink in this family's day.

Sot Helen Johnson

We came to find and pick up shells/ but we didn't expect the dead fish.'

Fish- are also rolling in with the tide on Bonita beach.

Lee county parks and rec-

Sot Vicki little, lee county beach, parks and shorelines supervisor ' we'll monitor it, keep track of how long its been there, hope that Mother Nature does her job and washes the fish back out to sea.'

If she's doesn't after 24 hours-the county considers stepping in.

Money is set aside each year to so if needed.

Sot Vicki

'If its a safety hazard or there's a massive number of dead fish, we will do out part to remove the fish from our beach parks.'

Sanibel and Captiva- place their trust in Mother Nature.

Choosing not to remove Dead Sea creatures.

Sot Helen

' they should pick them up and get rid of them.'

Sot Vic

That kinda surprises me that Ina resort community they're not doing it.'

The stench- too much for this couple,

Forced to relocate to another beach.

A situation they hope- others don't also encounter

SotVic

WEATHER-WXWALL

NICE WEEKEND AHEAD

A weak front is still working down the Florida peninsula tonight and we will see partly cloudy and humid weather this evening. Chance for rain tonight is very low - but not zero. There could be a very isolated shower pop up after sunset. Most of the area will be pretty quiet tonight as temperatures drop slowly into the upper 70's. Tomorrow morning we will wake up to the lower 70's and a few clouds to start Saturday.

The weather by Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday will be mostly sunny and we will notice a drop in humidity. In fact, it should feel really nice both days with highs in the mid 80's. Overnight low temperatures will be very cool and comfortable by Sunday morning as you wake up to a nice 65 degree weather.

Mainly dry weather and cool mornings will continue next week on Monday and Tuesday. By the middle of next week we will start to see some periods of clouds and possibly a few showers drifting in from the east by Thursday.

Enjoy a nice weekend! Return to index of stories...
