530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WXWALL

Winds will be a factor in our forecast for the next several days, especially as Tropical Storm Sandy continues to organize and eventually skirts by Southeast Florida later this week.

Another influence we'll notice from Sandy is a little more moisture spreading our way from the east, and we'll start to notice this trend today. Even though we'll be on the much drier side of Sandy, enough moisture will get carried over from the Atlantic to spark some fast-moving spotty showers today through Friday. We're not expecting a wash out by any means, but just be prepared for a few splash and dash showers at any time during the day.

At this point, it still looks as though Southwest Florida will be just out of reach from the bulk Sandy's heavy rain, so for now, the forecast only calls for isolated rain until Sandy gets to our north and pulls down some drier air just in time for the weekend.

Through our Wednesday, look for a mixture of sun and clouds will the occasional potty showers. Winds will come in swiftly from the east again at 10-20 mph with some higher gusts. Temperatures will stay a few degrees below 90 through the afternoon.

Winds will be a little stronger Thursday. Wind direction will begin to veer from east to northeast, and we may see some gusts up to 30 mph.

The strongest wind gusts for us will likely come Friday as Sandy makes its closest approach to Southwest Florida, which should be somewhere between 300-400 miles to our east. Even at such a distance, winds will get rather blustery Friday as Sandy's wind field expands in size. Sustained winds should be close to 20-25, and wind gusts could get up to 35-40 mph at times.

As we head into the upcoming weekend, the breeze will still be rather stiff as the wind flow starts coming in from the north. This northerly component to the wind will help guide dry, cool, and stable air into Southwest Florida, making the weekend very pleasant in both the temperature and humidity departments. High temperatures through the weekend should only warm to the middle 80s, and low temperatures by Sunday morning will cool to the mid 60s.

By early next week, there's a good chance our high temperatures will only climb into the upper 70s while dip down into the 50s for the first time in several months. Return to index of stories...

RACE FOR WHITE HOUSE-PKG

The presidential candidates are storming battleground states in a final

sprint to Election Day.

The Romney campaign riding a wave of momentum, may have hit bit of a snag as

another Republican Senate candidate makes a controversial comment about

abortion.

Richard Mourdock was asked during a debate in Indiana whether abortion

should be allowed in cases of rape or incest.

Mourdock-SOT-

I BELIEVE THAT LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION./I THINK THAT EVEN WHEN IN THAT

HORRIBLE SITUATION OF RAPE THAT IT IS SOMETHING THAT GOD INTENDED TO HAPPEN.

Democrats pouncedquickly launching a web video painting Mourdock as extreme.

NATS ad-

MY FRIENDS, WE NEED SOME ZEALOTS IN THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.

And Democrats point out that Mitt Romney is supporting him.

Romney-SOT-

WILL YOU HELP ME ELECT THIS GUY?

The Romney campaign wasted little time distancing itself from Mourdock

saying, "Gov. Romney disagrees with Richard Mourdock's comments, and they do

not reflect his views."

Mourdock's remarks along with Missouri Republican Todd Akin comments back in

August about "legitimate rape" are not helpful as Romney tries to dent the

President's support among women.

NATS:

"OBAMA: I AM FIRED UP RIGHT NOW! ROMNEY: WE WANT YOU TO START VOTING RIGHT

NOW!

Overall, the race is tight. The daily ABC News/Washington Post

tracking poll shows Romney leading President Obama by one percentage point

49 to 48 percent. But look at this, without rounding up or downthe contest

is even closerthe candidates separated by just seven one hundredths of a

point.

O/C Close: BOTH CAMPAIGN ARE TRYING TO REACH THE FEW VOTERS WHO ARE STILL

As we head into the upcoming weekend, the breeze will still be rather stiff as the wind flow starts coming in from the north. This northerly component to the wind will help guide dry, cool, and stable air into Southwest Florida, making the weekend very pleasant in both the temperature and humidity departments. High temperatures through the weekend should only warm to the middle 80s, and low temperatures by Sunday morning will cool to the mid 60s.

By early next week, there's a good chance our high temperatures will only climb into the upper 70s while dip down into the 50s for the first time in several months. Return to index of stories...
