FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

As Hurricane Sandy churns off the coast of Florida it will continue to impact our local weather.

As of this morning, Sandy remains a category one hurricane with sustained winds of 85 mph as it continues on a northwesterly path across the Bahamas. As Sandy makes it's closest approach to Southwest Florida during the day, the most noticeable impact will be the winds. North and northwesterly winds will kick up between 20 to 30 mph with gusts close to 40 through the afternoon hours.

Our skies will stay mostly cloudy and will give way to a few passing showers from time to time. While most of the wet weather will be along the east coast of Florida, showers associated with Sandy could pinwheel across Southwest Florida at almost anytime of the day.

Tonight, breezy winds will continue under mostly cloudy skies with a few showers. Lows tonight will settle into the lower half of the 70s.

By Saturday, Hurricane Sandy will begin to pull away from the peninsula with it's eyes set on the eastern seaboard anywhere from the mid Atlantic to New England. Our weather will remain a bit on the breezy side, however the threat for any rain will diminish and the clouds will begin to thin out. Daytime highs over the weekend will be several degrees below normal as most locations will warm into the lower 80s.

A cold front currently located across the Mississippi Valley will pass through Southwest Florida on Monday bringing significant changes to our weather pattern. A much cooler and drier airmass will sink it's way down the state keeping daytime highs in the mid 70s and lows in the lower 50s by Tuesday, which means many of our inland and northern cool spots will plummet into the 40s. THE ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE -- IS POSSIBLE THROUGH POPULAR.*OR ELECTORAL VOTES.

THIS MORNING, THE CRUCIAL ELECTORAL MATH -- HAS ALL EYES FOCUSED ON OHIO.

ABC'S TAHMAN BRADLEY HAS THE LATEST. Return to index of stories...

YOUR VOICE, YOUR VOTE-PKG

The race for the White House is at a furious pace in one key swing state.

SOT - Romney at rally in Ohio

Romney: O-H

Crowd: IO!!!

Ohio.

With only eleven days left, the math shows whoever wins the Buckeye state

will almost certainly win the White House.

Challenger Mitt Romney leads nationally, according to the latest ABC

News/Washington Post tracking poll - 50 to 47 percent.

But President Obama maintains a slim advantage in Ohio. The latest poll has

him up by five.

The President, campaigning there last night, used a targeted message.

SOT Obama in Cleveland

"IF MITT ROMNEY HAD BEEN PRESIDENT WHEN THE AUTO INDUSTRY WAS ON THE VERGE

OF COLLAPSE, WE MIGHT NOT HAVE AN AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY TODAY. / THE AUTO

INDUSTRY SUPPORTS ONE IN EIGHT OHIO JOBS."

Romney, leading the President in polls on trust to handle the economy, is

fighting back.

SOT Romney in Worthington, Ohio

"MY PRIORITY IS JOBS. JOBS. JOBS. AND WE'RE GOING TO GET THEM HERE IN OHIO."

Both campaigns are trying to lock down their supporters and get them to the

polls now in Ohio and other states that have early voting.

Yesterday, the president stopped in Chicago to cast his vote.

In an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, first lady Michelle Obama joked about

the Obama camp's turnout efforts.

NATS - Michelle Obama

"UP, UP, UP. IT'S TIME TO VOTE. YOU CAN DO IT. GO AND VOTE."

As the campaign winds down, the race has taken a nasty turn.

President Obama, in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, joking about

children and the election, said "Kids have good instincts. They look

at the other guy and say, 'Well, that's a B.S.-er, I can tell you'."

A top Romney surrogate, former Governor John Sununu suggested in an

interview that former secretary of state Colin Powell endorsed President

Obama because he's black.

17-YEA- OLD AUSTIN SIGG MADE HIS FIRST COURT APPEARANCE THURSDAY.

INCLUDING MURDER AND KIDNAPPING.

AS ABC'S CLAYTON SANDELL REPORTS --

PROSECUTORS NOW SAY THEY HAVE OVERWHELMING EVIDENCE *AND A CONFESSION. Return to index of stories...

JESSICA RIDGEWAY CASE-PKG

Two mothers on opposite sides of the same nightmare came face-to-face

Thursday for the first time.

Sarah Ridgeway came to see the person police say killed her 10-year-old

daughter Jessica: Austin Sigg. Just a few feet away Austin's mother Mindy.

NATS - MARAVILLA / I DIDN'T SEE ANY EYE CONTACT.

Cameras and sketches were not allowed in court. ABC News producer Philip

Maravilla sat behind Jessica's family. They wore her favorite color purple.

SOT - PHILIP MARAVILLA / ABC NEWS PRODUCER / 4520- THEY SEEMED TO NOT HAVE

ANY ANIMOSITY TOWARD THE SIGG GROUP. /EDIT/ ON THE SIGG SIDE, I COULD HEAR

SOME WEEPING.

Prosecutors who say they will charge seventeen year old Sigg as an adult

dropped two bombshells.

SOT - PHILIP MARAVILLA / ABC NEWS PRODUCER / 5251 - THEY SAID THEY HAD A

CONFESSION BOTH IN THE RIDGEWAY CASE AND A CASE INVOLVING A JOGGER WHO WAS

ATTACKED BACK IN MAY. /EDIT/ 5210 - THE MOST COMPELLING THING THEY

SAID IS WE HAVE DNA EVIDENCE TYING HIM TO THESE CRIME SCENES AND JESSICA'S

BACKPACK.

Sigg has not entered a plea. His public defenders are now plotting his

legal strategy.

SOT - DANA COLE / CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY / THE DEFENSE ATTORNEYS WILL

POINT TO BOTH PROCEDURAL ERROR AND WILL TRY TO UNDERCUT THE RELIABILITY OF

DNA EVIDENCE.

Sigg's first court appearance came as investigators worked a second day at

his Westminter Colorado home. Sources tell ABC News human remains believed

to be Jessica's were found inside.

SOT - BRAD GARRETT - 21:52:50 AUSTIN FUNCTIONS ON A DIFFERENT REALITY,

PERHAPS, THAN THE REST OF US. THE IDEA THAT HE HAS PARTIAL REMAINS AT HIS

HOUSE MAY BE EXCITEMENT, MAY BE ADVENTURE, MAY BE SEXUAL.

Sigg was studying mortuary science at a community college where fellow

students say he made them uneasy.

SOT - JACQUELINE MILLER / CLASSMATE / 20:16:52 I THOUGHT THAT HE WAS VERY

INTELLIGENT, I JUST THOUGHT THAT HE HAD THAT PALE, THE DARK EYES, JUST THOSE

EYES I DON'T KNOW. I CAN'T EXPLAIN IT, IT'S CREEPY.

Sigg's parents are divorced. Overnight his father Rob spoke out for the

first time to the Ridgeway family and to his ex-wife who called police on

her own son.

"There are no words to express the sorrow that I and my family feel

for their pain they are suffering" his statement says. "I ask also for your

prayers and support for Austin's mother, whose courageous act unimaginably

painful for any parent has put this tragedy on the path to resolution."

FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR PUSH

NANNY STABS CHILDREN-CHANCE AT POP

NANNY STABS CHILDREN-PKG

HER JOB WAS TO PROTECT AND CARE FOR CHILDREN BUT TONIGHT, THIS NANNY, LEFT ON A STRETCHER AND POLICE BELIEVE SHE IS A KILLER AND TOOK A KITCHEN KNIFE AND STABBED TO DEATH TWO OF THE KIDS SHE LOOKED AFTER IN THIS UPPER WESTSIDE APARTMENT BUILDING AT 75TH OFF COLUMBUS AVENUE.

We've been here 30 to 40 years and we have never heard of anything like this in the building.

Unbelievable, just unbelievable. Just can't imagine how the parents must feel.

POLICE SAY THE MOTHER OF THE TWO VICTIMS CAME HOME WITH HER THIRD CHILD. A THREE YEAR OLD GIRL WHO HAD BEEN AT A SWIMMING LESSON AROUND 5:30 TONIGHT.

She is assuming that the nanny may have gone out with the children. She goes down to the lobby and asks the doorman if in fact they have gone out. He said no, She goes back up. The apartment is dark and she goes into the bathroom and that's when she discovers the bodies.

AFTER ENTERING HER DARK SECOND FLOOR APARTMENT SHE FOUND HER DAUGHTER AND SON STABBED TO DEATH IN THE BATHTUB. THEIR 50 YEAR-OLD NANNY WAS LAYING NEARBY, A KNIFE AT HER SIDE.

On the floor of the bathroom is the nanny who apparently had self inflicted wounds on her throat.

TONIGHT THE NANNY IS IN CRITICAL BUT STABLE CONDITION. POLICE COULD NOT IMMEDIATELY TELL HOW LONG SHE HAS WORKED FOR THE FAMILY OR IF SHE CAME FROM AN AGENCY. NEIGHBORS SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD OF ANY PROBLEMS AND THEY CAN'T BELIEVE THE KIDS WHO PLAYED IN THE HALL ARE NOW GONE.

The laundry room is down there so if you would go to do laundry you just see them running back and forth down the hallway. Return to index of stories...

Debating Amendment 8 -- "Religious Freedom''

Video Clip verbatim:

Lytle: So Church-sponsored schools are a part of this issue.

Towey: I think there will be a debate about whether there should be vouchers in schools, which the Supreme Court of the United States has said is constitutional. We also live in a democracy where the Legislature can make these decisions. Just throw them out if you don't like it.

Simon: Well the Florida Supreme Court has declared that public monies for church-run schools violates the Florida Constitution. There are two provisions on the Florida Constitution that are the basis for that, and Amendment 8 tries to repeal one of those. It reopens the door and leads the way.

Weekend anchor script:

A debate on Amendment 8 - "Religious Freedom'' - leads this week's "Naples Daily NewsMakers with Jeff Lytle'' program Sunday morning at 10 on ABC7.
