GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
TODAY IS SUNDAY, NOVERMBER 11TH.
ALSO VETERANS DAY-
I'M JOE ROETZ
BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY -
LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST KIRA MINER WITH OUR STORMWARN 7 FORECAST.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The cool and dry airmass that has stayed with Southwest Florida over the last several days continues to modify and temperatures will be on a gradual warming trend.
Lingering clouds overnight have kept our temperatures in check with most of us waking up to readings in the upper 50s to 60°. Across our inland cool spots there may be a couple of numbers in the mid 50s, but they will be few and far between.
High pressure centered across the Carolinas continues to slide up the eastern seaboard and out into the western Atlantic waters. This will be the main weather feature in our pattern over the next couple of days with a predominant easterly flow. Winds will be a bit breezy for our Veterans Day with gusts reaching near 25 mph as they come across the peninsula. Just like yesterday, these winds will carry over some low level moisture, so our skies won't be perfectly sunny as a mix of sun and clouds remains in the forecast. Temperatures during the afternoon will recover into the lower 80s, while rain prospects remain quite slim.
Tonight, a few patchy clouds will linger overhead and lows wont be quite as cool as they settle into the lower half of the 60s.
Partly sunny skies will stay with us for the start of the week with the approach of a very weak cold front from the northwest. This front won't have much a push and will more than likely wash out across the central part of the state with very little fanfare. This will leave Southwest Florida with near average temperatures in the low 80s.

THE BBC'S DIRECTOR GENERAL STEPS DOWN-
LESS THAN TWO MONTHS AFTER HE TOOK THE JOB.
HIS TENURE AT THE BROADCASTER HAS BEEN PLAGUED BY REVELATIONS ABOUT A STORY THAT NEVER AIRED AND ONE THAT DID.
MICHELLE KOSINSKI REPORTS FROM LONDON.
Return to index of stories...
The head of the British Broadcasting Corporation tonight ended a 2 decade long career there, like this:
"The honorable thing to do is to step down from the post of Director-General..
he was grilled by his company's own journalists.
NATS contentious
"people will have to answer for what they did"
This all started last month-- when a competitor aired a large-scale investigation about dozens, now possibly hundreds, of sex abuse allegations directed at Jimmy Savile, the wildly popular BBC presenter, now deceased.
It emerged, that the BBC had been investigating the same story-- but abruptly stopped it. Prompting new allegations-- against BBC management-- of a coverup.
Then, things went from bad to worse, when last week, the same BBC investigative program, Newsnight, aired a segment alleging that at least one top politician from the Margaret Thatcher era was now also being accused of abusing children.
The BBC didn't name him But when it surfaced on the internet-- the alleged victim realized he had accused the wrong man, and retracted part of his story.
BBC Newsnight-- also apologized.
This all has stunned the British public.
"We're into a new territory where i don't think people know what to believe anymore."

A SHOWDOWN IS BREWING BETWEEN THE PRESIDENT AND CONGRESS.
DRASTIC SPENDING CUTS AND TAX HIKES WILL KICK IN AT THE END OF THE YEAR IF THEY CAN'T REACH A DEAL.
PRESIDENT OBAMA ISSUED A WARNING AHEAD OF THE SO-CALLED FISCAL CLIFF.
"I refuse to accept any approach that isn't balanced. / On Tuesday night we found out that the majority of Americans agree with my approach."
THAT APPROACH MEANS MAKING THE WEALTHY PAY MORE IN TAXES-
SOMETHING REPUBLICAN HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER OPPOSES.
Return to index of stories...
Raising tax rates will slow down our ability to create the jobs that everyone says they want.
IF WASHINGTON FAILS TO REACH A DEAL-
DEFENSE AND DOMESTIC SPENDING WOULD SEE DRAMATIC CUTS-
AND THE AVERAGE AMERICAN HOUSEHOLD WOULD SEE TAX HIKES AROUND 35-HUNDRED DOLLARS NEXT YEAR.
BOTH SIDES SEEM TO AGREE -- AMENDING THE TAX CODE AND OVERHAULING ENTITLEMENT PROGRAMS ARE COMMON GROUND TO FIX FINANCES.

Surveillance cameras catch criminals in the act all the time, but rarely are they ever this young. This boy, who doesn't even appear to be 10-years-old, is caught committing a felony.
:11- 20
"I was just sad, sick to my stomach that a little kid could actually do something like that. That's just not right, you know?"
This video is from Sunday, just before closing time at 6:00 at a Pembroke Gardens nail salon. You can see the boy take a purse from a locker, then run around the corner to empty it out. He shoves $900 in his pocket - money the employee just got from cashing her paycheck the day before.
:38- 45
"She was just devastated. She worked so hard, and then to have your money taken in just a blink of an eye. It was just sad."
