Even before the sun came up--crews were up and in full force battling 40 foot piles of mulch still burning from the day before.
Take sound
Kevin Burress, Battalion Chief, San Carlos Fire
"It is quite common to have a fire like this where once it starts in the center it could've been burning like that for weeks and nobody would know until it breaks out."
By the plumes of smoke billowing from the piles of yard waste and vegetation, firefighters say it's clear it will take a few days to put out. But what's not clear--the smoke filled air that could be a problem for people who suffer from allergies or respiratory problems in the area.
Take sound
Larry Castillo, M.D., Allery & Asthma Care Centre
"It can irritate the lungs, it can irritate the sinuses and definitely if you have sinus trouble or asthma, COPD, you want to be careful."
Dr Larry Castillo says when the piles of bio waste burn, particles disperse into the air and become a respiratory irritant. He recommends people who suffer from respiratory priblems to stsy indoors. But not everyone is affected.
Take sound
Laurie Vandermade, Bicyclist
"The smell of it has come and gone as the wind blows so it hasn't been too bothersome."
Estimated at 50 feet wide and 300 feet long, it's bothersome for crews as they work around the click to put it out.

Kevin Burress
"We just keep it contained to the compound that its in and we'll be fine. We just don't want it to flare up and the embers start brush fires around it."

We've tried contacting the company, coastal grinding, a representative told us the company has done nothing wrong. DEP regulates companies like this and will be investigating how this fire started and got out of control

GOOD FOR HER THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT ON HOW LONG SHE CAN PARK IN THE CITY'S CENTER.
"There were no signs that said I couldn't park there all day long." Doreen Runge, Orlando
AND THAT'S THE PROBLEM ACCORDING TO SOME BUSINESS OWNERS. THEY CLAIM EMPLOYEES ARE PARKING ON THE STREET ALL DAY LONG FORCING CUSTOMERS TO LOOK FOR SPOTS ELSEWHERE.

NOW THEY'RE ASKING THE CITY COUNCIL TO LOOK AT THE ISSUE.

BONNIE BENANDE AT SEA GRAPE GALLERY, SAYS SHE'S PARKED ON THE STREET BEFORE. BUT NOT ANYMORE, SHE KNOWS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO SAVE THOSE SPOTS OUT FRONT.
"Because we do want to have that space available for potential customers." Bonnie Benande, Sea Grape Gallery
SHE DOESN'T THINK A TWO-HOUR TIME LIMIT OR PARKING METERS ARE THE ANSWER.
NEITHER DOES THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. IT SENT A LETTER TO BUSINESS OWNERS REMINDING THEM TO PARK IN THE GARAGE.
OTHERS DISAGREE.
"you get people who park for 6 or 7 hours at a time." Derek Ortel, Punta Gorda
DEREK ORTEL DRIVES THROUGH DOWNTOWN TO AND FROM WORK AND SAYS HE SEES CARS PARKED ON THE STREET FOR HOURS ON END.
"Well, making a two hour limit would be perfect I think in my eyes because it gives more people more chances to park through here" Derek Ortel, Punta Gorda
IF THE DOWNTOWN BUSINESSES CAN'T CURB THE ISSUE BY JANUARY, THE COUNCIL WILL CONSIDER PUTTING IN NEW REGULATIONS.

The skies were a bit bleak on Monday, and at times we even saw a passing shower.
Those same clouds will begin tapering off as we go into Tuesday, and that means our forecast will be singing a sweet melody about sunshine for this week.
There are two systems at play. They're currently giving us the depressive weather, and they must first move out before those sunny skies return. System number one is an area of high pressure positioned to our northeast. The winds flow clockwise around high pressures, so that helps pull Atlantic moisture into the region. System number two is a cold front stationed over north Florida, and it has a lot of moisture latched to it as well. The two are in-sync with one another. Thus, we had the clouds and light showers.
The cold front will track over the state of Florida Tuesday. In its wake - the dry, sunny skies!
In summary my forecast for Tuesday through Friday will have a medley of clouds and sun. No rainfall and daytime temperatures in the lower 80s. Mornings lows will remain in the 60s.
Saturday will be an interesting day.
A stronger, more robust cold front will enter the southeast. It has a great chance of elevating our rain chances for Saturday. The rest of the weekend will be dry, and the blue skies will dominate. Cooler weather will return, too, as mornings plummet to the 50s and afternoon highs struggle to get into the 70s!
