HELLO-1SHOT PUSH

GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

TODAY IS SATURDAY- NOVEMBER 17TH.

I'M JOE ROETZ.

BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY -

LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST KIRA MINER WITH OUR STORMWARN 7 FORECAST.

GOOD MORNING KIRA. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

We ended the week on a cloudy and cool note and it looks like our weekend will begin the same.

Low clouds will blanket the area once again this morning and temperatures will be rather cool as most spots will start the day in the upper 50s to low 60s. There may even be a little drizzle and mist mixed in as well. As we progress through the late morning, these clouds will begin to break up just enough for a few rays of sunshine to warm us into the middle and upper 70s.

The system responsible for the cloudier weather is a ripple of energy in the upper levels of the atmosphere that will continue to move across the state through the day. This will keep mostly cloudy skies across Southwest Florida with the opportunity for a stray shower or two at best with rain prospects near 20%.

Tonight, skies will partially clear and lows will fall into the low 60s along the urban corridor, while our inland and northern cool spots will see readings in the upper 50s.

As the atmosphere begins to dry out, our Sunday will be brighter and a little bit warmer as afternoon temperatures warm to 80° under partly sunny skies. Our weather early in the week will be nice and dry with a mix of sun and clouds with near normal temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s.

Current forecast models are trending toward a sunny Thanksgiving holiday with a cool start and a mild finish with low humidity. Return to index of stories...

MAIN WEATHER-WXWALL

ALCOHOL CALORIES-PKG

SCRIPT:

ON A TYPICAL DAY, ONE THIRD OF MEN AND EIGHTEEN PER CENT OF WOMEN CONSUME

CALORIES FROM ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

NOW A STUDY FROM THE NATIONAL HEALTH AND NUTRITION SURVEY FINDS THAT

AMERICAN ADULTS GET ALMOST AS MANY EMPTY CALORIES FROM ALCOHOL AS THEY DO

FROM SOFT DRINKS.

SODA AND OTHER SWEETENED BEVERAGES ARE ALREADY THE HEAVIES IN CAMPAIGNS

AGAINST OBESITY.

NEARLY TWENTY PER CENT OF MEN AND SIX PER CENT OF WOMEN TAKE IN ABOUT 300

CALORIES PER DAY FROM ALCOHOL.

THAT'S

- TWO OR MORE TWELVE-OUNCE BEERS

- MORE THAN TWO AND A HALF GLASSES OF WINE

- MORE THAN FOUR AND A HALF OUNCES OF LIQUOR

MEN TAKE IN MORE CALORIES FROM ALCOHOL THAN WOMEN -- AND YOUNGER ADULTS MORE

THAN OLDER ADULTS.

AND BEER IS THE BIGGEST SINGLE SOURCE OF ALCOHOLIC CALORIES IN MEN.

SO WHEN SOMEONE ASKS "WHO'S COUNTING?" -- REMEMBER TO KEEP TRACK OF

CALORIES, NOT JUST DRINKS.

WITH THIS MEDICAL MINUTE, I'M DOCTOR TIMOTHY JOHNSON. Return to index of stories...
