"I can't go to the store, watch tv, sleep, I can't see anything without thinking of him and how needless this tragedy was."
TODAY THE FAMILY OF AN 11-YEAR-OLD FORT MYERS BOY, KILLED BY A LIGHTNING STRIKE FILED A MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR LAWSUIT.
JESSE WATLINGTON DIED IN OCTOBER.
HE WAS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD AT SOUTHWEST FLORIDA CHRISTIAN ACADMEY.
THE LAWSUIT IS AGAINST THE SCHOOL AND MCGREGOR BAPTIST CHURCH.
ABC7'S MEAGHAN SMITH BREAKS DOWN THE LAWSUIT AND ITS CLAIMS THAT BOTH THE CHURCH AND SCHOOL CONTRIBUTED TO WATLINGTON'S DEATH.
Return to index of stories...
the watlington's say the church and school were negligent in keping their son safe, and they didn't do enough to prevent his death.
now- they're seeking millions.
11 year-old jesse watlington fought for his life after being struck by lightning-
but lost.
now, his parents are in the fight of their lives.
chuck 12:14 "my heart has been ripped out of my chest- my daughter, jesse, my wife and myself- before, we were one."
the watlington's stood with their attorney at a press conference today to announce they're suing mcgregor baptist church and southwest florida christian academy for the death of their son.
the lawsuit is for millions.
early october,
the child was running out onto the football field for practice- when a lightning bolt struck him in the heart.
jesse died days later at a tampa hospital.
since the tragedy-
there have been many different claims.
the day of the strike-
the pastor said the skies were clear, when a lightning bolt came out of nowhere.
the watlington's though say the skies were dark-
and the bolt that killed their son was the 3rd to strike in the area.
there's also the dispute of the lightning detection device-
the pastor previously told us the church has one and it was working, but wouldn't go into any other details.
the watlington's say it was stored in a closet.
jesse's family tells us the school doesn't have a defibrillator, and that it took the coaches 10 minutes to begin cpr because they didn't know how.
but a police report says that one coach ran to call 911- while 2 others began performing cpr on jesse.
we spoke with the pastor- he says he doesn't want to comment on the lawsuit, but that he and the church will continue to pray for a grieving family. In lee county, meaghan smith abc7.

GREAT WEATHER CONTINUES
It was an interesting day across Florida. Our part of the state was sunny and nice while clouds and cool temperatures prevailed to the north …. Orlando was only in the 60's and cloudy all day today! An area of low pressure in the Atlantic has kept a northerly wind flow over the state and, thankfully, the clouds and chilly temperatures did not make it here. Tonight, as the temperatures cool back into the 60's, we may pick up a few clouds drifting down from the north. Partly cloudy weather will start off Tuesday with a low in the mid 50's. Temperatures will recover to the upper 70's tomorrow and skies will be partly cloudy throughout the day. As we look ahead to the Thanksgiving holiday the weather pattern in our part of Florida still looks good. A few clouds are in the picture for Wednesday and mostly sunny weather comes back for Thursday and Friday. Daytime highs will be in the mid and upper 70's with over night lows in the mid 50's this week. It doesn't appear that we will be dealing with any significant weather this week and into the upcoming weekend.

IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, WHEN MANY OF US LOOSEN OUR BELTS AND PREPARE FOR AN OVER INDULGENCE OF COMFORT FOODS AND SWEET TREATS.
IT MAY SEEM IMPOSSIBLE, BUT YOU CAN SURVIVE THE HOLIDAYS WITHOUT PACKING ON A FEW EXTRA POUNDS.
COLLETTE WIELAND SHOWS US HOW.

"I don't indulge in too much of the sweets, but on Thanksgiving, I'm all about the turkey and the mashed potatoes."
HMMM. CAN'T YOU JUST IMAGINE THE SMELLS! THE TURKEY. SWEET POTATOES. GREEN BEANS. OHH AND THE DESSERTS.
"I'm stuck on sweets. You know, if it's sweet, I'll eat it."
JUST THE THOUGHT OF A THANKSGIVING FEAST IS ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR MOUTH WATER.
"Thanksgiving, you can eat, like a lot of food and you can have like, no regrets."
BUT CAN IT BE TRUE? NO REGRETS? EVEN IF YOUR FEAST PUTS YOU IN A "FOOD COMA?"
"It's not the one day that's the problem."
REGISTERED DIETITIAN VALERIE EDWARDS SAYS GO AHEAD! LIVE IT UP. INDULGE! JUST DON'T EAT LIKE THAT EVERY DAY FOR THE REST OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
"For a lot of people, it just becomes two months of overeating and that's where the problems occur with weight gain."
VALERIE SAYS SAVE THOSE EXTRA CALORIES FOR SPECIAL DAYS AND ON FOODS YOU REALLY LOVE. OH YEAH, AND DON'T FORGET TO EXERCISE EVEN IF YOUR FAMILY'S IN TOWN.
"I am definitely one to celebrate the holidays."
PERSONAL TRAINER DANIELLE NORWOOD SAYS THERE ARE EASY EXERCISES YOU CAN SNEAK IN EVEN WHILE YOU'RE COOKING, THAT WILL KEEP YOUR METABOLISM UP.
"This is actually perfect for what we call a goblet squat."
EXERCISES THAT WILL GET YOUR STOMACH READY FOR THE FEAST.
"We're pushing our hips back. We're driving our knees out and we're trying to get into our heels while having a flat back."
DANIELLE SAYS GET CREATIVE. USE A PUMPKIN OR CANNED FOODS AS WEIGHTS.
"Lift.squeeze."
GRAB A COUPLE OF PAPER PLATES.
. AND USE THEM AS "GLIDERS."
"You're driving your knees up towards your elbows."
JUST THINK. THE MORE CALORIES YOU BURN WORKING OUT.
"I would try to do these, about 15 each side."
. THE LESS GUILT YOU MIGHT FEEL WHEN YOU TAKE THAT SECOND HELPING OF PIE.
"A lot of whipped cream on top."

These mug shots may not look like the usual family portrait. BUT UNTIL THEY
WERE ARRESTED friends say Scott Catt, his 20 year old son Hayden and 18
year old daughter Abby seemed shockingly normal.
JERICHO KIZER, ROOMMATE: some of the greatest people ive ever met
LINDA NICHOLSON, FAMILY FRIEND: Its just.its just not them. Its just.not.
them.
Police say that's dad in a mask and son in a fake moustache--- robbing a
bank near Houston-while HIS daughter waits outside in the getaway car.
Detectives believe the trio has pulled off as many as seven bank heists in
two states.
JERICHO KIZER, ROOMMATE: " ITS kind of surreali didnt want to
believe it."
Abby's roommate visited her in jail this weekend.
JERICHO KIZER, ROOMMATE:
"If it were anybody else asking her to do that she would never. I think out
of loyalty she felt like she had to."
Abby and her brother grew up near Portland, Oregon. Both were honor
students-members of the swim team. Friends say their father worked hard
to support his kids after their mother died.
JERICHO KIZER, ROOMMATE: Scott was a great dad always, he always went to all
of her swim meets, all of her games.
And he was ALLEGEDLY there in the banks. Police say that's dad in a big
cowboy hat, Dad and son dressed as painters.
LINDA NICHOLSON, FAMILY FRIEND: They were brainwashed to do what theyre dad
needed and I guess he needed to rob a bank.
The family recently moved to Texas--leaving behind this still-vacant house
and a bankruptcy. They've only been charged in Texas and haven't entered
pleas/./ police NOW suspect the trio hit five banks before they ever left
Oregon.
JERICHO KIZER, ROOMMATE: I still love all of them to death but im mad that
he would get his kids involved..
APPARENTLY It's their creative costumes that finally put the family business
OUT of business. Detectives SAY THEY caught them on surveillance tape
buying those disguises at a Home Depot.
