530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WXWALL

Clouds will mix in with sunshine through our Wednesday, providing for a partly sunny sky, and at times, more clouds than sunshine.

Like yesterday, a few stray showers may develop during the afternoon, but the chance of getting hit by one of these showers still looks pretty slim.

With the extra cloud clover around today, temperatures should be a touch lower compared to previous days, but it's still going to be fairly warm for December standards. Most places should see daytime highs close to 80, most likely between 77-79°.

You'll also notice winds will continue to slacken today with wind speeds mostly between 5-10 mph out of the east.

Now, let's address the uptick in rain prospects coming our way. We all know rain has been pretty hard to come by lately across Southwest Florida , but the chance for at least a few isolated showers looks a little more promising than initially forecast earlier in the week.

The highest rain chances this week will likely come Thursday and Saturday. With that said, don't get too excited about the prospect of rain because rain probabilities will still be less than 50/50. We're talking about a jump from 10% rain chances to 30% rain chances, but hey, at least it's something.

By Thursday morning, a weak disturbance will swing across Southwest Florida, which should stir up the atmosphere enough to produce a few widely scattered showers. This means the showers will be hit-or-miss in nature, and not everyone gets wet. In fact, most of us should stay dry.

Once this system exits the area late Thursday, we'll dry out a little more Friday, and then it looks like a little more moisture from the Caribbean will build in Saturday, which should generate some more spotty showers Saturday afternoon.

Aside from these slightly higher rain prospects, our weather will stay pretty consistent in every other department. Temperatures will continue to run a few degrees above average, and sky conditions will stay partly cloudy through early next week. Return to index of stories...

FISCAL CLIFF-2 SHOT

THE COUNTDOWN CLOCK STANDS AT 27 DAYS --

IN THE BATTLE OVER HOW TO KEEP THE NATION FROM GOING OVER THAT "FISCAL CLIFF."

PRESIDENT OBAMA AND CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS -- ARE MAKING PLENTY OF SOUNDBITES.

BUT VERY LITTLE *PROGRESS IN FINDING A SOLUTION.

ABC'S TAHMAN BRADLEY REPORTS. Return to index of stories...

FISCAL CLIFF-PKG

PKG SCRIPT:

Democrats and Republicans remain light years apart.

Here's President Obama, in an interview with Bloomberg TV, describing House

Speaker John Boehner's plan to avoid the fiscal cliff.

SOT Obama

"UNFORTUNATELY, THE SPEAKER'S PROPOSAL RIGHT NOW IS STILL OUT OF BALANCE."

The Speaker's plan would raise 800-billion dollars in tax revenue, but does

so without raising tax rates for top income earners.

The President says that's unacceptable.

SOT Obama

"WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO SEE THE RATES ON THE TOP TWO-PERCENT GO UP. AND WE'

RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET A DEAL WITHOUT IT."

Republicans, like rising star Senator Marco Rubio, say raising taxes on the

wealthy is the wrong approach.

SOT Marco Rubio

"TAX INCREASES HE WANTS WOULD FAIL TO MAKE EVEN A SMALL DENT IN THE DEBT,

BUT WOULD HURT MIDDLE CLASS BUSINESSES AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK FOR THEM."

So that's the major hold up - taxes.

Republicans and Democrats - deeply divided.

SOT Sen. Mitch McConnell

"THERE'S NOTHING GOING ON PRIVATELY, THAT'S NOT GOING ON PUBLICLY."

Amidst the political posturing, there may actually be a chance for

compromise on Medicare.

President Obama says he's open to raising the age when seniors can

start receiving benefits from 65 to 67.

According to one study, that would help save almost six-billion-

dollars a year.

President Obama travels to the Business Roundtable today, where he'll

address CEOs of leading companies -- folks who are closely watching the

fiscal cliff drama.

STORMWARN FORECAST-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.Clouds will mix in with sunshine through our Wednesday, providing for a partly sunny sky, and at times, more clouds than sunshine.
