"More clouds than sun, a few spotty showers"
After a string of dry and sunny days, some minor changes are in the forecast over the next few days.
Through the early part of the day, we'll be watching an upper level disturbance sitting to our northwest in the northern Gulf of Mexico. With this weather system nearby and moving over head today, clouds will be on the increase with the chance for a few widely scattered showers.
Just like yesterday, mostly cloudy skies and a little bit of rain will keep our daytime highs capped in the upper 70s. It certainly won't be a washout by any means, but just be prepared for a few brief hit or miss showers this afternoon.
Tonight, as that disturbance begins to pull away to the east, clouds should begin to thin out with mainly dry weather in place. Overnight lows will settle into the lower 60s with one or two upper 50s on the thermometer across our northern cool spots.
The work week will end with a bit more sunshine and as a result, temperatures will rebound nicely into the lower 80s. Heading into the upcoming weekend, our skies will stay partly sunny with the opportunity to squeeze out a shower or two by Saturday.
Early next week, we'll be tracking another cold front sagging its way down the peninsula. At this time, forecast models are hinting at an increase in the cloud cover across our part of the state with the chance for some spotty showers.
Temperatures through the weekend and into early next week will run a few degrees above normal for this time of year. So even though the calendar says December, our weather is anything but winter like.

SOT: "Last Friday the house directly across the street, their cars were broken into."
SOT: Trish Routte, Crimestoppers Coordinator "We're seeing a spike, really throughout the county, but if you take a small section out of the San Carlos Park area, we've seen a tremendous increase in just the last month alone."
THAT SMALL AREA OF SAN CARLOS PARK HAS HAD 11 REPORTED CAR BREAK-INS IN ABOUT A MONTH.
THE VAST MAJORITY HAPPEN TO CARS THAT ARE UNLOCKED WITH VALUABLES LEFT INSIDE.
SOT: Trish "The residents are making it far too easy for the criminals, because all they have to do is go from house, jiggle the car handle, if it opens they get in, get what they want and go away."
TRISH ROUTTE WITH CRIMESTOPPERS SAYS THE FIX IS SIMPLE, TAKE YOUR VALUABLES INSIDE WITH YOU AND ALWAYS REMEMBER TO LOCK UP.
SOT: Joyce "I work too hard for what I have and it's not right for them to come out and take it."
I WAS TOLD CAR BREAK-INS CAN ALSO LEAD TO HOME INVASIONS WHEN THIEVES FIND YOUR GARAGE DOOR OPENER.

Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
Return to index of stories...

IF YOU FIND IT HARDER TO HEAR AT RESTAURANTS, YOU'RE NOT ALONE,
MANY ARE LOUDER THESE DAYS. AS LOUD AS A JACKHAMMER OR SUBWAY TRAIN.
MIKE TAIBBI TELLS US WHY MORE PLACES ARE CRANKING UP THE NOISE.
Return to index of stories...
It is not your daddy's restaurant business anymore. more hard surfaces and open kitchens, fewer tablecloths and curtains, less space between tables and less comfortable chairs.and all that noise!
This is A-Frame, in south L.A.one of the city's loudest.
Owner Roy Choi likes it that way.
"I WANT YOU TO FEEL LIKE YOU, LIKE, ALMOST, LIKE, STUMBLED INTO, LIKE, A HUG. AND THEN WE WRAPPED OURSELVES AROUND YOU."
But it makes conversation a challenge.
"IT'S NOT NORMAL FOR ME.I FEEL LIKE I'M RAISING MY VOICE."
"BUT YOU'RE NOT AT ALL."
Yeah, I was. it's loud here.
"ACCORDING TO THIS SOUND METER, IT'S ABOUT 90 DECIBELS, GIVE OR TAKE A COUPLE EITHER WAY. THINK LAWNMOWER. OR A BOEING 737 TAKING OFF FROM 100 FEET AWAY."
Given those comparative sound levels, diners are complaining about noise more than anything else except bad service.
Reviewers and restaurant rating sites are now listing noise levels.a
'mini crisis' to Bon Appetit's Andrew Knowlton.
"IT'S INFURIATING SITTING ACROSS.LITERALLY TWO FEET ACROSS FROM SOMEBODY, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO HEAR THEM."
.and restaurant architects like Ralph Gentile-- acknowledging the move to industrial chic design and rooms that feel alive-- are working not to eliminate noise.but to manipulate it.
".MAKING THE COLLECTION OF SOUNDS THAT APPEAR IN THE ROOM TO BE MORE OF A COLLAGE THAT'S PLEASING RATHER THAN A JUMBLE THAT'S NOT."
That's what John Paluski did with his new restaurant, Comal in Berkely's arts district.
"I WANTED THAT SOMEWHAT HOLY GRAIL OF BUZZY BUT CONVERSATIONAL, YOU KNOW."
Here there are sound-absorbing panels disguised as artwork.and duct-liner and unseen fabrics taking the bounce off hard surfaces.
"AND.THIS. YUP, THERE'S AN APP FOR IT. A COMPUTERIZED WAY TO CONTROL NOT JUST THE SOUND LEVEL IN DIFFERENT SECTIONS OF THE RESTAURANT, BUT TO CUSTOMIZE THE WAY THOSE SOUNDS ARE HEARD."
It's a barely noticeable matrix of microphones and speakers that collects the noises of a crowded restaurant and then washes it back out in kind of a soothing white-noise bath.
