It ended up being quite the rainy afternoon for most of us across Southwest Florida this Saturday. All it took was a little more tropical moisture, some afternoon heating, some sea breeze interactions, and then POP--we got a rather large round of showers going.
Look for the rain to fade this evening into tonight, leaving us with a partly cloudy sky and some patchy fog by early Sunday morning.
Sunday looks a bit drier than today, but we'll mention the potential for a few isolated showers during the afternoon. Otherwise, expect a nice supply of sunshine with highs aimed into the mid 80s.
It's a little surprising that last significant cool front that swept across Southwest Florida came on Thanksgiving weekend, and it appears we'll have to wait a while longer before the next substantial cool spell comes our way.
Believe it or not, as we look at some of the long-range forecast models, there's no sign of any cooler weather making it to Southwest Florida through the end of next week. In fact, the next cool front that will push into the Florida will run out of gas before making it here, so we'll keep seeing the warmer weather for the next several days.
Even though we're not expecting a cool down from this next front, we will get a little more moisture sent our way this upcoming week. As moisture build in from the Gulf of Mexico, we'll notice a couple changes. One, the air will start to feel pretty tropical for this time of year, leading to a significant spike in humidity levels. And two, we'll get a couple good opportunities for rain next week. It looks like we'll see the most promising rain chances Tuesday and Wednesday, so plan to pack the umbrellas!

IT'S NOT JUST A CHANCE TO CELEBRATE NEW BEGINNINGS --
BUT A MOMENT TO REUINTE WITH OLD FRIENDS, BROTHERS WITH A COMMON BOND.
We hadn't seen each other in a couple of years.
LITTLE DID VIETNAM VETERANS MIKE KELLY AND JIM JORDAN REALIZE THEY WOULD MEET UP AGAIN TOURING THE NEW CENTER.
THEY ARE JUST TWO OF NEARLY TWO-THOUSAND VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHO CAME HERE TODAY.
The facility is nice. I've been going here to the one on winkler for the last 10 years and this will save me from having to go to Bay Pines all the time up in St. Pete.
KELLY AND JORDAN ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING THEIR STRESS TESTS HERE INSTEAD.
I think there's a lot more space. It's a lot more modern.
THIS NEW FACILITY IS FOUR STORIES, 220-THOUSAND SQUARE FEET.
This facility was really built to accommodate the growing needs of the veteran population down here. It's four times larger than our Fort Myers facility which is really wonderful.
THE FORT MYERS LOCATION ALREADY SERVES ABOUT 30-THOUSAND PATIENTS.BUT WITH YOUNGER VETS COMING HOME, THAT NUMBER'S EXPECTED TO GO UP.
Those increase every year and eventually it may be our largest veteran population.
RIGHT NOW, VIETNAM VETERANS ARE THEIR LARGEST GROUP.
It's been a long time coming for a big facility like this.
THE CENTER WILL OPEN FOR PATIENTS DECEMBER 17TH.
IN CAPE CORAL KIM BROWN ABC7.

THE SUPREME COURT WILL TAKE UP CALIFORNIA'S PROPOSITION 8 LAW WHICH BANS

THE SUPREME COURT WILL DECIDE THE EXTENT -- IF ANY -- TO WHICH GOVERNMENT
CAN BAN SAME-SEX
MARRIAGE.
EARLY NEXT YEAR, IT WILL HEAR TWO CASES: ONE FROM CALIFORNIA, WHERE VOTERS
PASSED PROPOSITION EIGHT BANNING GAY MARRIAGE --AND ANOTHER CHALLENGING THE
DEFENSE OF MARRIAGE ACT -- A FEDERAL LAW THAT ALSO FORBIDS SAME-SEX
MATRIMONY.
BOTH SIDES WELCOMED THE COURT'S INTERVENTION.
MARK LENO, CALIFORNIA STATE SENATOR SOT - "WITHIN A YEAR OR SO. I'VE
VERY CONFIDENT WE'LL HAVE EQUAL MARRIAGE RIGHTS IN CALIFORNIA - HOPEFULLY
ACROSS THE COUNTRY!"
RANDY THOMASSON/SAVECALIFORNIA.COM SOT - "BUT THE US SUPREME COURT , I
EXPECT 4 OR 5 JUSTICES TO UPHOLD PROP 8, WHY, BECAUSE THE CONSTITUTION OF
THE UNITED STATES DOESN'T HAVE MARRIAGE IN IT, AND THE 10TH AMENDMENT SAYS
WHAT IS NOT IN THE FEDERAL POWERS BELONGS TO THE STATES."
AFTER PUBLICLY OPPOSING SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, PRESIDENT OBAMA VERY PUBLICLY
CHANGED HIS MIND, TELLING ABC'S ROBIN ROBERTS:
OBAMA NATS - I'VE JUST CONCLUDED THAT FOR ME PERSONALLY, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR
ME TO GO AHEAD AND AFFIRM THAT I THINK SAME-SEX COUPLES SHOULD BE ABLE TO
GET MARRIED.
OTHERS AGREED. ON ELECTION DAY, AFTER MANY DEFEATS AT THE BALLOT BOX, VOTERS
APPROVED SAME-SEX MARRIAGE REFERENDUMS IN MAINE, MARYLAND, AND WASHINGTON
STATE.
OPPONENTS SAY THE BEDROCK OF OUR CULTURE IS IN DANGER OF CRUMBLING.
SPRIGG SOT - THE FUNDAMENTAL REASON WHY MARRIAGE IS TREATED AS A PUBLIC
INSTITUTION RATHER THAN A PURELY PRIVATE RELATIONSHIP IS BECAUSE IT SERVES
THE INTEREST OF SOCIETY AND SERVES THE INTEREST OF CHILDREN."
THE SUPREME COURT IS EXPECTED TO DECIDE BOTH CASES BY JUNE.
