That calendar might tell us it's December, but it's going to feel like a late spring or early summer week across Southwest Florida with lots of warmth, humidity, and even a good chance for rain.
The big weather maker for us this week is a cold front that's expected to get caught up over Central Florida Tuesday and Wednesday. For Southwest Florida, a southerly wind will bring in lots of warmth and moisture ahead of this front, resulting in lots of cloudiness along with scattered showers and storms.
We'll even see the chance for a few passing showers today, but the best opportunities for rain this week will come Tuesday and Wednesday. The prime locations for rain today will be deep inland and across northern portions of the viewing area near Charlotte and Desoto County.
Aside from a few passing showers and a littler morning fog, today will be a warm and humid day with temperatures returning to the mid 80s during the afternoon. Humidity levels will also be very high, so you'll definitely be able to feel the moisture in the air for the next few days.
Our sky should stay partly sunny through today, and our winds will be a little stronger with gusts reaching 15-20 mph.
By Tuesday morning, enough moisture will flow in from the southwest to produce some showers and heavier downpours. As we progress through the day Tuesday, we'll even see a chance for some stronger thunderstorms as the atmosphere becomes more unstable. We'll need to watch the radar closely Tuesday for some of these storms that may becomes strong enough to produce high winds and heavy rain.
In fact, Tuesday will be a great day to put the NBC 2 Weather app to good use, giving you access to the only LIVE radar in Southwest Florida. If you don't already have this app on your iPhone or Andriod, just search "NBC2 Wx" in the app store. It's a great tool for tracking storms.
In addition to the chance of rain Tuesday, our sky will stay pretty cloudy, and we'll notice a stiff breeze from the south. Even with all the clouds around, temperatures will warm back into the 80s, but probably closer to low 80s instead of the mid 80s.
Wednesday looks to be another day with scattered rain and lots of clouds, but Thursday looks to be much nicer with more sunshine and a drop in humidity.
So once we get past a couple wet days this week, the end of the week into the upcoming weekend will be pretty quiet. Daytimes highs will be close to 80, and overnight lows will cool into the low 60s.
Have a great Monday!

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.That calendar might tell us it's December, but it's going to feel like a late spring or early summer week across Southwest Florida with lots of warmth, humidity, and even a good chance for rain.

President Obama is back on the road today peddling his plan to avoid the so-
called "fiscal cliff."
In Washington, Republicans and Democrats remain far from a deal.
But Sunday, a slight ray of hope as Mr. Obama and House Speaker Boehner
meeting face-to-face for the first time in nearly a month.
SOT Erskine Bowles
"ANY TIME YOU HAVE TWO GUYS IN THERE TANGO-ING, YOU GOTA CHANCE TO GET IT
DONE."
A source familiar with the meeting told ABC News, "I'd be little encouraged.
Not greatly encouraged - but a little."
Encouraged perhaps because Republicans may be ready to compromise on tax
hikes for the rich.
SOT Bob Corker
"THERE IS A GROWING GROUP OF FOLKS, THAT ARE LOOKING AT THIS AND REALIZING
THAT WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF CARDS AS IT RELATES TO THE TAX ISSUE."
Some GOP lawmakers say they're open to raising more tax revenue, especially
with Democrats putting on the table holding the top tax rate below 39.6
percent.
And the two parties seem to be moving closer on entitlements.
With one leading Democrat saying he's open to means testing for Medicare.
SOT Sen. Dick Durbin
"I DO BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE MEANS TESTING, AND THOSE OF US WITH HIGHER
INCOME IN RETIREMENT SHOULD PAY MORE. THAT COULD BE PART OF THE SOLUTION."
If Washington can't strike a deal by the end of the year, automatic spending
cuts will go into effect and every American will see a tax hike.
MOS George Atkins, Annapolis, MD Resident
"THERE'S GOING TO BE A LOT OF SUFFERING AMONG A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO DESERVE
OTHERWISE."
There's 22 days left before the cliff. But some lawmakers believe a deal is
needed this week with the President and Speaker Boehner hoping to win
approval by the end of the year.
