GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
TODAY IS SATURDAY DECEMBER 22ND
I'M JOE ROETZ
BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY - LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST KIRA MINER WITH OUR STORMWARN 7 FORECAST.
Return to index of stories...
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
The first day of winter ushered in some very chilly air across Southwest Florida making it feel just a bit more like the holidays.
If you're headed out the door early this morning to do some last minute shopping, make sure to have the jackets, sweaters and scarves as temperatures will be quite cold in the lower 40s here in town with 30s deep inland.
A dome of chilly high pressure will continue to control our weather promising us a dry Saturday with lots of sun. Even with wall to wall sunshine, afternoon highs will be well below the norm as they top out in the middle 60s with a cool breeze out of the north.
Tonight, mostly clear skies will prevail with overnight lows one or two points colder than this morning. Temperatures will plummet quickly into the low 40s along the urban corridor with patchy frost possible across our inland and northern areas as lows dip near 32°.
A few high clouds will drift across our skies on Sunday, but that will be the day we finally make it out of the 60s and jump into the lower 70s for highs. Our nice warming trend will continue all the way into the Christmas holiday with highs near 80° and lows in the upper 50s.
A few showers will sneak their way back into the forecast by Wednesday with a slight cool down which is in the works for Thursday.

AFTER SPEAKING WITH PARTY LEADERS FRIDAY AFTERNOON, PRESIDENT OBAMA CALLED ON CONGRESS TO QUICKLY COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO AVERT SOME END-OF-YEAR TAX HIKES ASSOCIATED WITH THE FISCAL CLIFF.
In the next few days I've asked leaders of Congress to work towards a package that prevents a tax hike on middle class Americans, protects unemployment insurance for 2 million Americans and lays the groundwork for further work on both and deficit reduction.
THE REMARKS CAME AFTER HOUSE SPEAKER JOHN BOEHNER FAILED TO MUSTER ENOUGH OF HIS PARTY'S SUPPORT TO BRING HIS "PLAN B" TO THE FLOOR. HIS PROPOSAL WOULD HAVE EFFECTIVELY RAISED TAXES ONLY ON THOSE AMERICANS MAKING MORE THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR.
We had a number of our members who just really didn't want to be perceived as having raised taxes.

"My mom was incredible."
FOR 30-YEAR-OLD JAIME WRIGHT, THE MEMORIES OF HER MOTHER ARE STILL FRESH. BUT SO IS THE HURT OVER HER DEATH.
THAT'S BECAUSE HER MOM, LOLLY, DIED JUST NINE MONTHS AGO AFTER LOSING HER BATTLE WITH OVARIAN CANCER.
"When it was clear that she wasn't going to make it, it felt to us like it just can't be over. She still has to be here some how.
SO THE FAMILY STARTED A NON-PROFIT IN THEIR MOTHER'S NAME.
"When my mom was sick, one of the first things she said was, am I going to lose my hair and I don't think that's unique to her."
THAT CONCERN OVER HAIR LOSS -- THE RESULT OF CHEMOTHERAPY -- PROMPTED LOLLY TO PURCHASE A WIG. A GOOD WIG, THAT LOOKED NATURAL. AND TO EVERYONE'S SURPRISE, THEY LEARNED JUST HOW EXPENSIVE THEY CAN BE. OFTEN COSTING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE.
"People should be able to look and feel like themselves when they have cancer."
AND THAT'S HOW LOLLY'S LOCKS CAME TO BE. AN ORGANIZATION BUILT UPON THE IDEA THAT WOMEN WITH CANCER WILL LIVE BETTER IF THEY FEEL CONFIDENT IN THEMSELVES.
SO TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL. THE GROUP DONATES WIGS TO CANCER PATIENTS WHO CAN 'T AFFORD THEM. WOMEN LIKE LORI CRAIG.SHE'S A MOTHER OF FIVE WHO'S BATTLING BREAST CANCER THAT'S SPREAD TO HER BRAIN.
"When I got this one, it was just a natural fit."
CRAIG SAYS SHE HAD PURCHASED AFFORDABLE WIGS FROM A BEAUTY SUPPLY STORE, BUT THEY NEVER FELT GOOD ON HER HEAD. AND.IT LOOKED OBVIOUS THAT HER HAIR WASN'T REAL.
BUT AFTER GETTING A WIG THROUGH LOLLY'S LOCKS, SHE WAS ABLE TO GO BACK TO WORK FEELING MORE CONFIDENT. EVEN THOUGH SHE'S STILL UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY.
"It was just phenomenal to have someone do something like this, especially because of the cost. With the cost, there's no way I would have been able to pay for a wig of this magnitude."

JAIME WRIGHT AND HER FAMILY HOPE MORE WOMEN WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE PROGRAM. NOT ONLY BECAUSE IT'S HELPING THEM LIVE BETTER, BUT IT'S ALSO KEEPING LOLLY'S MEMORY ALIVE.
