CLASSROOMS WHERE TEACHERS HAVE TO LOCK THE DOOR FROM THE OUTSIDE.
We're going to have to have some very very strong conversations about are we doing every thing we possibly can to secure our schools.
JANUARY 8TH, THE BOARD WILL MEET FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE CONNECTICUT TRAGEDY.
THEN, DOZIER PLANS TO PROPOSE LOOKING AT EXISTING SECURITY MEASURES AND CREATING NEW ONES.
LIKE A DISTRICT WIDE LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE.
We have tornado drills, we have fire drills, the one thing we don't have is a lock mode down drill. And that may be something that we are gong to have to put in our protocol.
A sheriff's deputy can be found at each high school and middle school in Lee County. Now, some board members want more for extra security.
THAT COULD ALSO MEAN MORE DEPUTIES AT ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
If we could have a school resource officer at every single school including our elementary schools I think that would be good.
BOARD MEMBER MARY FISCHER WANTS TO PROPOSE ADDING MORE COUNSELORS AND SOCIAL WORKERS.
AND ADDITIONAL STRANGER DANGER TRAINING FOR TEACHERS.
If there were enough of those people to look at kids and be able to identify problems early on and direct families with kids with issues to treatment I think that it would be money well spent.
ALL WAYS THEY HOPE WILL BETTER KEEP STUDENTS SAFE IN CLASS.

IT'S NOW OFFICIAL --
RUSSIAN PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN HAS SIGNED THAT BILL BANNING AMERICANS FROM RUSSIAN CHILDREN.

BUT THE BAN WILL HAVE A WIDESPREAD IMPACT HERE IN THE U-S.
DUNCAN GOLESTANI GOES IN-DEPTH FOR US TONIGHT.
Return to index of stories...
President Putin signed the bill less than 24 hours after receiving it from the Russian parliament.
The ban on Americans adopting Russian children will come into force on January first.
It's likely 46 children who were about to be adopted in the US will have to remain in Russia.
It's estimated there are more than 700-thousand children in Russia not living with their parents.
American families have been the biggest overseas adopters, taking in more than 60-thousand in the last two decades.
The bill is being seen as retaliation for recent US legislation designed to punish Russian human rights abusers.
"It's not surprising that there's political retribution, that there's a political tit for tat, that's not surprising, you know. But what's shocking is that they are using, that they're putting the well being of children at risk for the sake of political retribution. And that has to stop."
"The US state department says it is misguided to link the fate of children to unrelated political considerations.
