FIRST WEATHER-WXWALL

CHILLY SUNDAY ON TAP

A thick deck of clouds mixed with the occasional shower made for a gloomy Saturday. Thankfully we'll see an improvement in our weather as we go into the last Sunday of 2012.

The clouds and showers we dealt with on Saturday were associated with a weakening cold front. I expect the front to clear the area by Sunday morning, and that means we'll see added sunshine.

What else will the front usher into Southwest Florida? Cooler temperatures.

That's right. You heard me. Cooler temperatures. But we will not be contending with anything near freezing. It'll simply be cool and refreshing.

Morning lows on Sunday will range from 40 degrees in our colder spots to 52 degrees in our typical warm areas. There will be a few high clouds in the morning mixed with patchy fog early. The fog quickly erodes as high pressure builds in from our north. We'll see mostly sunny skies for the majority of Sunday as a result, but when we approach 5 PM we'll see cold weather clouds roll in off the Atlantic.

So our mostly sunny start will translate to a partly cloudy end to the day.

Oh, and highs will be in the mid 60s! Most of us will struggle to get passed 65 during the afternoon.

The winds will be gusty on Sunday, too. This will make our temperatures feel slightly cooler. It'll also make it a tough day to go golfing or hit the beach. Winds will come in from the Northeast from 10 to 20 knots. That means the seas will be choppy, and there is a small craft advisory being issued by the NWS.

Those breezy winds will begin to dimish we start the week. Temperatures will begin moderating as we start the new year as well. Afternoon temperatures will top out in the lower 80s by Wednesday. Our clouds will begin increasing as well, and we'll end the work week on a wet note as another cold front approaches on Thursday-Friday. Return to index of stories...
