AS SENATORS CONVENED IN A RARE SUNDAY SESSION, THEY HEARD THIS PRAYER FROM
THE SENATE CHAPLAIN:
sot
Barry Black
Senate Chaplain
". look with favor on our nation and save us from self-inflicted wounds."
THE CLOCK IS TICKING TOWARDS THE NEW YEAR'S EVE "MIDNIGHT HOUR" -- WHEN
TAX HIKES AND BUDGET CUTS SWOOP DOWN FROM THE FISCAL CLIFF.
THE TWO SENATE LEADERS-- DEMOCRAT HARRY REID AND REPUBLICAN MITCH McCONNELL
-- ARE WORKING ON A STOP-GAP BILL.
sot
Sen. Harry Reid
Majority Leader
"At some point in the negotiating process, it appears that there are things
that stop us from moving forward. I hope we're not there but we're getting
real close.
sot
Sen. Mitch McConnell
Minority Leader
"I wan't everyone to know I'm willi g to get tghis done, but I need a dance
partner."
sot Obama ex "Meet the Press"
". in the Senate we should go ahead and introduce legislation that would
make sure middle class taxes stay where they are and there should be an up
or down vote. Everybody should have a right to vote on that. If Republicans
don't like it, they can vote no."
THE LEGISLATION WOULD PREVENT A TAX INCREASE FOR ROUGHLY 98% OF AMERICAN
WORKERS.
EXTEND UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS THAT ARE SET TO EXPIRE FOR SOME TWO MILLION
PEOPLE.
AND PREVENT A HUGE CUT IN PAYMENTS TO MEDICARE DOCTORS.
sot Obama ex "Meet the Press"
". we should go ahead and introduce legislation that would make sure
middle class taxes stay where they are and there should be an up or down
vote."
EVEN IF THE TWO SIDES REACH A DEAL, IT WON'T NECESSARILY PASS CONGRESS BY
MONDAY NIGHT.
IF IT DOESN'T, VIRTUALLY EVERYBODY'S INCOME TAXES WILL GO UP. THE AVERAGE
FAMILY WOULD PAY AN EXTRA $3,446 MORE IN 2013.
AND FARM PROGRAMS WOULD EXPIRE, POTENTIALLY DOUBLING THE PRICE OF MILK.
AND IF CONGRESS DOESN'T PASS A NEW BILL?
sot Obama ex "Meet the Press"
".we'll come back with a new Congress on January 4th, and the first bill
that will be introduced on the floor will be to cut taxes on middle class
families."
THE BARGAINING CONTINUES TONIGHT.

a stop on the edge of the highway.

FULL WX
THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
THERMOMETERS RISING
Our last Sunday of 2012 was a chilly one. Morning lows in the 30s and 40s translated to highs only getting to 65 degrees. When you add the wind. It at times felt much cooler than the actual air temperature.
If you're not a fan of the cooler weather there is no need to worry. I expect our thermometers to begin rising this week.
The warming trend begins on Monday as our winds shift to the Northeast and eventually the Southeast. That's a warmer wind direction, and it spells lower 80s for us by Thursday. It also hints at an uptick in cloud cover. It'll be partly sunny for the days to come as those winds draw in the clouds sitting over the western Atlantic.
As for Monday in itself - I'm forecasting morning lows to be around 52 degrees. Still cool but not as cold as Sunday morning. From there it's nothing but sunshine mixed with a few clouds. Winds coming from the east plus the sun results in mid 70s for afternoon temperatures
All-in-all the first half of our week looks great, a large amount of sunshine and warm readings on the thermometers. However changes are looming as we head into 2013.
The clouds begin to lower and thicken on Thursday, and come Friday we are looking at a mostly cloudy sky with occasional showers. It doesn't clear up much on Saturday and Sunday. A thick blanket of clouds will still linger with a few stray showers.Temperatures will be held in the lower 70s this weekend due to the overcast conditions.

"that is seriously not even funny."
CHRISTMAS DAY, A MAN IN A SLED CAME DOWN A HILL AND FELL THROUGH THE THIN ICE OF JACKSON LAKE.
AND THEN ONE AFTER THE OTHER. THOSE WHO TRIED TO SAVE HIM. FELL INTO THE FREEZING WATER.
"It just turned it in to a total disaster. Just panic. People falling in, people trying to save him, then trying to save themselves."
"Give me the rope from under the seat, now!"
THAT'S THE VOICE OF MICHELLE'S HUSBAND, MICKEY.
"I undid the rope, I threw it out, it was a 25-foot rope, but it was about 7 feet short of getting to him. And at that point, we noticed that this guy didn't know how to swim. And we observed him go under three times."
"Call 911 right now!"
MORE PEOPLE WENT ON TO THAT FRAGILE ICE. INCLUDING CHILDREN.
THEN. ANOTHER ROPE ATTEMPT.
"He's got him."
ANOTHER ONE IN. AND THEN THE MAN WHO TRIES TO SAVE HIM, AS WELL.
INNER TUBES AND SLEDS. FINALLY.
"Get it! Come on, go!"
.A ROPE TO PULL THEM TO SHORE.
"In Southern California, it just doesn't get cold enough for anybody to be out on that ice. Um, they are very fortunate that everybody came out alive. It was very hard to watch."
THAT WAS ROBERT KOVACIK REPORTING.
A BATTALION CHIEF FROM THE SAN BERNADINO COUNTY FIRE DEPARTMENT SAYS ANY RESCUE ATTEMPT SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE FROM THE SHORE.
