FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

"Not as sunny, still warm"

After a pretty nice day on Thursday, our Friday promises to be a bit cloudier as a slow moving cool front makes its way across Southwest Florida.

Fog could be an issue once again this morning, however it should only be patchy in nature where skies have stayed clear through the overnight hours mainly for locations south of the Caloosahatchee River and across our inland locations. As this front stalls across our part of the state, more cloud than sun will remain in the forecast through the afternoon, with a few rays of sunshine from time to time. Despite the cloud cover, temperatures will rebound from the middle to upper 60s back into the upper 70s near 80°. There is a chance for a brief shower or two anytime during the day, however the vast majority of us will stay dry as we round out the week.

Tonight, mostly cloudy skies will remain overhead with the possibility of a passing shower. Typical overnight lows should be in the middle 50s for this time of year, and tonight's numbers will be several degrees above that as they settle into the middle 60s.

The first half of the weekend looks to be a bit sunnier as this front begins to retreat northward. That means the warm and humid weather will continue with highs in the low 80s. Sunday offers us our best rain chance as this front will get another push southbound with a few scattered showers during the late afternoon and carrying over into the evening hours. A lingering shower is not out of the question early Monday morning across our most southern locations with a clearing trend throughout the day. Don't expect much a cool down with this next front, as highs will stay near 80° with lows in the 60s. Return to index of stories...

TWO GOOD SAMARITANS HELPED SAVE HIS LIFE.

AND THEY HAPPEN TO BE HOMELESS.

JOHN LONDON HAS THE STORY. Return to index of stories...

HOMELESS HEROES-PKG

THE SURVEILLANCE CAMERA SHOWS WHAT HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS HUMAN INTERACTION THAT MADE THE DIFFERENCE FOR AN UNSUSPECTING BUSINESSMAN.

"Trying to rob him. The guy starts screaming for help, and at that time that's naturally, you know. instincts to help somebody."

JUST COMING OFF SIX MONTHS OF HOMELESSNESS, DAVID DOESN'T WANT HIS IDENTITY REVEALED. BUT HE DID NOT FLINCH AROUND TEN-THIRTY THIS MORNING WHEN HE SAW THIS PUMMELLING ON VINE A FEW STEPS SOUTH OF CENTRAL PARKWAY.

HE GOT BETWEEN THE ATTACKER AND THE BUSINESSMAN WHO WAS KNOCKED TO THE GROUND. A SECOND HOMELESS MAN ALSO RAN OVER TO HELP.

"It was a very intense, dramatic attack. The victim of this robbery was in grave danger."

THE SUSPECT POLICE ARRESTED IS AN IMPOSING SIX-FOOT-FOUR, 250 POUNDS, IDENTIFIED AS LOUIS STEVENSON. HE WAS NOT ARMED, ALTHOUGH THE TWO HOMELESS SAMARITANS HAD NO WAY OF KNOWING THAT. THEY FOUGHT OFF THE

ATTACKER, WHO GOT NOTHING AS HE RAN INTO AN ALLEY AND WAS CAUGHT MOMENTS LATER.

"And hopefully this story shows us that the stereotypes are wrong, that people are people and folks jump in when needed, homeless or not homeless."

FROM HIS TIE ON DOWN TONIGHT, DAVID MIGHT NOT APPEAR A HARD TIMES CANDIDATE, BUT LOOKS CAN DECEIVE.

"These clothes are actually donated to me from different churches and organizations like that to help me for the new years. Makes me feel

good, give me some dignity for the evening."

HE AND THE OTHER HOMELESS MAN HE DOES NOT KNOW HAVE ALREADY CLAIMED THE DIGNITY OF THE DAY. TWO MEN WHO REGULARLY RELY ON HELP FROM OTHERS JUST TO SURVIVE DELIVER THE KIND OF HELP EVERY ONE OF US WOULD WANT FOR OUR OWN SURVIVAL. CAPTAIN LEE, WHO COMMANDS THE DISTRICT, SAYS IT SPEAKS VOLUMES ABOUT THIS CITY.

DAVID TOLD ME HE'S FORTY-SIX, HOPING TO FIND EMPLOYMENT SOON, AND TONIGHT AT THE CORNER WHERE IT HAPPENED, HE, LIKE THE OTHER MAN, DOESN'T WANT ANY HERO ACCOLADES PINNED TO HIS LAPEL.

"I would just hope that if it happened to me, that someone would do the same thing for me."

IT IS PROBABLY AS GOOD OF A THOUGHT AS THERE IS AS HE HEADS INTO A NEW YEAR OF UNCERTAINTY AND HOPE. Return to index of stories...

FOR A FAMILY MAKING THE NATIONAL MEDIAN OF ABOUT 50-THOUSAND A YEAR.THAT'S ANOTHER THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TAXES.

Students were bused to a re-outfitted former middle school in a neighboring town 7 miles from their old school. the windows were decorated with snowflakes, some made by other students around the country.

Security was heavy.

SOT: lt. white WE DON'T WANT THEM TO THINK THIS IS A POLICE STATE. WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THIS IS A SCHOOL AND A SCHOOL FIRST. AND THAT'S A PLACE THEY ARE TO COME TO LEARN, ENJOY THEIR FRIENDS AND TO GROW UP. 13 05 31

the kids also found lots of things that were familiar. all their old desks, chairs, bookpacks and jackets.

lt. keith white. monroe police

SOT: WATCHING THEM GET OFF THE BUS, MOST OF THE KIDS WERE EXCITED. THEY'D SEEN FRIENDS THEY HADN'T SEEN IN A WHILE/ AND YOU COULD SEE THE TEACHERS HAD THE SAME RESPONSE.

An emotional time, too for parents like Andrew Paley, the father of 9-year old twin boys. who spent the morning with them at school.

SOT: WHEN I WAS SAYING GOODBYE TO THEM YOU COULD KIND OF TELL THEY KNEW I HAD TO LEAVE BUT THEY DIDN'T WANT ME TO NECESSARILY.

The family has been nearly inseparable for the three weeks since the tragic shooting.

Paley says without school and THE BOYS' routine.its been hard, especially at night.

SOT: THEY USED TO BE ABLE TO SLEEP WITHOUT THE LIGHT ON AND NOW THEY NEED THAT LIGHT ON AT LEAST FOR NOW.

But today the kids got what they've been asking for -- a return to school.

NAT SOT:

They also got to see some furry friends.seven therapy dogs from Chicago that had comforted the community early on. spent time at the school today.

The families were also reminded that there's a whole community embracing them.

SOT: EILEEN BYRNES, SANDY HOOK RESIDENT 12:55:16

I THINK WE STILL HAVE A LONG WAYS TO GO AND ITS A ROAD I'M NOT SURE ANY OF US KNOW HOW TO WALK. BUT WE WILL WALK IT AND WE'RE STRONG. Return to index of stories...

SOT: Christian Van Aller "it looked pretty frozen so we got here"

BUT WHEN CHRISTIAN VAN ALLER AND ALEX ORTON STEPPED ON THE ICE. THEY

HEARD CRACKING AND RUSHED TO THE TREE

SOT: Christian Van Aller

trying to hurry and get across and that's when it really sunk in and broke"

EACH HAD A SHOE STUCK IN THE ICE THEY HAD TO COVER THEIR FREEZING FEET WITH

THEIR HATS TO STAY WARM.

FORECAST-WX WALL
