when I think of a white Christmas this is what I like
IT LOOKS NORMAL NOW, BUT JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO, MOST OF NEWTON BEACH PARK WAS GONE.
we're all concerned in our condos everybody we talk to is concerned
NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHY PARTS OF FORT MYERS BEACH, LIKE NEWTON BEACH, FARE WORSE DURING STORMS--
the big question is why that sand is moving around
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES COORDINATOR KEITH LAAKKONEN SAYS THE COASTLINE IS CHANGING ENOUGH-- THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME, A ENGINEERING FIRM IS NEEDED TO HELP CLEAR UP THAT UNCERTAINTY.
this study is going to give us the basic playbook of where that sand is and how the coastline is reacting to these changes over time
THEY'LL MEASURE UNDERWATER DEPTHS, CHART WIND AND WAVES, AND STUDY AERIALS--TO FIGURE OUT HOW SAND SHIFTS.
Nats this sand is some of the finest
HE SAYS THE SOLUTIONS COULD SAVE THE TOWN MONEY. HELPING THEM CREATE A PLAN TO PREVENT EROSION BEFORE IT STARTS.
we love the beach why shouldn't we help make it better

RECORD HEAT IN SOUTHWEST FLORIDA
We hit 88 degrees at Page Field in Fort Myers today … and that sets a new record high temperature for this date. The old record was set back in 1974 and was 85 degrees. It's also interesting to note that the warmest daytime high temperature in the month of January ever recorded at Page Field is 88 degrees. So, today's record ties the all-time January high temperature as well.
The forecast tonight is for quiet and mild weather. Skies will be partly cloudy and, unlike last night, there are no showers on the radar this evening. Temperatures tonight will dip below 70 and land in the upper 60's by tomorrow morning. As a side note: the average low for this time of year is 54 and the average high is 74. We are obviously predicting weather much warmer than that!
A large area of high pressure is anchored in the Atlantic and will continue to deliver warm southeasterly winds across the area. Under partly cloudy skies we will be back in the mid to upper 80's by tomorrow afternoon. In fact, we may tie or set another record high again tomorrow.
The long-range computer forecast guidance doesn't look very promising for rain. Only the errant shower could pop up in the afternoon as the humidity and heat continue through the rest of the week. The weekend outlook looks great for a trip to the beach with high temperatures still getting into the 80's each day.

THE WARM WEATHER IS *NOT* A GOOD SIGN FOR FLORIDA'S CITRUS GROWERS.
IN FACT, IT'S CAUSING SOME TREES TO BLOSSOM TOO SOON.
THE EARLY BLOOM COULD AFFECT THE FUTURE OF FLORIDA'S CASH CROP.
TREES USUALLY DON'T BLOOM UNTIL MARCH.
THE CONCERN IS IF WE DO EXPERIENCE A FREEZE IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. THE BLOSSOMS THAT EVENTUALLY TURN INTO ORANGES.WILL DIE.
THAT COULD IMPACT THE ORANGE CROP NEXT YEAR.

WHAT DAVID MCNEAL WITNESSED-
2:36 "next thing you know- i see a guy take a lady's purse."
A VIOLENT CRIME-
RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIS EYES AS HE DROVE DOWN PALM BEACH BOULEVARD AT 10:45 IN THE MORNING.
A WOMAN, JUST WALKING DOWN THE SIDE-WALK-
IS ROBBED OF HER PURSE.
THE CROOK SNATCHED IT FROM HER ARM AND TOOK OFF ON HIS BICYCLE.
2:42 "she fell to the ground- she grabbed her shoulder- dusted herself off."
INSTEAD OF JUST CALLING THE COPS-
DAVID DECIDED HE WASN'T GOING TO LET THE BAD GUY GET AWAY.
HE QUICKLY TURNED OFF PALM BEACH AND BEGAN CHASING HIM IN HIS CAR.
2:56 "and sure enough- he was coming my way."
HE PARKED-
AND GOT OUT OF HIS CAR-
COMING FACE TO FACE WITH THE ROBBER.
standup "as the suspect was trying to get away down tice street- he accidentally peddled right into a power pole. at that point- the good samaritan was able to hold him down until deputies arrived."
3:01 "i grabbed him- threw him off the bike."
THE SUSPECTED ROBBER-
HOMELESS MAN DOMINIC GRIFFITHS,
REPORTEDLY TRIED TAKING OFF-
AND EVEN APOLOGIZED.
3:07 "he tried to run- told me let me go, let me go and i said no man- you just robbed a lady and i saw everything and i'm going to hold you until the cops get here."
LEE COUNTY DEPUTIES ARRIVED AND ARRESTED GRIFFITHS FOR ROBBERY.
3:17 "i took his belt off his waist and tied his hands behind his back and made him sit there until the other police got here."
DEPUTIES DON'T RECOMMEND CITIZENS TAKING THE LAN INTO THEIR OWN HAND,
BUT ADMIT-
IT DID WORK OUT WELL IN THIS CASE.
15:08 "we're very fortunate that this individual did step it up and basically held this person"
AND AS FOR DAVID-
WHO'D A FORMER BOOT CAMP INSTRUCTOR-
HE'S JUST GLAD HE WAS AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME.
