GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.
TODAY IS SATURDAY JANUARY 19TH.

KIRA GOOD MORNING.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.
We finally got that much awaited cool down across Southwest Florida, but don't get too used to it as our very brief cold spell comes to an end starting today.
Clouds have blanketed our skies overnight and into the predawn hours preventing our temperatures from bottoming out too much. So instead of widespread middle and upper 40s, many of us will wake with readings in the upper 50s near 60°.
High pressure across the Carolinas will keep a breezy east and northeasterly wind flow in place through the afternoon. This in combination with a stalled front to our south means more clouds than sun for our Saturday forecast along with daytime highs rebounding into the middle to upper 70s. As some of this moisture from the Atlantic sweeps across the peninsula, a stray sprinkle or shower can't be ruled out during the day, however it looks like the vast majority of the area will end up being dry with rain prospects less than 20%.
Tonight, our skies will stay partly to mostly cloudy and lows won't be nearly as cool as the slip into the lower 60s with a few upper 50s across our inland and northern communities.
By the second half of the weekend, models are hinting at a bit more sunshine across our part of the state, with partly sunny skies and afternoon temperatures close to 80°. A mainly dry weather pattern will stay in place for the start of the work week with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Another cold front will slide down the state by Monday and Tuesday followed by a strong area of cool high pressure. This will drop our overnight lows into the upper 40s beginning Wednesday morning with highs in lower 70s through the middle of next week under mostly sunny skies.

ON MONDAY - PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA WILL BE SWORN IN FOR HIS SECOND TERM.
SMALLER CROWDS ARE INEVITABLE FOR A SECOND INAUGURATION, AS THE GLOW OF A NEWLY ELECTED PRESIDENT FADES.
AND WHILE IT MAY NOT BE AS OVER THE TOP AS IT WAS FOUR YEARS AGO, THERE WILL STILL BE A PARTY THIS WEEKEND IN WASHINGTON.

HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS WILL PACK THE NATIONAL MALL ON MONDAYEAGER TO WITNESS

AND SURE, PRESIDENT OBAMA'S SUPPORTERS WILL BE ENTHUSIASTICBUT THE MOOD ON

THAT.
WHILE THE NATION IS NOT TEETERING ON THE BRINK LIKE IT WAS IN JANUARY 2009.
THE PRESIDENT IS STILL STRUGGLING WITH A SLOW ECONOMY, HIGH UNEMPLOYMENT AND
VOTERS' LACK OF TRUST AND CONFIDENCE IN WASHINGTON.
We are poised for a good year -- if we make smart decisions, sound
investments, and as long as Washington politics don't get in the way of
America's progress.
BEFORE THE HARD WORK OF THE SECOND TERM BEGINS, THE OBAMAS WILL SQUEEZE IN A
LITTLE BIT OF FUN.
IN 2009, THE PRESIDENT AND FIRST LADY HAD A WHIRLWIND NIGHT ON THE TOWN - 10
INAUGURAL BALLS!
THIS YEAR, THERE ARE JUST TWO OFFICIAL BALLS.ONE IS EXPECTED TO DRAW MORE
THAN 35-THOUSAND WHO WILL GROOVE TO THE SOUNDS OF KATY PERRYSMOKEY

I like a good party.
BUT IT COULD BE AN EARLY NIGHT IN. THE PRESIDENT'S GOT A JOB TO DO THE
NEXT DAY.
It's been a busy and productive four years, and I expect the same from the
next four years.

GIFT CARD RULES CHANGED IN RECENT YEARS.
"The very first thing I would say is to be mindful of the expiration date."
PAMELA BANKS IS SENIOR POLICY COUNSEL FOR CONSUMERS UNION. THE PUBLISHER OF CONSUMER REPORTS MAGAZINE.
THE GOOD NEWS IS FEDERAL RULES REQUIRE MONEY ON A GIFT CARD TO BE GOOD FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS FROM THE DATE THE CARD WAS PURCHASED.
"I do often forget about them but eventually I find them somewhere in my wallet."
BUT BEWARE. IF YOU HANG ON TO YOUR GIFT CARD FOR MORE THAN A YEAR. THE VALUE MAY START SLIPPING AWAY.
"If you don't use your card for 12 months you could be accessed monthly fee that eats away the value of the card."
REMEMBER - TREAT YOUR GIFT CARD LIKE CASH AND KEEP IT SAFE.
IF YOU LOSE IT OR IT'S STOLEN. YOU MAY BE CHARGED A FEE TO REPLACE IT.
THAT'S IF THE STORE AGREES TO REPLACE A GIFT CARD AT ALL.
IT'S ALSO UP TO A STORE'S POLICY WHETHER YOU CAN COMBINE GIFT CARDS.
"Most stores want your business so they'll try to work with you."
RETAIL GIFT CARDS CAN ONLY BE USED AT THE THE RETAILER OR RESTAURANT NAMED ON THE CARD.
BANK GIFT CARDS CAN BE USED WHEREVER THE BRAND IS ACCEPTED.
IT'S IMPORTANT TO KNOW THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BANK GIFT CARDS AND PRE-PAID BANK RELOADABLE CARDS.
PRE-PAID BANK CARDS DO NOT FALL UNDER THE GIFT CARD RULES. SO YOU MAY BE HIT WITH MORE FEES.
"There are some protections in federal law for prepaid cards but certainly the best protection come with respect to credit cards."
NOT HAPPY WITH THE GIFT CARDS YOU RECEIVED? CONSUMERS REPORTS SAYS CONSIDER EXCHANGING THEM OR EVEN SELLING THEM ON LINE. YOU CAN DO THAT AT SEVERAL WEBSITES LIKE CARD-POOL-DOT-COM. GIFT-CARD-RESCUE-DOT COM. AND MOSTER-GIFT-CARD-DOT COM.
GIFT CARDS: A GREAT WAY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF POST HOLIDAY SALES WITHOUT HITTING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT.

MYSELF. NO WORRIES, BUT ON MONDAY THIS SPOT, NEAR THE U.S. CAPITOL --WILL
LOOK LIKE IT DID FOUR YEARS AGO - BE FILLED TO THE BRIM. WITH FOLKS WHO'VE
FLOWN IN FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.
THERE'S A DANGER ZONE --IF SOMEONE SNEEZES, THOSE DROPLETS CAN SPREAD 6 FEET
-- IN A PACKED CROWD, MORE THAN A DOZEN PEOPLE COULD BE IN HARMS WAY.
AND THE RISK IS THE GREATEST FROM THE SMALLEST AMONG US - A CHILD'S SNEEZE
CAN SPREAD MILLIONS OF VIRUS PARTICLES TEN TIMES MORE THAN AN ADULT BECAUSE
ADULTS HAVE A MORE DEVELOPED IMMUNE SYSTEM.
SO DOCTORS SAY - TAKE COMMON SENSE PRECAUTIONS. GET THE FLU SHOT, WASH YOU
HANDS. AND JUST AS IMPORTANT.
DR. BRUNO PETINAUX/ER PHYSICIAN SOT - IF SOMEONE HAS THE FLU, THEY ARE
PROBABLY BEST OFF STAYING AT HOME BECAUSE THEY MIGHT BE SICK AND THEY MAY
NOT FEEL WELL AND PROBABLY THE BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE WOULD BE ON THE COUCH
IN THAT CASE.
YOU'LL FEEL BETTER.AND SO WILL EVERYONE ELSE.

FOR MIDDLE-AGED WOMEN, KNEE PAIN IS A COMMON COMPLAINT.
WITH SOME TIPS FOR TREATING HERE IS ELIZABETH COHEN WITH THE DETAILS.
Return to index of stories...
WOMEN WITH KNEE PAIN KNOW HOW MISERABLE AND DEBILITATING IT CAN TRULY BE.
When women are younger, they tend to get more tendonitis or irritation issues around the knee and then as they age, especially when they accumulate previous injuries, it may lead to arthritis and further changes.
THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF RHEUMATOLOGY SAYS NEARLY TWO-THIRDS OF WOMEN AGES FIFTY AND OLDER HAVE SOME DEGREE OF KNEE PAIN - IT MAY COME AND GO, OR STICK AROUND.
OSTEOARTHRITIS IS OFTEN TO BLAME.
women are more at risk for arthritis than men are, and specifically, when women go through menopause, we think that estrogen may have some protective effect on cartilage of the knee.
BUT SOMETIMES THE PAIN IS DUE TO OVER-USE INJURIES.
SO HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE BEST TREATMENT IS?
SEE YOUR PRIMARY DOCTOR TO START DETERMINING THE CAUSE.
HE OR SHE MAY NEED TO SEND YOU TO A SPECIALIST.
DISCUSS OPTIONS LIKE ACETOMINOPHEN OR ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICATIONS WITH YOUR DOCTOR.
-ALSO DON'T FORGET TO USE EXERCISE AS MEDICINE.
DO EXERCISES THAT STRENGTHEN THE MUSCLES AROUND THE KNEE.
YOU MAY ALSO NEED PHYSICAL THERAPY.
AVOID HIGH-IMPACT EXERCISES, INSTEAD, FOCUS ON LOW-IMPACT ONES.
KEEP IN MIND- WEIGHT IS ALSO A LEADING CAUSE OF KNEE PAIN.
