THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.'
It's been a lovely few days across Southwest Florida with cool mornings and mild afternoons. Our stretch of beautiful weather will continue through the weekend, with just a few changes coming down the pike by late next week.
As temperatures have cooled into the lower to middle 50s, a few areas of fog will be possible as we get our Saturday going. Otherwise, a few 40s will be felt across our inland and northern communities so it will be another sweater and jacket kind of morning. Brilliant sunshine will fill our skies through the late morning hours and that will eventually melt the chill away as afternoon temperatures are destined for the upper 70s. The cooler spots will be our beach and coastal locations due to the developing seabreeze off the chilly waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
A weak front stretched out across the panhandle will kick up some clouds to our north, while an easterly wind drags in just a few fair weather clouds across our part of the state keeping our skies mostly sunny. Heading into the evening hours, mostly clear skies will prevail and overnight temperatures will dip into the middle 50s with the potential for some morning fog early Sunday.
High pressure should remain in control of our weather Sunday and into early next week with a mainly dry pattern and partly sunny skies. Each day we'll tack on one or two more degrees to the afternoon highs with lower to middle 80s back in the forecast, while overnight lows return to the lower and middle 60s by mid week. You will also notice an increase in the humidity ahead of a cold front, which will cloud up our skies by Thursday with the chance for a few showers and cooler weather by next Friday.

Naples police department dash cam video shows a woman undergoing a dui investigation after she drives the wrong way on fifth avenue-- hitting a pedestrian and two cars back in may.
The officer conducting the investigation is 15 year veteran ryan schickfus.
According to an npd internal investigation, witnesses on the scene say they saw the woman stumbling out of a bar and into her car before the accident. The investigation also found that based witness testimony and this video-- officer shickfus had probable cause to arrest the woman for driving under the influence-- but he let her off the hook because she was a former colleague of his.
Schickfus in dash cam video:
"58:09 you're not gona go to jail tonight, I know you, you seem to be talking fine, I can smell the alcohol on you 16. 32 you think you're ok to drive home? Yes. You sure?"
Chief tom weschler, naples police department:
"11:24 allowing that to take place in that incident was definitely a public safety risk. 9:00 in my opinion it was a lack of judgment, poor judgment.14 it's unacceptable and that's why he received the discipline on that 19"
Schickfus was suspended in November without pay for 10 days and removed from the night dui detail. He's now working patrols on the day shift.
While working this past monday-- officer schickfus hit a pedestrian with his patrol car while turning onto us41. A collier county sheriffs office investigation found him at fault. He's now the focus of yet another internal investigation-- looking into his behavior and possibly more disciplinary action.
Chief: 10:46 we take this very seriously
Back in 2006 officer schifkus was given a three day suspension for unprofessional behavior after he mouthed off to a teenager he pulled over, laughing at him and towing his car-- even though the teenager passed his dui test.
That same year he was investigated for putting pedestrian at risk as he sped down busy fifth avenue to pull someone over.
9:27 gaby? why hasn't he been fired? Like I said earlier that's one of the frustrations of police cheifs throughout the state of fl when you deal w these things you have to deal w progressive discipline you have to deal w contracts you have to deal w the florida officers bill of rights

TONIGHT IT IS BEING CALLED A 'SUPERBUG'
WE NOW KNOW THIS *NEW* STRAIN OF NOROVIRUS, WHICH MAKES PEOPLE VIOLENTLY ILL
FIRST IDENTIFIED IN AUSTRALIAIT IS NOW RIPPING ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
IN AN AVERAGE YEAR, ABOUT 21 MILLION AMERICANS GET NOROVIRUS - WITH THOSE
CLASSIC STOMACH FLU SYMPTOMS800 WILL DIE. IT COMES ON VERY SUDDENLY -
WITHIN HOURS OF BEING EXPOSED.
AND *TODAY*SINCE NO ONE HAS IMMUNITY TO THIS NEW STRAINMANY MORE OF US*
PERHAPS 50% MORE*COULD FALL ILL
IT'S LIKE A FERRARI- FAST MOVING AND WELL DESIGNED.
COMPARE IT TO THE FLU.
FLU IS SPREAD MOSTLY IN THE AIR - BY COUGHS AND SNEEZES. YOU NEED TO BREATH
IN AS MANY AS 1000 VIRUS PARTICLES TO GET SICK.
NOROVIRUS? JUST 18 PARTICLES WILL DO IT - EXTREMELY CONTAGIOUS.
BESSER STANDUP TRACK - THAT MEANS IF I'M RIDING ON AN ESCALATOR AND PUT MY
HAND HERE - AND SOMEONE WITH NOROVIRUS PUT THEIR HAND HERE - 2 WEEKS AGO --
I'VE JUST PICKED IT UP.
THAT'S RIGHT, ON HARD SURFACES - REVOLVING DOORS, DOOR HANDLES , COFFEE
MAKERS, REGULAR FLU VIRUS CAN LAST 2 TO 8 HOURS - BUT NOROVIRUS COULD BE
THERE, AND INFECTIOUS, FOR WEEKS.
CLEANING YOUR HOME - REGULAR DETERGENTS DON'T WORK. YOU HAVE TO USE BLEACH.
YOU NEED TO GET NOROVIRUS OFF YOUR HANDS BEFORE IT GETS TO YOUR STOMACH --
GOOD OLD SOAP AND WATER, OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

It was a last minute thing. He called me about 10 days ago and said were coming to Florida on vacation we want to surprise our family and we need somebody to help us.
SLATER ARRANGED ALL THE DETAILS, DOWN TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER.
The energy between them was amazing. You could just see they were in love. It was really fun photographing them. In one hour I think we took 450 pictures.
THOSE PICTURES ARE SAFE AND SOUND WITH THE PHOTOGRAPHER.
BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER CAMERA.THEIR PERSONAL CAMERA.THAT HAD THOSE PRICELESS.CANDID PICTURES OF THE WEDDING DAY AND THEIR TRIP HERE.THAT HAS DISAPPEARED.
I don't know if it got left at the gate I don't know if it got left at security. It was somewhere between us getting there and us getting on the plane. It just went missing.
By the time the couple got back to Minnesota they realized their camera was missing. That's when they remembered the last time they saw it, between security and the gate.
APRIL CALLED THE AIRPORT, THE AIRLINE, AND THE T-S-A.
BUT NOTHING TURNED UP.

THESE TWO GIRLS ARE AMONG THE VERY LAST RUSSIAN ORPHANS WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM THE COMPASSION OF AMERICAN FAMILIES.
"So Alissa and Haley were both abandoned at birth due to their Down syndrome."
KELLY GROVE HAS PREVIOUSLY ADOPTED EIGHT OTHER CHILDREN FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES - ALL WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.
SHE WAS DETERMINED TO MAKE THESE GIRLS HER DAUGHTERS AS WELL BECAUSE RUSSIA'S DISABLED ORPHANS ALMOST ALWAYS SPEND THEIR LIVES IN INSTITUTIONS.
"I cry all the time about it." "They are joyous and have a lot to offer the world but instead they're locked away for the rest of their lives."
Alissa and Haley are fortunate because their new family finished the long adoption process just before a new law took effect on January 1st, banning American citizens from adopting Russian children.
"This law is absolutely devastating, it's absolutely devastating to these children because you've taken away their only real hope at a family and a real life."
THE LAW HAS CREATED LEGAL CONFUSION FOR DOZENS OF OTHER AMERICAN FAMILIES WHO ALSO THOUGHT THEY COULD TAKE THEIR CHILDREN HOME.
JEANNA BONNER AND HER HUSBAND ARE AMONG THEM.
THEY HAVE A DAUGHTER WITH DOWN SYNDROME AND THAT INSPIRED THEM TO ADOPT A RUSSIAN GIRL WITH THE SAME DISABILITY.
DESPITE FINISHING THE LEGAL PROCESS, A RUSSIAN COURT HAS SO FAR REFUSED TO RELEASE THE CHILD.
"That little girl, in my heart is my daughter and I love her just as I do my other two at home so I'm just trying to stay positive."
REBECCA AND BRIAN PREECE ARE WAITING TO RECEIVE A FOUR YEAR OLD BOY.
"Can't they put themselves in our shoes or in the shoes of these children? I hope that they would see that and have mercy on these little children."
THE NEW LAW IS RUSSIA'S RESONSE TO U.S. LEGISLATION DESIGNED TO PUNISH OFFICIALS WHO ABUSE HUMAN RIGHTS HERE.
BUT MANY RUSSIANS ARE ANGRY WITH THE ADOPTION BAN AND THOUSANDS RALLIED AGAINST IT IN MOSCOW.
THEY BELIEVE THE COUNTRY'S ORPHANS WILL NOW SUFFER BECAUSE OF A POLITICAL DISPUTE.

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.
IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF THE NEW YEAR GOT YOU DOWN?
STRESSED OUT ALREADY?
MAYBE IT'S TIME TO LET IT ALL OUT WITH A GOOD LAUGH.
Some studies suggest it lowers blood pressure, there have been other investigators who have shown it may have an affect on immune response, so perhaps better response from someone who has a common cold or infections when they laugh.
RESEARCHERS HAVE FOUND THAT LAUGHING NOT ONLY LOOSENS US UP, AND OPENS UP OUR BLOOD VESSELS, IT CAN ALSO DE-STRESS US.
AND THAT'S GOOD BECAUSE STRESS CAN CAUSE THE BRAIN TO OVERLOAD WITH CHEMICALS THAT COULD LEAD TO HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE, EVEN A STROKE OR HEART ATTACK.
You can easily counteract a stressful response with laughter.
BEST WAYS TO GET A GOOD CHUCKLE?
DOCTORS RECOMMEND SPENDING TIME WITH FRIENDS OR ENJOYING A FUNNY BOOK OR A COMEDY ON TV OR AT THE MOVIES. AND TRY TO SEE THE HUMOR IN LIFE.
BECAUSE.
Laughter is by far among the best medicines, that we can take.
