HELLO-1SHOT PUSH

GOOD MORNING SOUTHWEST FLORIDA.

TODAY IS SATURDAY FEBRUARY 9TH 20-13.

I'M JOE ROETZ

BEFORE WE GET TO OUR BIG STORIES OF THE DAY - LETS CHECK IN WITH METEOROLOGIST KIRA MINER WITH OUR PRECISION FORECAST. Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

While the Northeast and New England states are in the midst of a blizzard, we're in store for a beautiful weekend across Southwest Florida. Now that a weak front has pushed well to our south, some slightly drier air has filtered down the peninsula, which means a few cooler nights and mornings, with afternoons remaining quite warm.

The day will start off nice and sunny with temperatures in the upper 50s along the urban corridor with a few middle 50s being recorded in our inland northern communities. With ample sunshine in control of our skies through the day, afternoon highs will have no problem rebounding into the lower 80s. A northeasterly breeze around 10-15 mph will keep the dry air spilling in, which means humidity levels will be low making our Saturday quite comfy.

Clear skies will remain in the forecast tonight along with cool temperatures in the upper 50s by the time you wake up on Sunday.

High pressure across the Southeast will keep us in a holding pattern through the first half of the week. This will provide us with mostly sunny skies and dry weather. Winds will begin to turn more easterly allowing daytime highs to climb into the middle 80s by Monday with overnight lows in the 60s.

By mid week, we'll see an increase in the humidity, the clouds, and the rain as a cold front approaches the state from the northwest. Return to index of stories...

MAIN WEATHER-WX CTR

EVERYONE WHO USES THE AIRLINES WILL SEE A DIFFERENCE.

SCOTT WICKERSHAM TAKES A LOOK AT WHAT THE MERGER MEANS FOR YOU FEE-WISE. Return to index of stories...

AIRLINE MERGER-PKG

I'VE TALKED TO A LOT OF EXPERTS THIS WEEK.

THEY ALL AGREE.

"The airline merger. Yes its going to happen."

TICKET PRICES WILL LIKELY RISE.

ROUTES COULD CHANGE.

BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE FEES YOU PAY?

"We've dropped down, in recent years, from seven major carriers. Now we

would be down to 4."

LESS COMPETITION THAT ECONOMIST JOHN CONNAUGHTON

SAYS COULD LEAD TO HIGHER FEES.

BUT YOU WONT SEE THAT FOR ABOUT A YEAR. SINCE

AIRLINES BOOK FLIGHTS 11 MONTHS OUT.

RIGHT NOW BOTH AIRLINES DON'T CHARGE FOR A CARRY ON.

. IT COSTS $25 FOR THE FIRST CHECKED BAG. 35 FOR A SECOND.

THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IS IN REBOOKING FEES.

AMERICAN CHARGES JUST 25. WHILE US AIR CHARGES 150

.

IN THE MERGER. AMERICAN COULD ADOPT THAT HIGHER

RATE.

ALSO EXPECT CHANGES TO THE FREQUENT FLYER PROGRAM.

A SHAKE-UP OF REGIONAL AIRLINES PARTNERS, HOTELS AND

RENTAL CAR COMPANIES THEY HAVE ALLIANCES WITH.

SEBASTIAN DELBALLE EARNS POINTS AT MARRIOT HOTELS.

AND LEVERNE JACKMAN DOESN'T SEE A WAY TO FIGHT BACK

AGAINST FEES.

BUT THE AIRPORT'S DIRECTOR IS HOPEFUL THE FREE

MARKET WILL KEEP COSTS IN CHECK.

CAR SALES-VOTOPS

THAT WAS SCOTT WICKERSHAM REPORTING.

IF YOU'RE IN THE MARKET FOR A NEW CAR, YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER THIS.

IF GAS WERE TO INCREASE BY A DOLLAR A GALLON, SMALL CAR SALES WOULD BEAT OUT HYBRIDS AND ELECTRIC CARS.

THE RESEARCH SHOWED THAT THERE WAS A DIRECT CORRELATION BETWEEN FLUCTUATIONS IN GAS PRICES AND CHANGES IN MARKET SHARE FOR DIFFERENT MODELS OF CARS.

HYBRID CARS ARE CURRENTLY SELLING AT A RATE OF ABOUT 20-THOUSAND TO 40-THOUSAND UNITS PER MONTH BUT A BIG GAS HIKE WOULD DRASTICALLY REDUCE SALES GROWTH.

SALES OF ELECTRIC CARS WOULD GROW EVEN LESS AND CURRENTLY ACCOUNTS FOR JUST ONE-TENTH OF U-S AUTO SALES. Return to index of stories...

OBSTETRICIAN JONATHAN BRATTER DELIVERS AT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL MIRAMAR.
