TRACKING WARMER WEATHER

It was a chilly, raw and wet day across Southwest Florida Thursday, with plenty of rain and highs only in the upper 50s and low 60s. The steady rain will diminish to more scattered activity this evening, with near steady temps in the 50s. Rain will also be possible for the overnight, with lows holding in the 50s.

We start a nice warming trend beginning Friday. The day will feature plenty of cloud cover, with scattered showers possible and highs climbing into the mid 70s. Overnight lows will not be as cool, with temps holding in the low 60s.

Sunshine returns to the area on Saturday. We'll see partly sunny skies for much of the day, but the sun that we do see will allow temps to climb into the low 80s.

Sunday will feature a heavy dose of sun, with partly cloudy skies and highs again climbing into the low 80s.

Our dry & warm weather pattern holds as we start next week, with partly cloudy skies and highs holding in the low to mid 80s. A few sprinkles will be possible midweek, otherwise dry will prevail for most of next week. Return to index of stories...

SCRIPT:

CANDY BARS, TRAIL MIX EVEN EGG ROLLS -- PEANUTS, PEANUT OIL, PEANUT PARTICLES,

ARE EVERYWHERE. AND PARENTS OF KIDS WITH LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES FEAR

THAT THEIR CHILD MAY ENCOUNTER THEM EVERY DAY.

NOW, NEW FINDINGS MAY HELP SOME KIDS AND THEIR FAMILIES BREATHE A LITTLE

EASIER - BOTH LITERALLY AND FIGURATIVELY.

BRITISH RESEARCHERS LOOKED INTO ORAL IMMUNOTHERAPY - A TREATMENT WHICH

INVOLVES CAREFULLY FEEDING ALLERGIC KIDS TINY AMOUNTS OF POWDERED PEANUTS.

BIT BY BIT, THEY WERE ABLE TO SAFELY BUILD CHILDRENS' TOLERANCE. AND AFTER

MONTHS OF THIS, MANY OF THESE KIDS WERE ABLE TO AVOID A BAD REACTION - EVEN

AFTER EATING THE EQUIVALENT OF FIVE PEANUTS.

A PROMISING FINDING BUT ONE THAT COMES WITH A STRICT WARNING FROM DOCTORS

THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE TRIED AT HOME WITHOUT A DOCTOR'S SUPERVISION. THE

CONSEQUENCES COULD BE DANGEROUS - IF NOT FATAL.

BUT AS DOCTORS LEARN MORE - PARENTS OF PEANUT ALLERGIC KIDS MAY BE GETTING

CLOSER TO A SIGH OF RELIEF. Return to index of stories...
