MORE WARMTH FOR THE WEEKEND

We closed the work week with plenty of clouds and scattered showers across the region. But Friday also featured warmer weather, with highs climbing into the 70s area wide.

The clouds and a few showers will persist this evening, with temps falling into the 60s. More clouds are likely overnight, with mild lows only in the mid 60s. Low clouds and fog may also develop late tonight towards daybreak.

The warmup continues into Saturday. The clouds will remain, but some sunshine is expected. Highs will climb into the low 80s. A few sprinkles will also be possible, but most areas will stay dry.

The weather improves greatly heading into Sunday. We will see plenty of sunshine all day long with even warmer highs in the mid 80s.

The dry and warm weather will stay in place for the start of next week as well. Expect plenty of sun both Monday & Tuesday, with highs again in the mid 80s.

A few sprinkles will be possible late week, but it still looks like many areas will remain dry. High temps all next week will stay in the 80s. Return to index of stories...

THIS IS CHARDA GREGORY, A YOUNG MOTHER WHO LOVES HER HAIR. THIS 22-YEAR-OLD HAIR DRESSER LOVES CHANGING HER STYLE OFTEN BY USING WEAVE.

But LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENED TO GREGORY'S HAIR AFTER AN ENCOUNTER with a Warren Police Officer.

EVEN THOUGH THERE'S NO AUDIO ON THE VIDEO FROM INSIDE THE WARREN JAIL, YOU CAN SEE GREGORY IS KICKING HER LEGS, WRITHING IN PAIN AS THE OFFICER PLUNGES SCISSORS INTO HER HAIR, HACKING AWAY AT THE WEAVE THAT WAS SEWN INTO BRAIDS ON HER SCALP.

SO HOW DID THIS ALL BEGIN?

"I was confused. I didn't know what happened and what was going on."

GREGORY SAYS BACK IN NOVEMBER SHE WENT TO A PARTY IN DETROIT, WHERE SHE BELIEVES SOMEONE DRUGGED HER.

PAUL MISUKEWICZ IS HER LAWYER:

"She had a couple of drinks, then woke up in a strange place. Didn't know how she got there.

THAT STRANGE PLACE WAS THE SUEZ MOTEL ON 8 MILE IN WARREN, WHERE GREGORY GOT ARRESTED FOR TRASHING A ROOM.

BY THE TIME SHE WAS BROUGHT IN TO THE JAIL LOCK-UP ON THE TOP FLOOR OF THE WARREN POLICE DEPARTMENT, GREGORY HAD BEEN PEPPER SPRAYED, BUT SHE APPEARS CALM.

IT'S CLEAR IN THE VIDEO THAT GREGORY CAN BARELY STAND AS SHE COMES FACE TO FACE WITH OFFICER BERNADETTE NAJOR.

"She took it upon herself to get the scissors. And for whatever reason, decided that she was going to butcher my client."

AS OFFICER NAJOR PATS GREGORY DOWN, THE OFFICER PUSHES GREGORY AGAINST THE WALL TWICE.

SUDDENLY NAJOR STARTS GOING FOR GREGORY'S HAIR. THE OFFICERS STRUGGLE WITH GREGORY, DRAGGING HER OVER TO A RESTRAINING CHAIR TO TIE DOWN HER ARMS AND LEGS.

OFFICER NAJOR STARTS YANKING GREGORY'S HEAD FROM SIDE TO SIDE, CHOPPING OUT CHUNKS OF HAIR. IT TAKES 3 FULL MINUTES BEFORE NAJOR GIVES ONE FINAL YANK AND REMOVES WHAT'S LEFT OF GREGORY'S WEAVE.

STORMWARN 7 FORECAST OPEN-CLIP

Return to index of stories...

FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

The pipeline of tropical moisture that's produced a couple cloudy, rainy days continues to dump moisture into Southwest Florida today, but we are tracking a couple improvements from yesterday's gloomy forecast.

First, the rain won't be as widespread, and second, temperatures will be warmer.

Rain will still be possible at any time and any place today, but the overall coverage of rain won't be as widespread as what we saw yesterday. Our rain chance today will be near 60%, so chances are good you'll encounter some passing showers at some point during the day.

With respect to temperatures, yesterday most of us didn't even warm into the 60s. Today, the cool air will start retreating to the north, and slightly warmer air will take its place. After starting this morning with temperatures in the 50s, we'll warm into the mid 60s by noon and most likely the low to mid 70s during the afternoon--about a 15 degree warm up from yesterday.

For those wanting some sunnier weather, there are improvements coming just in time for the weekend. Saturday will remain fairly cloudy, but we should manage partial sunshine from time to time. Some isolated showers will be possible tomorrow, but our rain prospects will be considerably low with the chance of rain around 30%.

Sunday's forecast looks even better with a partly cloudy sky and rain pretty much out of the forecast.

For the warm weather fans, you'll love this weekend. High temperatures will make the low to mid 80s Saturday and Sunday with overnight temperatures only cooling into the mid 60s.

The warm weather rolls along into next week, too, with highs in the mid 80s through mid week along with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Return to index of stories...

TROOPERS TELL US THE WHITE TRUCK WAS IN THE INSIDE LANE ON IMMOKALEE ROAD HEADING EAST WHEN IT STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT, LOST CONTROL AND FLIPPED - THAT'S WHEN IT HIT A PEDESTRIAN, THEN A LIGHT POLE AND ENDED UP IN A DITCH.

THE PEDESTRIAN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE.

Christopher Craig Jr./Witness/21:33:31 "everybody from on the road, to target - were all here , running screaming calling 911 as fast as they could."

SPECTATORS LINED UP FOR HOURS FRIDAY - CATCHING A GLIMPSE OF WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE TRAGIC ACCIDENT.

WE SPOKE WITH A FATHER SON DUO - WHO WATCHED THE ENTIRE THING PLAY OUT FROM THE PARKING LOT.

Christopher Craig Jr./Witness, Naples/21:32:55 "all i saw was the white truck, driving toward where i was at and he was swerving but not swerving, trying to swerve not to hit the person and his car went up the hill, hit the tree, and then landed back over."

Chris Craig/Naples/21:34:30 "it was total chaos, there was a whole line ambulances, firetrucks , cars, onlookers, people that witnessed it - it was mayhem."

49:47 it's frustrating and your heart just goes out to that dog

because you know it suffered. 49:51

ANIMAL CONTROL DOESN'T KNOW THIS DOG'S NAME OR WHERE SHE CAME FROM.

A MAN FOUND HER ABANDONED, WEARING A SWEATER AT A

DOG PARK IN NFM.

Ria Brown, Lee Co Animal Services

51:05 it's just inexcusable. I can't imagine what went through

somebody's mind to think that was an appropriate way to deal with it.

51:12

BY THE TIME THE MAN GOT THE DOG TO A NEARBY VETERINARIAN IT WAS TOO

LATE. THE TUMOR HAD BURST INTO A GAPING BLEEDING HOLE

Teresa Kincade, North Shore Animal Hospital

1:07:27 it upset me that they wouldn't come an just ask to see of

somebody we do something for them. They just dumped her there. 1:07:37

TERESA KINCADE SAW THE DOG AT NORTH SHORE ANIMAL HOSPITAL. SHE SAYS

THEY WOULD HAVE EUTHANIZED HER FOR FREE IF THE OWNER HAD SIMPLY

ASKED.

SHE SAYS ITS NOT UNCOMMON FOR PEOPLE TO ABANDON ANIMALS AT HER CLINIC

AND THE PARK.

Bill Kennedy, NFM

59:57 times are tough, ppl don't have the money a lot of the times, I

can understand it, but it's really the wrong thing to do. 1:00:02

NOW ANIMAL CONTROL WANTS PET OWNERS TO KNOW THERE ARE BETTER OPTIONS.

THEY HAVE PROGRAMS TO HELP PAY FOR TREATMENT IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD IT.

THIS DOG'S OWNER DIDN'T EXPLORE THOSE POSSIBILITIES- NOW ANIMAL

SERVICE OFFICERS ARE LOOKING FOR THEM.

Ria Brown, Lee Co Animal Services

52:15 it's hard to figure out why someone who had a dog that obviously

looked like it had been cared for would let this happen, then choose

to abandon it in that matter. 52:24 Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WXWALL

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IS NOT A DAY TO DIET.

THERE'S NO SALAD BAR AT A SUPER BOWL PARTY! WE'RE TALKING CHICKEN WINGS. PIZZA. GIANT MEATBALLS.

BUT IF YOUR TEAM LOSES. WATCH WHAT YOU EAT ON -MONDAY.-

RESEARCHERS IN FRANCE ANALYZED AMERICANS' FOOTBALL-RELATED FOOD HABITS. THEY FOUND PEOPLE LIVING IN CITIES WITH N-F-L TEAMS CONSUMED MORE CALORIES AND MORE SATURATED FAT THE DAY AFTER A LOSS.

DESPITE THE BELIEFS OF SUPERSTITIOUS BRONCOS OR SEAHAWKS FANS. YOU CANNOT CHANGE THE OUTCOME OF THE GAME.

YOU CAN CHANGE HOW YOU HANDLE A TOUGH LOSS.

"Either get rid of the leftovers, only make enough so you don't have leftovers, give it away."

YOU CAN ALSO MAKE THE PARTY FIXIN'S HEALTHIER.

MAKE CHILI WITH GROUND TURKEY OR SUBSTITUTE GREEK YOGURT FOR SOUR CREAM AND QUESO IN DIPS.

BUT EVEN STICKLERS FOR NUTRITION WILL TELL YOU -- GO AHEAD -- PIG OUT A LITTLE ON THE ANNUAL DAY OF PIGSKIN WORSHIP.

"That one day is not that bad, you just need to get back into your healthy eating habits and regular exercise routine the next day."
