FIRST WEATHER-WXWALL

"A warm start to the week"

After the low clouds and fog lifted across Southwest Florida yesterday, it turned out to be a pretty nice Sunday. Lots of sunshine returned and temperatures warmed close to record values as they soared into the middle to upper 80s.

This morning areas of fog will form once again, especially across our inland communities. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Glades, Hendry, and inland Collier county until 9am. It will also be a rather mild and humid start with temperatures in the middle to upper 60s. Once the fog lifts, partly sunny skies will take us into the afternoon hours with minimal rain chances. A couple of isolated showers will be possible mainly east of I- 75, otherwise plan on a fairly dry and warm start to the week. In fact, afternoon highs will run 10° above average as they climb into the middle 80s. With the developing west coast seabreeze, temperatures will be slightly cooler along the coast and at our beach locations.

With clear skies and light winds in the forecast tonight, patchy fog will be a concern for the early morning commute on Tuesday. Temperatures will also settle in the middle to upper 60s.

The unseasonably warm weather will stick around through the middle part of the week. Plan on morning lows to be quite mild in the middle 60s, while temperatures climb into the lower to middle 80s during the day. A bit more moisture will return by midweek adding a little bit of cloud cover to our skies, along with the a few more showers by Wednesday. A better rain chance will come in for the second half of the weekend ahead of an approaching cold front. Return to index of stories...

DEVELOPING THIS MORNING.

NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR CHRIS CHRISTIE'S OFFICE IS FIRING BACK AGAINST NEW ALLEGATIONS IN THE TRAFFIC JAM SCANDAL.

GMA BRIDGEGATE SCANDAL LATEST-PKG

SUPERBOWL SUNDAY WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A GOOD NEWS DAYS FOR CHRIS CHRISTIE.

BUT POLITICS IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT.

Rudy Giuliani: "If he's lying, it's a really bad situation. If he's not lying, then something very unfair is being done to him."

CHRISTIE'S TEAM IS BACK ON OFFENSE. SENDING A STINGING MEMO LATE SATURDAY TO SUPPORTERS THAT ATTACKS THE GOVERNOR'S ACCUSER AND FORMER ALLY, DAVID WILDSTEIN, THE EX-PORT AUTHORITY OFFICIAL WHO SUPERVISED THE LANE CLOSURES AT THE HEART OF THE BRIDGE TRAFFIC SCANDAL.

WILDSTEIN'S ATTORNEY PROVOKED THE BACKLASH WITH HIS LETTER CLAIMING THAT "EVIDENCE EXISTS" THE GOVERNOR KNOWS MORE ABOUT THE TRAFFIC MESS.

PAUL RYAN: "I consider Chris Christie a friend. I think he's been a fantastic Governor. Right now, all we know is one person's word against another."

DEMOCRATIC NEW JERSEY LAWMAKERS SAY SO FAR, THEY HAVE NOT SEEN ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT WILDSTEIN'S ALLEGATION.

MTP/ John Wisniewski NJ State Assembly: "Nothing that says the governor knew contemporaneously, which is the allegation that he's making now."

THE CHRISTIE MEMO CITES VARIOUS NEWS ARTICLES TO UNDERCUT WILDSTEIN PERSONALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY.

MEMO / CLAIMING:

"Wildstein Created "Culture Of Fear" Within Port Authority"

DESCRIBING A PAST JOB WHERE WILDSTEIN WAS.

".an anonymous blogger known as Wally Edge."

AND GOING BACK DECADES.

"He was publicly accused by his high school social studies teacher of deceptive behavior."

BUT THAT PROMPTED CRITICISM THE MEMO WENT TOO FAR.

MTP / PBS Host Gwen Ifill: "We've all been through high school. We all remember what those feelings were like. So that's not the strongest. It seems like a distraction when the more serious question at hand is what he knew and what he was going to do about it." Return to index of stories...

WASHINGTON - Despite increased security put in place after the rampage at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012, there's been no real reduction in the number of U.S. school shootings.

An Associated Press analysis finds there have been at least 11 school shootings this academic year alone, in addition to other cases of gun violence, in school parking lots and elsewhere on campus when classes were not in session. Experts say the rate of school shootings is statistically unchanged since the mid- to late-1990s, yet still remains troubling.

SCRIPT:

Russia was awarded these Olympics 7 years ago. But with just 4 days to go

this is Sochi:

Cranes are swinging.

Welders are sparking.

And hotel rooms, with mattresses piled up, are not nearly ready.

These are the biggest Winter games ever. 3000 athletes from 88 nations. But

its not clear this host city is even at the starting gate.

Where athletes are hoping to lay their path to Olympic glory, instead,

workers are still laying pavers.

SOCHI ORGANIZERS ADMIT ONLY 6 OF 9 media HOTELS ARE FULLY FUNCTIONAL.

They'd promised a total of 40,000 new ROOMS all up

clearly THIS is well short of expectations.

At least some of the US athletes are trying to put things in perspective:

Dallas Robinson, US bobsled team

SOT: I don't anticipate us being in any more harm's way than going down a

mountain on a bobsled.

THE international Olympic committee is, publicly at least, confident.

SOT Thomas Bach, President, International Olympic Committee: "There

are still some issues to be solved, as it is always just before the Games. /

/ we hope that the situation will be solved in the next couple of days."

But the pictures tell a less convincing story.

There's also this unusual design flaw: Instead of the 'double luge', it's

the 'double loo'.

These twin toilets are everywhere in Sochi. They may be spacious, but there'

s not much room for modesty.

FORECAST-WX WALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...
