BETTER WEATHER AHEAD

Clouds and cooler air filtered into Southwest Florida Thursday, with highs only in the low 70s. Rain showers are developing in the Gulf of Mexico, and these showers will push into the area through the evening time frame. The showers should slowly diminish overnight, with lows in the mid 50s.

More sunshine is on the way for Friday. We'll see partly cloudy skies through the daytime hours, with highs in the mid 70s. Overnight lows will again be cool, with temps in the mid 50s.

The weekend still looks great across the area. Expect plenty of sunshine both days with low humidity values. Highs on Saturday will be in the low 80s, with temps on Sunday in the low to mid 80s.

The nice weather continues into next week. A few more clouds will appear starting Monday, with highs in the mid 80s. Dry weather continues into Tuesday, with temps in the low 80s.

Our next storm system will likely arrive midweek, which will bring a good chance of showers and possibly storms to the area. Return to index of stories...

IN THE COLD WINTER WEATHER, YOU MAY BE DREAMING OF JETTING AWAY TO A

BUT IF YOU THINK THAT TRIP IS GOING TO HAPPEN ON DELTA AIRLINES, THERE ARE

SOME BIG CHANGES COMING IN 2015. DELTA IS THE FIRST MAJOR CARRIER TO SWITCH

THEIR FREQUENT FLYER POINTS FROM MILES TRAVELED TO DOLLARS SPENT.

SOT WOMAN AT AIRPORT: "It's going to take a lot longer to get points"

AS A BASELINE, THE NEW PROGRAM WILL AWARD FIVE POINTS FOR EVERY

DOLLAR SPENT --

THAT MEANS CHEAP ECONOMY TICKETS ARE WORTH A LOT LESS.

FOR EXAMPLE: A TICKET FROM ATLANTA TO L-A WHICH COSTS $427

dollars RIGHT NOW WOULD EARN ALMOST 4-THOUSAND MILES TODAY. BUT

IN THE FUTURE, YOU'D ONLY GET 2,135 points.

BUT THERE ARE THINGS YOU CAN DO TO MAXIMIZE YOUR BENEFIT NOW SAYS "

MILECARDS-DOT-COM'S" BRIAN KAREEM-ZAD.

140951 LZ sot: if you're trying to decide should I hold on to those miles

in my bank or should I spend them now, what do you say?

140952 BK: if you have enough miles for the award you want, don't save them

any further, book the award travel you want now./

141212 What if you get your miles from credit cards, like so many people do?

BK: Nothings going to change on the earning, you're still going to get your

mile per dollar spent and be able to bank those like you usually do./What

we don't know is how many miles you'll need to book that ticket next year.

DELTA IS CHANGING NOT JUST HOW YOU GET MILES, BUT THIS FALL, THEY WILL

CHANGE HOW MANY MILES YOU NEED TO BUY A REWARD TICKET.

SITTING ON THE COUCH WITH HER DAUGHTER, SAVANNAH -- JESSICA HOUK

SAYS THERE SHOULDN'T REALLY BE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NURSING HERE. AND

THERE.

"We've never had a problem. It's an awesome place to be."

BUT LAST WEEK -- JESSICA WAS BREASTFEEDING AT THE "NORTH FAMILY YMCA" IN

DAVENPORT WHEN SHE SAYS SHE WAS TOLD TO "DO THAT" SOMEWHERE ELSE.

"I took the kids into the child watch area and Savannah just wanted to be

consoled a little bit more so I sat down and I nursed herand then when I

came back the childcare worker - another teenager - she's like I noticed you

were breastfeeding and that's fine, but if you're going to do that I need

you to go to the back corner so nobody can see you."

JESSICA SAYS SHE KNOWS THAT WAS AGAINST THE LAW. AND THAT'S WHY SHE'S

SPEAKING OUT AND STANDING UP FOR OTHER MOTHERS.

"For every one of these instances that you hear about, how many don't we

hear about?"

SHE REACHED OUT TO HEATHER WEIGAND WITH THE "QUAD CITIES

BREASTFEEDING COALITION" --

"It's very sad that we're a top-rated nation that has a huge problem."

A PROBLEM *BOTH CALL A NATIONAL HEALTH CRISIS.

"A national health crisis. I really believe that, you know, all these

instances of cancer are going up and all these illnesses that could be

prevented and we're just not giving babies a shot and we're undermining the

power of women."

A PROBLEM HEATHER SAYS CAN BE *SOLVED BY JUST BETTER TRAINING.

"The training needs to be so it's the same from begining to end, from

General Management all the way down to the hourly employees."

REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE "Y" SAY THEY SUPPORT A MOTHER'S RIGHT TO BREASTFEED

AND ARE WORKING TO "EDUCATE THEIR STAFF."

"We are fully aware that it is a mother`s right to breastfeed in any space

that the mother herself is welcome. Like all management issues, we

communicate this to our members, volunteers and program participants."

21-YEAR-OLD U-M-B-C STUDENT SERGIO GUTIERREZ WAS LEAVING THE BARS ON YORK ROAD, WHEN HE DECIDED TO START ROLLING WITH HIS CELL PHONE CAMERA.

"It seemed like they were being a little too forceful with these people being arrested, and I don't know. It didn't seem like these people were resisting at all. They just had them pinned down."

.BUT SOON, HIS CAMERA GRABBED AS MUCH ATTENTION.

"You see the police presence here?"

"Yes."

"Do you see us all? We're not around. Do you understand?"

"Am I interfering?"

"Do not, do not disrespect us--"

"I'm not."

"--and do not not listen to us."

"I'm not disrespecting--"

"Now, walk away and shut your mouth or your going to jail."

GUTIERREZ SAYS HE WAS SINGLED OUT IN THE CROWD BY THE UNNAMED OFFICERS, BECAUSE HE WAS RECORDING THEIR WORK.

"They grabbed my head and shoved my face against the wall."

"Don't."

"I have done nothing here."

"Don't open your mouth."

"I thought."

"I'm not playing with you."

"I thought I had freedom of speech, here."

"You don't. You just lost it."

"Okay."

"Walk away."

TODAY, A BALTIMORE COUNTY POLICE SPOKESWOMAN SAYS THE DEPARTMENT IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE VIDEO AND THEY HAVE STARTED AN INVESTIGATION.

"The courts in Maryland have settled this issue. It is legal for a civilian to film a police officer on duty and in a public place."

IN FACT -- AN ATTORNEY EXPLAINED GUTIERREZ'S LEGAL RIGHTS.

"They're recording the news, and there's a fair use, a first amendment right for recording the news."

.SO IF YOUR JOB IS TO REPORT OR YOU'RE JUST A WATCHFUL CITIZEN, YOUR RIGHTS ARE THE SAME AS LONG AS YOU'RE NOT IN THE WAY OF A POLICE INVESTIGATION.

It's a big day for 6 month old Connor.

Sot Ed Callahan, Cape Coral grandfather

This is Connors first red sox game, he comes from a long line of red sox fans."

The day stating smooth,

Just like traffic to jetBlue Park.

Sot Ed

It wasnt too bad today, we came up Daniels and got here in almost no time."

Other fans agree.

Sot

We just breezed right in, it was really good."

Sot

Getting in on the street right here it was fine."

A suprise to fans like Ed-

Sot Ed

I'd say it was a lot better this year than last year."

The Lee county sheriffs office runs the traffic control.

Sot Lt. Larry King, Lee County Sheriff's Office

Mostly our congestion of course is right before the game, maybe an

hour or so before when things are pretty tight, and as the game exits,

there's a mass exodus do that's when things get really slow."

Their goal- keep everyone safe,

And help everyone get where they need to be in a timely manner.

Sot Larry

We learn by experience."

This year for each red sox game:

there's 1 supervisor, paid 60 dollars and hour.

And 12 deputies at 50 dollars per hour.

Multiply that by 6 hours and add in the cost of the patrol cars,

The total is about $4,150.

For the 31 days both the Red Sox and the twins are in town,

Lee county taxpayers will pay $133,300 total for traffic control.

That money comes from the general fund designed to parks and recreation.

Sot Larry

Lee county government pays for the traffic details, getting people off

lee county roads and into the park, once there's in the park those are

the fees and costs that are attributed to the team"

Its a cost some say is worth it,

considering the estimated 47 million dollar economic impact spring

training brings to lee county.

That and experiences like this-

Sot Ed

aw man this is a super big day. Return to index of stories...
