TRACKING A GREAT WEEKEND

It was another mostly sunny and warm Friday across Southwest Florida, with highs pushing into the mid 80s. Expect mostly clear skies this evening with temps falling into the 70s. It will be mild overnight, with lows in the low to mid 60s. Some patchy fog may also develop towards daybreak.

The weekend is still looking great across the region. Mostly sunny skies will be the rule for Saturday, with dry conditions. Highs on Saturday will climb into the mid 80s, with coastal areas in the low 80s courtesy of a afternoon sea breeze.

Sunday will also feature plenty of sun and dry weather. Highs on Sunday will be a touch warmer with temps in the mid to upper 80s, and low 80s along the coast.

Changes arrive to start next week. Our next storm system will approach the region Monday. This will bring increasing clouds through the daytime hours. Despite the clouds, highs on Monday will be in the mid 80s.

A powerful cool front will move into the region on Tuesday. The front will likely spark showers and storms. Some storms could possibly pack a punch as well. Highs on Tuesday will be cooler, with temps in the low 80s.

Behind the front, dry and tranquil conditions return to the area. Sunshine returns for the back end of next week, with highs in the 70s and 80s. Return to index of stories...

WERE THEY UNJUSTLY REJECTED?

AN ILLINOIS COUPLE IS QUESTIONING PEOPLE MAGAZINE'S DECISION TO SHOOT DOWN A PHOTO THEY SENT IN FOR A CONTEST.

BOB FARRIS SNAPPED A FEW SHOTS OF HIS WIFE HOLDING ONE OF HIS PRIZED GUNS, HOPING THE NATIONAL MAGAZINE WOULD PUBLISH THE PICTURE.

HE WAS TURNED DOWN TWICE.

SO HE GOT CREATIVE TO SEE IF HIS WIFE WAS BEING TARGETED. Return to index of stories...

PEOPLE MAG GUN CONTROVERSY-PKG

"I don't think there is anything more beautiful than a woman holding a handgun."

THAT'S WHY ONE DAY LAST SUMMER WHEN BOB FARRIS' WIFE SANDRA CAME HOME FROM CHURCH LOOKING ESPECIALLY LOVELY,

BOB FETCHED HIS 35 MILLIMETER CANNON. HIS 45 CALIBER COLT. AND STARTED SHOOTING.

"That was my husband's idea."

AND SO WAS ENTERING THAT PICTURE IN A CONTEST CALLED "REAL BEAUTY AT EVERY AGE." SPONSORED BY PEOPLE MAGAZINE.

"It just so happens that the photo I liked the best has her holding a 45 automatic. I didn't think they'd reject the photo."

BUT THEY DID.

LISTING AT LEAST THREE POSSIBLE REASONS FOR REJECTION. SIZE. FOCUS. OR INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT.

"I was a little shocked at first."

TO SEE IF THE GUN WAS THE PROBLEM. BOB SUBMITTED A SECOND PISTOL-PACKING PICTURE. AND WAS ONCE AGAIN SHOT DOWN.

ONLY AFTER ENTERING A THIRD TIME WITH "THIS" PICTURE DID BOB FINALLY HIT THE TARGET.

THE PHOTO WAS ACCEPTED.

"This is a Smith and Wesson 686."

THE CONTEST RULES MAKE IT CLEAR THE JUDGES CAN REJECT *ANY PHOTO FOR *ANY REASON AT ANY TIME.

THE MAGAZINE HAS ITS FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS.

BUT WHAT BOB AND SANDRA FARRIS DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY CELEBRATING THEIR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS WOULD BE CONSIDERED OFFENSIVE.

"I don't see anything wrong with the picture and women with guns."

"Guns are part of our LIFE." Return to index of stories...
