FIRST WEATHER-WXWALL

"Showers and storms move in today"

Our streak of warm days with plenty of sunshine will come to an end today as showers and storms move in ahead of our next cold front. In its wake, a cooler and drier airmass will filter down the peninsula allowing for sunnier weather to return for the end of the week.

Skies will stay mostly cloudy through the late morning hours, and the winds will kick up ahead of a line of showers and t-storms currently located out in the Gulf of Mexico. Expect the rain to approach our far northern counties by late morning. This line will continue to sag south and east through the afternoon, keeping our daytime highs in the low 80s. The severe weather risk remains low, with heavier downpours and gusty winds being the main threats.

The rain will begin to weaken as it pulls away from Southwest Florida, and quiet conditions will be in store for the rest of the night. Temperatures will also be about 10° cooler as they bottom out in the lower 60s by tomorrow morning.

High pressure will build in across the state on Wednesday allowing skies to clear and the sunshine to return. Winds will be quite gusty out of the north and northwest as it sends in cooler and drier air. Daytime highs will remain unseasonably cool as they top out in the upper 70s. By Thursday morning, temperatures will dip into the middle 50s with a nice warm up during the day as highs warm into the lower half of the 80s. Mainly dry and partly sunny skies will remain in the forecast through the weekend. Return to index of stories...

"Corporal Brueckner had kind of motioned me over to move around to the side. Corporal Brueckner then approached to try and get his attention just on him."

"So I just basically moved to draw his attention away from Troy who snuck around behind him and was able to snatch him off the wall."

IT HAPPENED FAST, WITH THE MAN KICKING IN PROTEST.

THE DEPUTIES USED THEIR "CRISIS INTERVENTION TRAINING" AND EXPERIENCE TO GET THE MAN OFF THE RAILING AND SAFE.

"It turned out to be a win win for everybody. We got there on scene. We all were on the same page on what we were gonna do."

"As far as bridges go, the Bay Pines Bridge isn't especially tall. But down below, there is shallow water, and sharp oyster beds which could have proved to be fatal."

A YOUNG MAN AT HIS BREAKING POINT, UPSET AT THE WORLD, NOW HAS HIS LIFE AHEAD OF HIM, THANKS TO SERGEANT JEFF ESTERLINE, CORPORAL JIM BRUECKNER, AND DEPUTY TROY SAVETZ.

"This is good day when you can help somebody like that."

THE MAN GOT MEDICAL ATTENTION AND THE HELP HE NEEDS.

"He started to break down and actually said, thank-you for saving his life." Return to index of stories...
