WEATHER TEASE-WXWALL

Drier and cooler weather settles in"

Winds will continue to be breezy out of the northwest with gusts up to 25mph. Patchy clouds will linger around through the mid day hours, with more sunshine breaking out during the afternoon hours. Daytime highs will be significantly cooler as they top out in the middle to upper 70s. As a dry airmass settles in, humidity levels will drop and our afternoon will remain quite comfortable.

Mostly clear skies will prevail tonight and temperatures will tumble into the middle 50s here in town. There will be a bit of a chill in the air, especially across our inland and northern cool spots, as the mercury drops into lower 50s by morning.

High pressure will have a nice grip on our weather through the end of the week. This will keep us in the 50s for one more night, but as winds start to veer more to the east a quick temperature rebound is forecast. By Thursday, daytime highs will climb into the lower to middle 80s with mainly dry and sunny weather. Rain returns to the area by Tuesday of next week. Return to index of stories...

- it's no secret so many roads in Lehigh are in rough shape.

-good news for drivers- Right now the D-O-T is testing three types of

pavement that will pave more of these streets Return to index of stories...

LEHIGH ASPHALT TESTING-PKG

Take pkg

Broken down and beaten up-

Rodney DeFiore knows all too well how bad Lehigh's streets are.

Take sot

3331-39

Even at five miles per hour coming down here it was bumpy and the car

we had had, well we got a new one because it tore up the front end.

These streets have seen better days-

Take sot

Randy Cerchie

Lee dot

Lack of use is bad for asphalt roadway and too much use during the

building boom we had concrete and rock trucks.

Lee county spends 1 million dollars a year paving as many of these

rocky roads as it can.

Take sot

3102-07

We have about 3000 miles of road in lee county and Lehigh has about

1500 of them.

It's a lot to keep up with.

And that money doesn't go far.

Take sot

3254-00

We used to get asphalt for 23 a ton. Now it's 78

But DOT's Randy Cerchie has a plan- his staff resurfaced 3 sections of

Lehigh with different types of pavement-- known as chip and seal.

Take sot

3456-02

It's oil, chips, cast into oil more oil and chips.

Take sot

Joe Roetz

0:10

Traditional paving is very expensive these days- with lee county only

able to pave a small section of road. This new chip seal method will

stretch tax dollars further- doubling the amount they can pave.

Rodney DeFiore is one of the lucky few to get some new blacktop- and

hopes to see this spread.
