PKG SCRIPT:

Overnight, prayers and tears -- a stunned suburban Pittsburg community

coming together after a shocking act of violence.

It happened here at Franklin Regional High School yesterday morning.

NATS Police transmission

"I DON'T KNOW WHAT I GOT GOING ON DOWN AT SCHOOL HERE, BUT I NEED SOME UNITS

HERE ASAP."

Police say this 16-year-old sophomore, Alex Hribal, wielding 8 to 10 inch

knives, ran through the halls slashing and stabbing anyone he could.

22 people in all - 21 students and a security guard.

SOT Unidentified Student in hoodie

SOT Trinity McCool

"IT WAS TERRIFYING HONESTLY. HIS FACE WAS BLANK. I COULD JUST SEE RAGE THE

IN HIS EYES, TRYING TO INFLICT HARM ON EVERYBODY THERE."

Hribal was charged with four counts of attempted homicide and 21 counts of

aggravated assault.

Authorities say he'll be prosecuted as an adult.

The FBI removed desktop computers and other items from Hribal's home.

The suspect's father offered this message to the victims.

SOT Harold Hribal, Suspect's Father

"MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO EVERYONE WHO WAS INJURED TODAY AND I HOPE THEY RECOVER

AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE."

This morning, students and faculty are being hailed as heroes.

During the attack, one wounded student bravely pulled the fire alarmalerting

everyone in the building.

And assistant principal Sam King tackled the suspect.

SOT Ian Griffith, Student

"MR. KING IMMOBILIZED HIM. HE PINNED HIM DOWN. I JUMPED ON TOP OF HIM AS

WELL AND JUST HELD DOWN HIS WRISTS AND ARMS."

There are also stories of students rushing to apply pressure to peers'

wounds. This morning, four of the victims remain in critical condition.

Authorities say this could have been such much worse if not for those heroic

staff and students.

FORECAST-WXWALL

throughout day the under full sunshine.

Humidity will stay at low and comfortable levels, and since the air will be so dry, rain won't be in the our forecast at all.

Temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 70s by noon and then peak in the low to mid 80s during the afternoon hours; coastal communities will stay closer to 80 while inland zones get closer to 85 degrees.

The wind won't be as strong today, but we'll still have some gusts in the 15-20 mph range.

this evening and tonight will be very pleasant but still a little on the cool side.

Most of us closer to the coast and along the urban corridor will drop to the low 60s, except around Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda where we'll dip into the upper 50s.

We continue the warming trend Friday through the weekend with daytime highs bouncing back to the mid to upper 80s.

Humidity also makes a comeback late this weekend, but moisture will still be too limited to bring a significant rain chance into the forecast, keeping the weekend outlook mainly dry and sunny.

The next chance of rain likely won't be until Tuesday when a weak cool front slides down the Florida peninsula. Return to index of stories...

THE SEARCH FOR 370-PKG

THIS MORNING. LISTEN TO SOME OF THE OCEAN SHILED'S ACTUAL RECORDINGS OF

THE FOUR PING DETECTIONS.

NATS:

EXPERTS SAY THAT IS A MANMADE SIGNAL. AND CONSISTENT WITH BLACK BOX

RECORDERS.THE 777 CARRIES TWO.

BUT WITH 16 MILES BETWEEN TWO OF THE DETECTIONS. SEARCHERS WANT EVEN

MORE.TO NARROW THE AREA THEY WILL HAVE TO MAP.

SOT:

Tom Haueter

they've taken an area that was somewhat the size of Pennsylvania and gotten

it down to a county size,

BUT THAT IS STILL A LARGE AREA.FOR THIS ROBOT.THE BLUEFIN 21. WHICH

WILL MAP THE OCEAN BOTTOM.

AS THIS MAP SHOWS.THE AREA THEY ARE LOOKING IS NOT FLAT. IT APPEARS TO

BE A GRADUAL NORTH SLOPE OF A PLATEAU NEARLY 15 THOUSAND FEET BELOW THE

SURFACE.

SO. OFFICIALS HAVE DECIDED TO RACE AGAINST THE LIFE OF THE BATTERIES.

HOPING FOR A FEW MORE PINGS NARROWING THE SEARCH.

THE BLUEFIN WHICH TRAVELS VERY SLOWLY. AS IT USES SONAR TO MAP THE

BOTTOM. HASN'T EVEN BE IN THE WATER YET.

SOT:

Tom Haueter

just takes time. the smaller the area the better, you can reduce the time

you have to search back and forth.

BUT HAVING AN INDICATION OF WHERE THE JETLINER MAY BE ON THE BOTTOM.

HAS ALLOWED SEARCHERS TO LOOK AT CURRENTS.AND THEY ARE SENDING PLANES

MILES TO THE NORTHWEST OF THE UNDERWATER SEARCH. HOPING THEY CAN FIND SOME

DEBRIS ON THE SURFACE OF THE VAST OCEAN. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WX WALL

After a cool and breezy start to the morning with temperatures in the 50s, we'll warm up quickly throughout day the under full sunshine.

IF YOU'RE NOT ALREADY IN THE HABIT OF FREQUENTLY CHANGING YOUR ONLINE PASSWORDS.

"THE HEARTBLEED BUG" SHOULD PROVIDE EXTRA INCENTIVE TO DO IT.

"You never know what kind of flaw out there could cause, sort of open the door for hackers to get in to your

private information."

THAT'S JUST WHAT SECURITY EXPERTS DISCOVERED THE HEARTBLEED BUG WAS DOING.

IT'S NOT A COMPUTER VIRUS, BUT INSTEAD, A MAJOR FLAW IN OPENSSL, A WIDELY-USED ENCRYPTION SOFTWARE THAT USUALLY PROTECTS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION.

"Because of the magnitude of the mistake, people who are engaging in malicious activities, people whose job it is to try to steal your data, it's made it very easy to do that, without being detected."

THE HEARTBLEED BUG WENT TWO YEARS WITHOUT BEING DETECTED, BUT THERE'S NO FIRM EVIDENCE YET THAT THE FLAW'S BEEN EXPLOITED.

TUMBLR IS AMONG THE MAJOR WEBSITES THAT DISCOVERED THE MISTAKE AND FIXED IT.

"The crucial companies that you interact with, that have the most crucial data on you, definitely make sure you're

keeping up with their website, and their blogs to see if they were affected by at all."

CONSUMERS CAN ALSO TYPE WEBSITE ADDRESSES INTO THIS ONLINE SITE TO SEE IF IT PASSES A "HEARTBLEED" SCREENING.

"Any website that takes your personal information could potentially be affect by this, and need to patch this ssl layer."
