TEXTING AND DRIVING-

NAT SOUND: "ring"

CAN END YOU UP LIKE THIS GUY-WHO ADMITTED HE WAS TEXTING WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

SOT

Jennifer Cuenca, student

:11-:17 "Another person was texting and drove into the front of his truck. And his truck spun and hit a wall. "

JENNIFER CUENCA'S UNCLE NEARLY LOST HIS LIFE- WHEN A DRIVER WHO WAS TEXTING HIT HIM STRAIGHT ON.

Jennifer Cuenca, student

:57-1:01 "just a simple text message that could have waited another ten minutes. "

Forensics

7:13-7:17 "I'll be able to see pretty much everything on the phone, including deleted data."

AFTER SOME ONE IS INJURED IN A CRASH--- IT'S UP TO LAW ENFORCEMENT TO CHECK IF THE DRIVER WAS TEXTING.

Forensics

7:00-7:02 "and it will detect the phone."

AFTER CAPE CORAL POLICE GET A WARRANT TO SEARCH YOUR PHONE-- THEY RELAY ON THIS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY.

Jaclyn Fordham, CCPD Forensic Technician

17:44-17:59 "it defiantly show a sequence of events. If we can't pin point the exact time a crash happened we can at least show minutes leading up to the crash. There were text messages that were going back and forth, ones that were sent, possibly unread."

NBC 2 PUT THIS ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY TO THE TEST.

NAT SOUND: "Texting"

I STARTED BY TEXTING MY PRODUCER.

NAT SOUND: "plug in"

THEN THE FORENSIC TECH PLUGGED MY PHONE INTO THIS MACHINE.

NAT SOUND: "mouse"

AND IN JUST MINUTES--

19:00-19:06 4/11 at 11:21 am. Hey mike it's alex. This is just a test. "

19:17-19:21"It shows you the exact time I sent it. Correct. To the second. Yup."

SINCE THE STATE MADE TEXTING-AND-DRIVING ILLEGAL - CHARLOTTE COUNTY HAS ISSUED 4 TICKETS, COLLIER HAS ISSUED 11 AND IN LEE COUNTY 49.

MIAMI DADE COUNTY HAS THE MOST-AT 200.

Jennifer Cuenca, student

1:52-1:56 "don't do it while you're driving…"

CAPE POLICE'S TECHNOLOGY GIVES JENNIFER PEACE OF MIND-KNOWING THOSE TEXTING CAN BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

"… because you never know. Those two seconds you are looking down can kill someone. "
