WEATHER-WXWALL

It's been very nice Saturday so far across Southwest Florida, featuring a drop in humidity along with slightly cooler temperatures.

We'll keep a partly to mostly cloudy sky in the forecast tonight as winds continue to stay onshore, but winds will relax a bit more as we close out the evening.

We'll notice a nice cool down overnight, which will make for a very pleasant evening. Overnight lows will drop into the low to mid 60s along the coast and even as low as the upper 50s deeper inland.

If you're heading out early in the morning for a sunrise service, you may even need a light jacket with temperatures about 10 degrees cooler compared to our Saturday morning lows.

Easter Sunday is looking picture perfect for Southwest Florida with plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures and low humidity; expect a partly cloudy sky with highs only in the low 80s.

As we head into next week, our weather goes into cruise control with sunshine at the wheel; highs will be in the mid to upper 80s, and rain chances will stay very low for most of the week. Return to index of stories...

SUGGESTED INTRO:

Some of the nearly 5,700 runners who weren't able to complete last year's

Boston Marathon gathered Saturday at the Hynes Convention Center.

They've become a mini-community that formed in the weeks and months

following the weeks, and they're all running again.

SCRIPT:

"I cannot wait until Monday when I get to that 26-mile mark," one woman told

NewsCenter 5, noting it will be an emotional day.

The group was formed by Ginger Cross, who had her own nightmare experience

last April 15.

"I was actually running down Boylston Street when the explosions occurred,

and I was caught in between the two blasts," she said Saturday at the event.

She was only feet from finishing her first Boston Marathon, and was almost

struck by the second bomb.

"The second explosion happened right immediately to my left, and I felt the

blast, and I felt the debris, and I ran up the road at that point," Cross

said. "That was one of the reasons that I started this Facebook group. I

actually felt a lot of guilt for being so angry that I couldn't finish.

Because people were killed, people were injured."

Over the last 12 months, that community has grown close via social media.

Many of them are meeting face-to-face for the first time this weekend.

"You earned the right, and I'm so glad you're all back," Boston Marathon

race director Dave McGillivray told the group. "This is going to be the

safest place on the planet on Monday, trust me."

McGillivray also shared his own experience of the tragic events. His 7-year-

old son Luke witnessed the first blast from the stands at the finish line.

At first, he asked his dad never to direct the race again.

But, as McGillivray tells it, when Luke saw the way this city rallied, he

changed his mind.

"About two months later, he comes up to me, and he gives me another hug, and

he says, 'Dad, remember I told you I never want you to direct that race

again?' I said, 'Yeah, Luke.' He said, 'Do you know why?' I said, 'Why?' He

said, 'Because I want to direct it.'"

McGillivray and race officials extended invitations to the runners who weren

't able to finish the race last year. Return to index of stories...
