MONTHS POURED INTO THE DECIDING DAY OF APRIL 22ND.

INCLUDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND NASTY WORDS.

kreegel - "what's said about most of the people in this race, my self and the opponents what's said in the commericals, most of it's not true.

clawson: from there - the campagin just got tougher and tougher for everybody involved and more expensive and it's turned some people off.

WORDS FROM ALL FOUR CANDIDATES - WILL DEFINITELY BE A FACTOR IN WHO THE PUBLIC PICKS.

BUT STILL THEY ALL HAVE SIMILAR VIEWS.

EACH DISTRICT 19 CANDIDATE BEING VERY VOCAL ABOUT WHAT THEY'LL FIGHT FOR IF THEY MAKE IT TO WASHINGTON.

lizbeth - " in terms of sharing who we are speaking about me being a prolife candidate is valuable and you'd be surprised how many folks asked about it when you go door to door.

ALEOZO'S WIFE MANAGED TO ESCAPE TO A NEIGHBOR'S HOME AND CALL 911.

HIS WIFE CLAIMS HE HAD BEEN DRINKING ALL DAY BEFORE THE FIGHT.

BOSTON MARATHON-OC

THE FIRST RUNNING OF THE BOSTON MARATHON SINCE THE DEADLY ATTACK, IS TOMORROW.

THIS YEAR PROMISES TO HAVE MORE RUNNERS THAN LAST YEAR, AND MORE SPECTATORS THAN EVER BEFORE.

BUT IT WILL ALSO HAVE NEW SECURITY RESTRICTIONS.

SCOTT THOMPSON TAKES AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE RACE. Return to index of stories...

BOSTON MARATHON-PKG

THE DAY BEGAN WITH A TRADITIONAL BLESSING FOR RUNNERS AT BOSTON'S OLD SOUTH CHURCH THIS EASTER SUNDAY.

ALTHOUGH THIS BLESSING HAPPENS ANNUALLY-- IT HAS SPECIAL MEANING THIS YEAR. MONDAY'S RACE IS THE FIRST SINCE THE DEADLY BOMBINGS THAT KILLED THREE AND INJURED OVER 200 OTHERS.

MEMBERS OF THE CHURCH MADE THESE BLUE AND GOLD SCARVES AND HANDED THEM OUT TO RUNNERS TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT.

these scarves are interwoven with love and courage.

THE FOCUS NOW SHIFTS TO MARATHON MONDAY. IT WILL BE DIFFERENT THIS YEAR. SECURITY WILL BE TIGHTER THAN EVER.

POLICE HAVE DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF OFFICERS ON THE STREETS-- MANY SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CROWDS.

NEW RULES ARE ALSO IN PLACE. AMONG THEM--

NO SIGNS OR BANNERS BIGGER THAN 11 INCHES BY 17 INCHES

NO BACK PACKS OF ANY KIND AND UNREGISTERED RUNNERS HOPING TO JOIN THE RACE ARE PROHIBITED.

this is going to be the safest place on the planet on monday.

JUST LAST WEEK-- AS THE CITY CAME TOGETHER TO MARK THE ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE ATTACK-- TWO SUSPICIOUS BAGS WERE FOUND AT THE FINISH LINE.

THE BOMB SQUAD WAS CALLED IN TO DESTROY THE BAGS. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A HOAX BUT SERVED AS AN ERRIE REMINDER FOR A CITY THAT IS ALREADY ON EDGE.

I'M SCOTT THOMPSON REPORTING. Return to index of stories...

CHRISTIAN PARK UNVEILING-OC

IT'S A CONTROVERSIAL PROJECT THAT'S BEEN IN THE MAKING FOR YEARS.

TODAY, THE CAPE CORAL CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CHURCH UNVEILED A NEW STATE OF THE ART PARK.

BUT NOT EVERYONE'S EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW ADDITION.

A-B-C-7'S LINDSEY FRY BREAKS DOWN BOTH SIDES. Return to index of stories...

CHRISTIAN PARK UNVEILING-PKG

IT'S BEEN A MASSIVE UNDERTAKING.

TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING -

AND ON EASTER SUNDAY, CAPE CORAL HAS A BRAND NEW STATE OF THE ART PARK.

SOT-Chad Woolf-pastor

"It's a gift from our family to the families of the city. It's open

just like any city park so we just wan to encourage people to come out

and take advantage of it--enjoy it.

SWINGS AND JUNGLE GYMS SPAN THE 5 ACRES- WITH CHILDREN OF ALL AGES TRYING OUT

THE NEW TOYS.

SOT-GEORGIA WADELL

"I think it's phenomenal! My family and I have been waiting a long

time so that we could go and enjoy the park."

WHILE IT MAY MEET THE APPROVAL OF THESE SMILING FACES, NOT EVERYONE IS

SHARING IN THE JOY. During its planning, THE PROJECT FACED HARD OPPOSITION FROM SOME neighbors- LIKE BILL TIRELLI.

SOT-Bill Tirelli

"My big concern is losing quality of life, because the park is going

to be rented out on occasions so that means you're going to have

bands, you're going to have noise, and you're going to have a lot of

traffic."

A concern--even those who support the park say, they understand.

SOT-DENA

"I mean you know you have your noise and you have your traffic so I

respect their opinions. It doesn't surprise me."

In addition to the play areas and picnic tables, the church also

wanted to put an amphitheater in the park. A request that was turned

down.after neighbors protested.

Nats of kids playing

Neighbors say while they don't mind the sound of children playing,

they tell me this is too much to bear.

"Well I know I'll

Probably never see anything like that again. So, it was very cool and

I felt bad for the bird at the same time."

Ty Russell/ Fort Myers

14:15:00-14:15:08

"The large bird was sitting about 50 yards away in a nest when it took

flight. But then it didn't make it that far. It crashed into a tour

boat."

14:01:57-14:02:05

Glenn Smith/boat tour captain

"We heard this banging, screeching, and flopping around. We just

turned around and there it was just hanging upside down."

BOAT CAPTAIN GLENN SMITH HELPED SAVE THE WILD ANIMAL.

WORKERS USED A BOAT HOOK TO LIFT ITS CLAWS FROM THE TARP ON THIS FENCE.

THE FRIGHTENED OSPREY THEN WENT UNDERNEATH A BENCH ON THE BOAT UNTIL A

RESCUE GROUP SHOWED UP.

14:02:16-14:02:20

Glenn Smith/boat tour captain

"Hopefully, it'll take off from CROW and end up back here at the nest."

WORKERS WITH THE CLINIC FOR THE REHABILITATION OF WILDLIFE OR CROW ARE

CARING FOR THE OSPREY.

THEY TELL ME SOME OF THE BIRDS HAVE TROUBLE WITH HUNTING FISH.

SOME EVEN DIE BEFORE THEIR FIRST BIRTHDAY.

13:57:57-13:58:02

"they're getting ready to start flying. I guess this one was just a

little braver than some of the others."

WEATHER FORECAST-WXWALL

FULL WX

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

TRACKING MORE GREAT WEATHER

It was a somewhat cloudy, but dry and warm Easter Sunday across the area, with comfortable highs in the mid to upper 70s. Clouds will continue to partially clear this evening, with temps falling into the 60s. It will brisk again overnight tonight, with morning lows in the upper 50s to low 60s.

The great weather from the weekend continues into the work week. We'll see a heavy dose of sun during the daytime hours Monday, with highs in the low 80s.

A very weak disturbance will approach the area on Tuesday. The system will not produce rain, but will produce more cloud cover for Tuesday. Highs will be in the mid 80s.

The warming trend will continue into the middle part of the work week with partly cloudy skies on Wednesday and highs in the mid 80s. Expect mostly sunny skies Thursday, with temps holding in the mid 80s.

The heat and humidity will build back in by Friday, with a blend of sun & clouds and highs back in the upper 80s.

Right now, no major system is on the way for next weekend, but it will be warm & humid. A few scattered showers will also be possible, with the better rain chance being on Sunday. Return to index of stories...
