FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

It's been a much sunnier scenario so far today across Southwest Florida with dry weather through the first part of the day.

Look for that to change, however, as we go through the afternoon and evening. Pockets of rain will start to develop by the early to mid afternoon, particularly for areas close to I-75 and U.S. 41.

Later in the afternoon, more storms will form and build deeper inland, and this is where the highest rain chances will be during the afternoon and evening hours.

We still could see a few storms cells drift back toward the coast by the evening and into tonight, so we'll all be fair game for rain for the balance of this Tuesday.

Coastal showers will be possible late tonight into the pre-dawn hours on Wednesday, but the highest rain chances will continue to shift deeper inland by Wednesday afternoon.

We're in store for a pretty routine summer pattern from Thursday into the upcoming weekend, featuring morning sunshine and scattered storms during the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will top out in the low to mid 90s during the day and settling into the mid 70s at night.

In the tropics, there are no areas of concern at this time and development in not likely within the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

HAPPENING RIGHT NOW --

PEOPLE IN WASHINGTON STATE ARE BUYING MARIJUANA LEGALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME.

CUSTOMERS STARTED LINING SEVERAL SEVERAL STREETS IN SEATTLE --

AS EARLY AS MONDAY AFTERNOON.

WASHINGTON BECOMES THE SECOND STATE TO SELL MARIJUANA FOR RECREATIONAL USE.

COLORADO WAS THE FIRST.

BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The first legal sales of recreational marijuana in Washington state have begun. Eager customers bought pot at 8 a.m., local time, at Bellingham's Top Shelf Cannabis, one of two stores in the city north of Seattle that started selling marijuana as soon as was allowed under state regulations. Washington became the second state in the U.S. to allow the sale of recreational pot. Colorado began sales Jan. 1.

In Seattle's SoDo neighborhood, Cannabis City is getting ready to open at

noon -- that store is the only one that will be selling legal pot in Seattle

today.

SCRIPT:

A line started to form at 3 p.m. Monday when a 65-year-old retiree named Deb

Greene showed up with a chair, sleeping bag, food, water and a 930-page

book.

"I voted for it, and I'm just so excited to see it come to be in my lifetime

," she said. "I'm not a heavy user, I'm just proud of our state for giving

this a try."

Cannabis City is expecting between 2,000 and 5,000 people here on Tuesday.

"It is definitely exciting and an iconic event," says store manager Amber

McGowan "It's a big deal for Seattle, and it's definitely a big deal for us.

"

Security personnel will be present at the store to check customers' IDs.

They must be 21 or over to purchase pot.

Patrons can buy up to an ounce for $350, but most people will likely buy a

gram, which is the size of a quarter, for $20.

The start of legal pot sales in Washington marks a major step that's been 20

months in the making.

Washington and Colorado stunned much of the world by voting in November 2012

to legalize marijuana for adults over 21, and to create state-licensed

systems for growing, selling and taxing the pot. Sales began in Colorado on

Jan. 1. Return to index of stories...

FORT LAUDERDALE WILL SOON HAVE A NEW TRAIN STATION TO SHUTTLE PASSENGERS TO AND FROM ORLANDO.

THIS MORNING - LEADERS UNVEILED THE DESIGNS FOR THE STATE OF THE ART TRAIN STATION.

PROJECT OFFICIALS SAY THE "ALL ABOARD FLORIDA" TRAINS WILL CONNECT SOUTH FLORIDA TO MAJOR DESTINATIONS IN CENTRAL FLORIDA.

THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BRING NEW JOBS TO SOUTH FLORIDA AND HAVE 334-MILLION DOLLAR IMPACT TO THE AREA.

THE STATION SHOULD OPEN IN 2016.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -

On Tuesday, All Aboard Florida unveiled the designs for its Fort Lauderdale station, where state-of-the-art trains will take passengers to and from Orlando.

"The ultimate vision for this system is it's going to be able to connect all of the major destinations to the South Florida market," said Mike Reininger, president and chief development officer of All Aboard Florida.

The $30 million project is something local leaders say will boost the economy.

Quick Clicks

All Aboard Florida unveils designs for Miami station

"This new station will mean $333 million in economic impact and 800 jobs in Broward County," said Barbara Sharief, mayor of Broward County. "This is an amazing project for us."

But with every major project, there are always concerned citizens. In this case, some worry that the new transit system will make traffic worse, with extra bridge and crossing gate closures.

"If this is done right this is going to work better for them," said Jack Seiler, mayor of Fort Lauderdale. "If this is done right, there is going to be less time with the bridge down."

"That's why the investment is of the magnitude that it really is," said Reininger. "Specifically to address the concerns that would otherwise exist had it not been for the improvements going into the system."

The Fort Lauderdale station will be located on Northwest Second Avenue between Broward Boulevard and Fourth Street. It is expected to open to passengers in 2016. Return to index of stories...

THE CONVENTION IS EXPECTED TO COST AROUND 60-MILLION DOLLARS.

WASHINGTON - A Republican National Committee panel is recommending Cleveland to host the party's 2016 presidential convention.

The Republicans' site selection committee on Tuesday reviewed bids from Cleveland and Dallas. Both cities went into Tuesday's final session as strong contenders and with loyal advocates.

The full 168-member RNC is expected to ratify the choice next month.

Paying for the convention was the top criterion for the 12-member site selection committee. The previous two GOP conventions have sapped party dollars during election years, and party Chairman Reince Priebus has insisted the host city not leave the central party picking up the tab, which is expected to be around $60 million.

THREE MEN IN GEORGIA MADE A *CLEAN* GETAWAY AFTER THEY STOLE NEARLY TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF SOAP PRODUCTS.

SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS CAUGHT THE MEN AT A C-V-S LAST WEEK.

OFFICERS SAY THEY TOOK PERSONAL HYGIENE ITEMS SUCH AS SOAP AND TOOTHPASTE.

THE MEN WALKED RIGHT PAST CASHIERS AND OUT THE DOOR.

BOTH MEN ARE STILL ON THE RUN.

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -

Sandy Springs police say three men stole nearly $2,000 in soap and other personal care items from a CVS store and then made a clean getaway.

Surveillance cameras caught images of the men July 1 at the store on Roswell Road.

"They just walked in the store and casually grabbed as much personal care items, tooth paste, soap, items like that," said Sgt. Ron Momon with the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Momon said the men simply walked out of the store past cashiers.

"Someone saw them walking out, but I'm sure they didn't want to confront three guys walking out with items," Momon told Channel 2's Mike Petchenik.

Customers told Petchenik they were surprised to hear of the bizarre theft.

"My first guess would be, they're taking care of a lot of people?" wondered Memri Lerch. "There are so many jokes."

Customer Chris Lusted told Petchenik he wondered if the men were clean freaks.

"I guess they were dirty and needed a shower," he said.

Either way, police said they wanted to catch up with the men to find out why they took the products.

"I'd really like to know myself what they did with these items," Momon said. Return to index of stories...

TEENS RESCUE PADDLE BOARDER-VOWIPE

THREE YOUNG GIRLS SAY A C-P-R CLASS HELPED THEM SAVE THE LIFE OF A PADDLE BOARDER.

IT HAPPENED IN KIRKLAND WASHINGTON.

THE GIRLS SAW A MAN ABOUT 50-YARDS OUT IN THE WATER -- FLOATING FACE DOWN.

THEY SWAM OUT TO THE UNCONSCIOUS PADDLE BOARDER AND RESCUED HIM.

ONCE THEY GOT HIM TO SHORE THEY IMMEDIATELY STARTED C-P-R.

Information:

Three teenage girls saw a paddle boarder floating face down in Lake

Washington, jumped in and swam to him and brought him to land, where another

teenage girl administered CPR and helped save his life.

The 17-year-old girls, who attend Lake Washington High School, say the CPR

they learned in health class played a big role in their heroic action saving

a drowning man near Kirkland.

The incident happened at about 4 p.m. near Kirkland's Settler's Landing Park

, the Fire Department said, when three high school girls - Jessie Page, Zoe

Farrell, Alexis Koester and Erica Stewart - noticed a paddle board about 50

yards off shore and a man floating face down in the water near it.

They risked embarrassment and swam over to poke the man near it. The man was

unconscious but coughed a little so they knew he was alive. They quickly

pushed his board to shore where other friends helped get him on the dock.

That's where Stewart was on the phone with 911 and she knew, though, that

she needed to act quickly so she started administering CPR.

Stewart says she could tell he had family from the ring on his hand and just

wanted to get him home to them safely. When asked where she learned CPR her

response was Mr. Minky. Return to index of stories...

could have done more but we did everything we could."
