530AM~STORMWARN FORECAST-WX CTR TO WX WALL

Little overall changes are expected Wednesday.

Another round of showers and strong storms will begin to develop later on in the afternoon.

The strongest of storms will be primarily inland, south of Lake Okeechobee.

Heavy downpours, small hail and deadly lightning will all accompany those storms.

Can't rule out completely a few isolated showers making their way back towards the coastline before things wrap up into the evening.

Highs this afternoon appear to be on course for the normal.

Many of us will top out in the low 90s Wednesday. With plenty of moisture in place, the feel like temperature will be in the upper 90s.

Showers wind down halfway through the night and clouds thin out before waking up Thursday morning. Overnight lows are forecast to be near seasonal values - hanging in the mid to low 70s.

The remainder of the week will be a very typical summer pattern. Showers and storms in the afternoon with highs staying in the lows 90s. A bit of dry air pushes in Friday helping reduce rain chances a bit. Still mentioning rain Friday just not as widespread. Return to index of stories...

STORMWARN FORECAST-WX WALL

SCATTERED DOWNPOURS TODAY

Steering winds will be from the south-southwest again today, leading to a similar setup to what we had yesterday. There will be a few showers, even a couple of storms, along the coastline early this morning. More activity will develop as we go through the morning to midday time frame. As we go from midday toward afternoon, the rain will shift from the coast to the inland areas. Then into the evening some of the lingering shower and storm activity could come back toward the highway 41 corridor. Highs this afternoon will be held in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees with plenty of cloud cover along with the downpours.

For tomorrow, we'll see another day of scattered storms that could once again get that early start. Then for the later part of the week, there will be a few scattered afternoon storms each day. That will actually be a bit more like our typical rainy season pattern. Highs through the week will rebound into the low 90s, which is pretty seasonal for Southwest Florida.

In the tropics, there are no areas of concern at this time and development in not likely within the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

STORMS MOVED THROUGH PARTS OF THE COUNTRY LAST NIGHT RESULTING IN DOZENS OF FLIGHT DELAYS.

A FRONTIER FLIGHT FROM WASHINGTON TO DENVER WAS FORCED TO LAND IN CHEYENNE.

THE PILOT DECIDED. WHILE THEY WERE WAITING ON THE GROUND FOR TWO HOURS. TO CALL UP DOMINOES. AND FEED ALL 160 PEOPLE ON BOARD.

IT TOOK 50 PIZZAS TO FEED THE WHOLE PLANE! THE PILOT PAID WITH HIS CREDIT CARD.

AND AROUND TEN THIRTY.THE PLANE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO TAKE OFF.

DENVER - Monday night's storms delayed dozens of flights and probably angered many travelers. But some passengers on a Frontier Airlines flight were treated to dinner from the pilot.

A plane bound for the Mile High City from Washington, D.C's Reagan National Airport Monday night was diverted after thunderstorms and lightning pummeled the Denver area.

Frontier flight 719 was headed to Denver at 6:40 p.m. Eastern Time, when severe thunderstorms forced the plane to divert to southern Wyoming, according to flightaware.com.

Passengers and crew waited in Cheyenne, Wyo. until the storms passed, and they were able to take off for Denver, several hours later.

Perhaps the captain of the Airbus A320 aircraft decided it would be best to not have a "hangry" group of passengers, or maybe he was hungry himself.

Either way, a passenger onboard the flight sent 9NEWS a photo of crew handing out pizza to people on the plane.

The newstipper says the pilot bought more than 50 pizzas on his own tab to feed them as they waited on the tarmac for departure.

With full stomachs, the passengers and crew left Cheyenne about 10:30 p.m. and arrived in Denver a short while later at 10:45 p.m., according to flight tracking information on flightaware.com. Return to index of stories...
