Our typical July weather continues across southwest Florida. For the next several days we will be tracking hot and humid weather with afternoon thunderstorms each day. Overnight lows will drop to the mid 70's and daytime highs will be in the lower 90's. Again - pretty typical weather for July. As we saw today, some areas of southwest Florida will end up with very heavy rain on the order of an inch or more while other places stay dry. The scattered/isolated nature of thunderstorm development this time of year will be very evident through the weekend.

Boating weather looks pretty good through the 7 day forecast period. In general, skies will be partly cloudy and afternoon storms will tend to drift back toward the beaches toward sunset. Winds will be fairly light during the day and an afternoon sea breeze will set up. The Gulf of Mexico water temperature is at 87 degrees today.

The tropics remain quiet and no storms are expected to develop for the next 5 to 7 days. Return to index of stories...

FL CHILD LEFT IN HOT CAR-VO

A FLORIDA TODDLER IS IN STABLE CONDITION.

AFTER BEING LEFT IN A HOT CAR FOR *FOUR* HOURS YESTERDAY MORNING.

THE TODDLER WAS FOUND AT HIS HOUSE IN YULEE.

THATS JUST NORTH OF JACKSONVILLE.

OFFICERS SAY HIS MOTHER FORGOT THE BOY WAS IN THE CAR -- AND WENT INSIDE TO TAKE A NAP.

TONIGHT -- THE TODDLER REMAINS IN THE HOSPITAL ON AN I-V.

THE MOTHER FACES CHARGES OF CHILD NEGLECT AND BODILY HARM.

YULEE, Fla. - An 18-month-old boy was hospitalized in stable condition after being left in a hot car for four hours Tuesday morning, according to Nassau County deputies.

The toddler was found in the car at a home on Hawthorne Court in Yulee about 10:30 a.m.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Sheriff's Office said the mother, 25-year-old Michelle King, was charged with child neglect without great bodily harm.

Deputies said the family of five left home Tuesday morning when King took the father to work. The couple has 18-month-old twins, one boy and one girl, and a 6-year-old boy.

Deputies said King arrived home at 6:30 a.m., went into the house with the 6-year-old and the twin girl, then went to sleep, forgetting about the twin boy.

"Sometime between 10 and 10:30, the 6-year-old comes out and was going to get something out of the vehicle, sees his brother in there, gets the brother out," said Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper.

King called 911.

The boy was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in non-life-threatening condition, even though his body temperature reached to about 103 degrees. He was given an IV.

Deputies and the Department of Children and Families were investigating.

This is the second case of a child left in a hot car in the area in just the last three days. And as the news spread Tuesday, Nassau County parents were stunned.

"I've never forgotten my kids, ever," said Trish Moore. "They're No. 1 on my mind, so how a good parent could , I don't know. It's unimaginable to me to leave your child in a car."

On Sunday, police said a woman left her 5-year-old daughter inside a car at the St. Johns Town Center. The girl is fine, but her mom is charged with neglect.

"That's something you don't forget," said Melissa Attaway. "I mean, do you forget to get in the car and crank up the car, turn on the AC. you forget your phone? Your purse? Your kids come first."

There have also been at least five other reported cases nationally since last Wednesday. And DCF officials said that trend has to stop.

"Thankfully today this child is going to be able to recover," said John Harrell, spokesman for DCF. "When you leave children in cars, their body temps go up tremendously, a dramatic increase in a matter of minutes."

King's children are in the custody of a family member, Harrell said, while DCF investigates whether there have been other incidents of neglect.

DCF wants to remind parents that in Florida, it only takes minutes for it to become unbearable inside a hot car.

"These hot cars in summer months turn into ovens and inhumane," Harrell said. "They've got to take time to look out for children. Make sure if you're putting kids in the car, take them all with you when you get out of the car."

an 18-month old from yulee is lucky to be alive tonight after a four hour ordeal in a hot car.

Channel 4's scott johnson joins us live from nassau county with details.

25 year old michelle king is being held here at the nassau county jail tonight - investigators say she forgot her toddler inside a hot car when she went inside to take a nap.

sheriff's deputies walk 25 year old Michelle King out of her yulee home for questioning. after they discover her 18-month old son was left in the family car. they later discovered that child had been in the car - for four hours.

SHERIFF BILL LEEPER/NASSAU COUNTY SHERIFF

2:55:10 ? went in the house and forgot about the son ? apparently went to sleep. Sometime between 10 and 1030. 6 year old came found ? gets brother out.

Michelle King found her son with a body temperature of 103-degrees. now she's being charged with child neglect. and the news spreading around nassau county is leaving parents stunned.

TRISH MOORE/PARENT

3:01:01 ? no, i've never forgotten, never. out of my mind how a good parent could. it's. unimaginable how a good parent could leave their child in a hot car.

MELISSA ATTAWAY

3:02:07 ? that's something you don't forget. I mean, do you forget to get in your car and crank up ac. your kids come first.

we stopped by the home where the other children were still inside. and no one wanted to answer the door.

the 18-month old who was trapped in the car will be ok. he was in stable condition at the hospital at last check. and sheriff leeper says it could have been a lot worse.

2:56:22 ? make sure they're safe. Don't leave them in hot car or someone could come and take the child. Or child could get heat stroke.

this is the second case of a child left in a hot car in our area in just the last three days. On sunday police say a woman left her 5 year old daughter inside a car at the st johns town center. The girl fine, but her mom is charged with neglect. There have also been five other reported cases nationally since last wednesday.

WILD -- OUT OF CONTROL SOCCER FANS -- AND THIS WASN'T EVEN A WORLD CUP GAME.

THE PROBLEMS BEGAN WHEN TWO BUSLOADS OF FANS ARRIVED AT AL LANG STADIUM --

MANY OF THEM - INTOXICATED.

DURING THE GAME - FIGHTS BROKE OUT BETWEEN BOTH TEAMS' FANS.

FIRE CREWS LATER RESPONDED AFTER SMOKE BOMBS WERE THROWN INTO THE STANDS.

FOUR PEOPLE WERE LATER ARRESTED AND ALMOST 20 WERE KICKED OUT.

ALL THIS EVEN WITH BEEFED UP SECURITY ON DUE TO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH ORLANDO FANS.

--EDITORIAL INFORMATION FROM BAY NEWS 9--

ST. PETERSBURG -- Four people were arrested and almost 20 were kicked out after a violent incident at Sunday's Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer game at Al Lang Stadium.

According to St. Petersburg police, firefighters were called to the stadium after a report of a fire in the stands during the game.

Police said problems began when two busloads of fans of the visiting team, Orlando City, arrived at the stadium. Officials said many of those fans were intoxicated.

Arguments and fights with Rowdies' fans followed. At some point, police said smoke bombs were set off in the stands.

Police said Orlando fan Charles Tolman hit an officer in the stomach with a team flag. Also, Stephen Marva faces battery on a law enforcement officer after he shoved a police officer to join a fight, authorities said.

Two other visiting fans also were arrested. There were no serious injuries reported.

According to Rowdies' owner Bill Edwards, extra security personnel were on hand Sunday because Orlando fans have caused problems in the past.

Edwards said his team won't play Orlando again until the fan base can behave better.

The Orlando City team said it had no official comment, but did say this was not a recurring event with fans.

Disney, which owns the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex where the Orlando City temporarily play, say they have not had any arrests, just complaints about language. Return to index of stories...

D-O-J INVESTIGATORS HAVE RELEASED A REPORT IN THE CASE OF A U-C SAN DIEGO STUDENT ABANDONED IN A D-E-A HOLDING CELL FOR DAYS WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER.

THE STUDENT SAYS HE NEARLY DIED WHILE BEING HELD ILLEGALLY.

That door never opened, I never got released.

NOW, A SUMMARIZED REPORT FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE SAYS FOUR AGENTS SAW OR HEARD 24-YEAR-OLD DANIEL CHONG IN THAT TIME, BUT DID NOTHING, ASSUMING HE WAS SOMEONE ELSE'S RESPONSIBILITY.

THE AGENTS AND A SUPERVISOR THEN FAILED TO PROPERLY REPORT AND INVESTIGATE THE MATTER.

WE WENT STRAIGHT TO CHONG'S ATTORNEY TO FIND OUT WHAT THIS MEANS.

A complete, a thorough and a fair investigation of this matter.

BUT HE ADDS - HE WANTS TO SEE THE *ENTIRE* REPORT.

What's also troubling is that we're only given a three page summary - and not given access to the entire report.

THE U-S-C-D STUDENT WAS ARRESTED IN APRIL 2012 AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE WHEN A D-E-A RAID FOUND DRUGS AND WEAPONS.

CHONG WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED AND NOT CHARGED.

BUT HE QUICKLY REALIZED IN HIS CELL - HE WAS FORGOTTEN.

VOHE DRANK HIS OWN URINE TO STAY HYDRATED, AND EVEN USED BROKEN GLASS TO CUT HIMSELF.

I was like - you're going to have a death on your hands if you don't let me out right now.

IN A 2013 SETTLEMENT, CHONG WAS AWARDED FOUR-POINT-ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

IREDALE ADDS - IT WAS AN ANONYMOUS TELEPHONE CALL THAT PROMOTED THIS INVESTIGATION.

By an anonymous caller.

Was it you?

It was not me. It was, I believe probably somebody within the agency who had that golden thing called a conscience. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER TEASE-WXWALL

AFTERNOON STORMS

The cyclist went through the cars windshield and was thrown into the middle of Joel Boulevard sustaining life threatening injuries. The victim was trauma alerted and flown aboard LeeFlight to Lee memorial Trauma Center. The Alva Fire Department, Lee County EMS and LCSO responded to the call. FL IMMIGRATION REFORM-VO-WIPE

A BIPARTISAN GROUP OF BUSINESS, FAITH AND UNIVERSITY LEADERS IS CALLING ON CONGRESS TO PASS AN IMMIGRATION REFORM PLAN.

THE GROUP RALLIED IN TALLAHASSE TODAY.

THEY SAY A NEW POLL SHOWS 85 PERCENT OF AMERICANS THINK THE IMMIGRATION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

BUT THEY REMAIN DIVIDED OVER THREE POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS--

DEPORTING ALL UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS--

GRANTING US CITIZENSHIP TO THOSE HERE ILLEGALLY--

OR ALLOWING LEGAL STATUS WITHOUT CITIZENSHIP.

Vo/Sot: IMMIGRATION REFORM SOUGHT: Groups including the Florida Chamber of Commerce and the Florida Conference of Catholic Bishops are expected to take part in a news conference calling for immigration reform.

A bipartisan coalition of Florida big business groups, faith and university leaders joined together Wednesday, calling on Congress to pass an immigration reform plan. Events like the one in Tallahassee were held across the country, with participants saying reform is good for business as well as compassionate toward those who entered America looking for a better life. The group used the news conference to release a new poll showing 85 percent of respondents think the immigration system in the United States needs fixing. However the survey also shows people are almost evenly divided on what the solution should be, between deporting all undocumented immigrants, granting US citizenship to those here illegally or allowing legal status without citizenship. University of Miami Professor Rudy Fernandez says Congress needs to listen to voters, and handle the issue one way or another.

Sot: Rudy Fernandez, Professor, University of Miami

"There is a majority of voters nationally, as indicated by the poll, who support immigration reform. We will win this debate and we will see Congressional action when that majority lets its voice be heard loudly in Washington DC, and calls their members of Congress and demands action."

During the 2014 legislative session, the Republican-dominated Florida Legislature passed a bill granting in-state tuition to some undocumented immigrants. GOP Governor Rick Scott signed the bill into law. Pointing to that, the coalition says they are confident broader reform can happen in Congress, as immigration is not a partisan issue. Nearly 50 percent of those polled think an immigration overhaul needs to happen this year.

AFTERNOON STORMS
