MORE AM STORMS FOR WEDNESDAY

It was a stormy start to the day across Southwest Florida, but a sun-filled finish with highs in the mid to upper 80s. An isolated shower will be possible this evening inland, otherwise expect dry conditions and temps in the 70s. We'll see overnight lows in the mid 70s.

More storms are expected for Wednesday. Once again, activity will build overnight in the Gulf of Mexico and push onshore in the morning hours. Rain and storms will be likely through much of the morning time frame, with the activity pushing inland in the early afternoon. Highs on Wednesday will be in the mid to upper 80s.

Another round of morning showers and storms will again be possible on Thursday. The activity will again push inland in the PM hours with highs in the low 90s.

Our winds begin to transition back to the east on Friday, bringing a better chance for storms later in the day. Highs on Friday will be in the low 90s.

The more typical AM sunshine-PM storms routine kicks into high gear for the weekend, with highs both days in the low 90s.

There are some indications that tropical moisture may move in early next week, which would increase the rain and storm chances across Southwest Florida.

TROPICAL UPDATE

It is still nice and quiet across the tropics today. Some forecast models are indicating the atmosphere becoming more conducive for development, but no major development is expected at this point.

No major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

CAR THEFT SUSPECTS WANTED-SSTOPS

LEE COUNTY DEPUTIES HOPE YOU CAN HELP THEM FIND THESE MEN --

RESPONSIBLE FOR A SERIES OF CAR BURGLARIES IN LEE COUNTY LAST WEEK.

THE OWNER RELEASED THESE PHOTOS TODAY.

POLICE SAY THE MEN IN THEIR 20S BROKE INTO CARS AND STOLE VALUABLES.

THEY THINK THEY'RE NOW DRIVNG A LIGHT COLORED CHRYSLER SEDAN.

IF YOU RECOGNIZE AND OF THESE MEN, CALL CRIMESTOPPERS.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help identifying at least two young men believed to be responsible for a series of car burglaries in south Lee County last week.

According to deputies, several unlocked cars were targeted by thieves during the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 9. In one instance, a home video surveillance system captured images of two white males breaking into a victims unlocked car on Beaulieu Court. Around 3:40 a.m., the men opened the drivers side door and rummaged through the vehicle for any valuables. A few hours later, a neighbor told the victim that he found her registration papers, insurance card and owners manual for her Jeep in his yard - items which were apparently tossed by the men after entering her car. After canvassing the neighborhood, deputies discovered that multiple unlocked cars had been tampered with in some fashion in that same neighborhood during the late night/early morning hours of July 9.

Surveillance cameras captured images of the suspects, who are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. One suspect was wearing glasses and another had what appeared to be a tattoo on his right forearm. The men may have been driving a light colored four door sedan, possibly a Chrysler 300.

"Historically, July and August are the top two months for auto thefts nationwide," said Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers Coordinator. "In the majority of cases, the victims are making themselves easy prey but simply not locking their doors. The individuals perpetrating these crimes are typically targeting neighborhoods and are checking if cars are locked. If they are, they typically move on to the next car, and have great success getting electronics, wallets and other valuables left in plain sight. We encourage car owners to take a moment after they park their vehicle and check it for anything of value and to press the lock button after they shut the door. That one simple step can make all the difference in whether or not you become a victim of a crime."

July has been designated as National Vehicle Theft Awareness Month by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association, and law enforcement agencies throughout Southwest Florida are making an extra push to educate car owners on how to best protect themselves and their property.

Anyone with information on the young men responsible for last week's break-ins in south Fort Myers are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES Keyword: REWARD. WEATHER RECAP-WXGRX
