FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

The storms will get a later start compared to yesterday, but plan on another round of showers and storms over Southwest Florida as we travel through this Wednesday afternoon.

As we often see this time of year, a few of today's storms may be intense with frequent cloud to ground lightning, torrential rain, and gusty winds.

Rainfall totals could easily reach 2-3 inches in the areas that get caught under one of the bigger downpours.

Before the stormy weather starts to build in, temperatures will peak in the low to mid 90s for most of the area.

Looking ahead toward the end of the week and into the weekend, the coverage of afternoon storms will decrease to around 30% and highs will be in the lower 90s.

SUGGESTED INTRO:

Tuesday afternoon, the suspect, standing 6-feet-4 inches and weighing 350

pounds, pulled the officer into his car and stepped on the gas.

From dash cam video, the officer can be seen being dragged a few feet before

struggling to get back on his feet.

It all started when the officer saw the suspect blowing through a stop sign.

At first, the traffic stop went smoothly when the suspect pulled over, but

minutes later, the situation escalated into violence.

"The officer was going to place him under arrest," said Warren Commissioner

Jere Green. "He actually doubled his cuffs up because the guy was so big

and he attempted to put cuffs on and the guy started to fight him."

The chase then started down Van Dyke.

In the dash cam video, smoke can be seen where the suspect's Honda Civic

clipped another car driven by a man on his way back from his lunch break.

The Honda got stuck for a moment, but the vehicle broke free and the chase

was back on.

The suspect led the same officer down side streets and slammed into parked

cars. Eventually, he drove into an alley.

"The officer gets out, the bad guy puts the car in reverse, accelerates, and

goes toward the officer and the scout car," said Commissioner Green. "The

officer fires three shots at that point from his duty weapon."

The suspect was shot twice but managed to take off in his car again. He

eventually came to a stop a short time later on Veach and Stockton on

Detroit's west side.

It was there the man was taken into custody and rushed to the hospital.

According to Warren Police, officers found wads of cash and a lot of drugs

inside the suspect's car.

The officer is now in the hospital with a back injury. He will be

temporarily placed on paid leave while he recovers. Return to index of stories...

SKYFOX FLIES ABOVE THE LORAIN COUNTY LANDFILL IN NEW RUSSIA TOWNSHIP NEAR OBERLIN IN LORAIN COUNTY.

THIS IS WHERE A WORKER DISCOVERED THE BODY OF 22-YEAR OLD CORY BARRON OF FREMONT AROUND ONE O'CLOCK TUESDAY AFTERNOON, JUST AFTER A TRUCK HAD DELIVERED A LOAD.

SHERIFF'S DEPUTIES WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE.

"They were able to talk to the truck driver and the facility manager and determine where the truck came from, the current truck that was there, the load came from the Cleveland area

THE BODY MATCHED CORY'S DESCRIPTION.

OFFICIALS SAY HIS CONCERT TICKET AND IDENTIFICATION WERE FOUND WITH HIM.

CORY WAS LAST SEEN AT THE JASON ALDEAN CONCERT AT PROGRESSIVE FIELD FRIDAY NIGHT.

SINCE THEN, FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND POLICE HAD BEEN SEARCHING FOR HIM.

"When it appeared at the beginning that it fit the description, we immediately contacted Cleveland and advised them what they had, so they sent detectives out here right away."

CLEVELAND POLICE ALSO SENT DETECTIVES BACK TO PROGRESSIVE FIELD TUESDAY WHERE THEY HAD ALREADY CONDUCTED THREE SEARCHES FOR CORY.

AFTER TUESDAY'S DEVELOPMENTS, THEY NOW BELIEVE CORY MAY HAVE FALLEN DOWN A TRASH CHUTE INTO A DUMPSTER.

THE CONTENTS INSIDE WERE LATER TAKEN TO THE LANDFILL.

"There's a chute that goes from the top all the way to the bottom, so it's quite a ways down, like five or six stories."

POLICE SAY CORY WAS SITTING IN THE UPPER SECTION OF THE STADIUM.

"I'm not gonna speculate at this point, looks like he could have fallen into the dumpster or crawled in there or something, you know, it's still under investigation."

THE INDIANS RELEASED A STATEMENT WHICH READS: "THE CLEVELAND INDIANS ARE SADDENED BY THE NEWS OF CORY BARRON'S UNTIMELY DEATH AND WISH TO EXTEND THEIR SINCERE CONDOLENCES TO THE BARRON FAMILY AND FRIENDS. WE ARE COOPERATING WITH THE AUTHORITIES IN THEIR INVESTIGATION AND DO NOT HAVE ADDITIONAL COMMENT AT THIS TIME."

AND TUESDAY EVENING, JASON ALDEAN HIMSELF TWEETED."MY SINCERE CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO CORY BARRON'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS. MY HEART IS HEAVY FOR YOU ALL AND YOU ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS."

SOT Erica Elson 00:36:05: If you say no 3 times to everything that they've said then they'll be like "ok this person is just not having it I will let

them go"

SO HOW DO YOU STOP THOSE UNWANTED CALLS FROM GETTING THROUGH? ELSON WHO

WORKED FOR A TELEMARKETER FOR TWO YEARS SAYS CUTTING THE CORD IS SIMPLE.

AS LONG AS YOU KNOW WHAT *NOT* TO DO.

TIP 1: DON'T JUST HANG UP. IGNORING A CALL OR SLAMMING DOWN THAT PHONE MID-

CONVERSATION WILL LAND YOUR NAME RIGHT BACK ON THE CALL LIST.

TIP 2: DON'T ENGAGE THE TELEMARKETER IN CONVERSATION, NOT EVEN TO EXPLAIN

WHY YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED. ANY CONVERSATION OPENS THE DOOR TO ANOTHER SALES

PITCH.

AND NEVER TELL THEM TO CALL YOU BACK LATER.THEY WILL.

SOT Erica Elson 00:38:18 Even if you say something like I'm in the middle

of dinner, that means "oh I shouldn't call at 6pm so I'll try them in the

morning"

NEEDS GFX @ 1:14 - 1:27

SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? KEEP CALM AND SAY THIS MAGIC PHRASE: Please add my

name to your "Do Not Call" list.

AND - TAKE IT A STEP FURTHER - GO ONLINE AND ADD YOUR NAME TO THE NATIONAL

DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.

ONCE YOU'RE ON THE LIST, IT'S ILLEGAL FOR COMPANIES TO CALL YOU.

SOT Erica Elson 00:46:19 There's a fine line between being rude and being

too friendly. You just want to remain polite but not reveal any personal

information.

STORY | -- President Barack Obama arrived in San Francisco

Tuesday evening, beginning the first leg of a West Coast swing that will

bring him to Los Angeles Wednesday.

The president is set to attend a fundraiser at the home of Shonda Rhimes,

creator and executive producer of the hit show, "Scandal."

Posters have popped up in Rhimes' Hancock Park neighborhood featuring the

president's face under a headline reading "SCANDALS." A line on the bottom

says "DON'T BE AN" then has a hashtag and an expletive.

Kerry Washington stars in the television show as the head of a Washington

public relations firm that manages scandals. The artwork is also plastered

across bus benches. It appears to be the work of a street artist making a

statement about political scandals involving the White House.

President Barack Obama has made numerous trips to Southern California to

attend fundraisers, several of the gatherings hosted by celebrities.

Many Hancock Park residents say they aren't sure what the posters mean.

President Barack Obama will spend two days in the L.A. area. In addition to

attending fundraisers, the president will visit the Los Angeles Trade-

Technical College. Return to index of stories...

IT CAN USUALLY BE PRETTY EASY TO TELL WHEN SOMEONE'S HAPPY OR SAD --

JUST BY LOOKING AT THEM.

know what their face looks like in general when they're sad. What about when

they're both happy and sad?"

SCRIPT:

IT'S A FUNNY THING -- EMOTION. YOUR FACE SOMETIMES GIVING YOU AWAY

WITHOUT YOU EVEN REALIZING IT.

BUT IT'S THAT EXACT REACTION THESE U-T RESEARCH STUDENTS ARE HOPING FOR.

. STUDYING HOW POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE EMOTIONS ARE EXPRESSED ON THE FACE.

TEST SUBJECTS WATCH A NUMBER OF SHORT VIDEOS -- ALL OF WHICH CONTAIN SOME

SORT OF A BITTERSWEET SCENE.

RATING THEIR OWN HAPPINESS AND SADNESS THROUGHOUT. THEIR FACIAL

EXPRESSIONS ARE RECORDED ON VIDEO. THEN ANALYZED BY FACE-READING SOFTWARE.

.

"As your experience of sadness goes up, do you express more sadness in your

face?"

THEY EVALUATE EVERY SECOND OF THE 80 TEST SUBJECTS EXPERIENCES --

INCLUDING MY OWN -- FOR THE SIX BASIC EMOTIONS -- HAPPY. SAD. ANGRY.

SURPRISED.

"Here it looks like there's a little bit of happiness that's coming up and

now it's gone again. Looks like maybe a little bit of surprise there."

THE WHOLE PURPOSE IS TO GET A BASELINE OF HOW AVERAGE PEOPLE DISPLAY

EMOTION -- PARTICULARLY MIXED EMOTION.

Kelly Moran | UT Research Student

"Sometimes when participants are feeling mixed emotions, their facial

expression might correlate less strongly with their experience."

THE STUDY'S RESULTS WILL BE USED TO BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE WITH

PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS FEEL -- AND EXPRESS THOSE FEELINGS.

"They don't experience emotions the way other people do. So in order to

understand that dysfunction, we need to understand how typical people

experience emotions."

"We can begin to understand the disorder and hopefully how to better treat

them."

Crist leads Scott by a margin of 45 percent to 40 percent in a head-to-head contest, down from a 10-point advantage in April, according to the Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. The race is even tighter when Libertarian candidate Adrian Wyllie is added to the mix. In a three-way contest, Crist leads with 39 percent, while Scott gets 37 percent and Wyllie 9 percent. THAT EXTRA CHARGE ON YOUR PROPERY AND AUTO INSUARNCE --

THAT HELPS COVER CLAIMS FOR PREVIOUS HURRICANE SEASONS -

WILL SOON BE A THING OF THE PAST.

THE OFFICE OF INSURANCE REGUALTION FORMALLY ISSUED THE ORDER.

SAYING THE STATE-RUN FLORIDA HURRICANE CATASTROPHE FUND WILL END

THE ASSESSMENT FIRST APPEARED AT ONE PERCENT IN 2007 AND WAS RAISED TO THE CURRENT RATE IN 20-11.

THE CHANGE WILL TAKE AFFECT BY THE BEGINNING OF 20-15.

An extra charge on property and auto insurance policies to cover claims paid for the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons will end January first. The Office of Insurance Regulation formally issued orders this week for insurance companies to move up by 18 months the end of a 1.3 percent "emergency assessment" for the state-run Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund, which provides backup coverage to insurers. The assessment has hit policyholders for 2.9 billion dollars, which has gone to reimburse insurance companies for claims from the eight hurricanes that hit Florida in 2004 and 2005, the last time a hurricane made landfall in Florida.

The assessment, which first appeared at one percent in 2007 and was raised to the current rate in 2011, collectively hits policyholders for between 350 million and 500 million dollars a year. In addition to the state's near-decade luck at avoiding hurricanes, the early termination is due to claims for Hurricane Wilma coming in almost half a billion dollars less than what had initially been thought. BARRACUDA ATTACK-PKG

"I was on the side of the boat fishing probably right there."

IT WAS A SUNDAY AFTERNOON FISHING TRIP FOR IRWIN KING AND HIS 13 YEAR OLD SON PARKER.

ABOUT 19 MILES FROM LAND.THEY SPOT A BARRACUDA LIKE THIS ONE.

"We seen him and he was big.like 'this should be a fun little fight'.but it wasnt, it wasn't."

THAT FIGHT TURNED INTO A FIGHT FOR PARKER'S LIFE.

"Within a split second he just went from there to up over the boat and just nailed him right here."

NAILED THE TEENAGER SO HARD.THIS IS PARKER NOW.

BUT GETTING HIM INTO THIS HOSPITAL BED.WAS THE CHALLENGE.

REMEMBER, THEY ARE CLOSE TO 20 MILES AWAY FROM LAND.

AND WITH NO PHONE RECEPTION, IT WAS A RACE TO GET HELP.

THE BARRACUDA.STILL IN TOW.

"Hes still flopping in the back of the boat started going, just heading.I mean it was a bouncy ride. And I really didn't care. I didn't care if parts were flying off the boat or anything. I just wanted to get him in.

PARKER HAD A TOWEL WRAPPED AROUND HIS ARM AND CHEST FOR THE RIDE.

"I was praying he wasn't going to run out of blood."

NOW, STAPLES AND STITCHES LATER, PARKER IS OUT OF THE HOSPITAL AND RECOVERING FROM A FIGHT.

"The fish won on that one, you know, he got us. He got Parker."

THAT NEARLY COST HIM HIS LIFE.

"He was a champ, I mean.he was a champ." Return to index of stories...

CHILDHOOD OBESITY-OTS VO

CAN A CHILD BE OVERWEIGHT - EVEN OBESE -- AND NOT KNOW IT?

THAT'S WHAT A NEW REPORT FROM THE C-D-C IS SAYING.

NEARLY 1 IN 5 AMERICAN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS ARE OVERWEIGHT.

YET TODAY -- MOST ARE NOT EVEN AWARE.

THE C-D-C REPORT SHOWS THAT 80 PERCENT OF OVERWEIGHT BOYS THOUGHT THEY WERE AT ABOUT THE RIGHT WEIGHT.

FOR GIRLS -- NOT MUCH BETTER -- 71 PERCENT DIDN'T REALIZE THEY WERE OVERWEIGHT.

FOR PARENTS THIS COULD BE A WAKE-UP.

THE C-D-C IS URGING PARENTS TO TALK TO YOUR CHILD'S DOCTOR -- AND FIND OUT THE APPROPRIATE WEIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD AND MAKE SURE THEY'RE ON THR RIGHT DIET. Return to index of stories...
