FIRST WEATHER-WX WALL

We'll be dodging downpours through this Tuesday evening as spotty rain continues to roam in from the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the rain may be quite heavy, and a few of these downpours could also produce lightning along with gusty winds.

We'll keep rain chances in play through the overnight into Wednesday morning as our winds continue to come in from the Gulf, which is a weather pattern that favors morning showers.

Aside from seeing scattered rain through the next couple of days, expect a partly sunny sky with temperatures topping out in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Some isolated rain will be possible again Thursday morning, and then we transition into seeing more of an afternoon storm pattern by Friday and into the upcoming weekend.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We're tracking a tropical wave in the central Atlantic that's been becoming better organized over the last couple of days.

It's a good possibility that this feature will develop into a tropical depression or perhaps even a tropical storm over the next couple days.

The track through the end of the week will be west and northwest, taking this feature toward the Windward Islands by the weekend.

Most forecast models suggest this storm eventually curve to the north by next week, which would keep the storm away from the U.S. mainland. Return to index of stories...

IT WAS THE MOST FIERCE AND HEAVY ASSAULT OF THIS THREE WEEK CONFLICT -

INCLUDING AN ATTACK ON GAZA'S ONLY POWER PLANT.

AT LEAST 100 PALESTINIANS WERE KILLED TODAY, ACCORDING TO PALESTINIAN HEALTH

THE 3 WEEK DEATH TOLL IS STAGGERING.

MORE THAN 11-HUNDRED PALESTINIANS HAVE BEEN KILLED.

YESTERDAY ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU WARNED THAT ISRAEL WOULD

KEEP UP A PROLONGED MILITARY CAMPAIGN.

ITS GOAL IS TO DECIMATE HAMAS' CAPABILITIES TO LAUNCH ROCKETS INTO ISRAEL

AND DESTROY THE GROUP'S UNDERGROUND TUNNELS ALONG THE GAZA-ISRAEL BORDER.

SECRETARY OF STATE JOHN KERRY HAS TAKEN HEAT FOR FAILING TO PRODUCE A

CEASEFIRE DEAL DURING HIS INTENSE ROUND OF SHUTTLE DIPLOMACY LAST WEEK.

TODAY HE DEFENDED HIMSELF AGAINST THE CRITICISM - MAINLY FROM THE ISRAELI

SIDE - THAT THE DEAL THAT WAS DISCUSSED HAD TOO FEW CONCESSIONS FROM HAMAS.

KERRY SOT:

What we put on the table, in fact, allowed Israel - let me make this clear -

FAMILY MEMBERS SAY THE WOMAN WAS RUNNING ERRANDS -- THEN VANISHED.

Now to the DESPERATE search for a MISSING Oregon MOM who VANISHED five days

ago while running some errands. HER family says SHE would never have left on

her own and suspect foul play but police say there are still no leads. ABC'

s Neal Karlinsky has the story

These Pictures taken from a gas station surveillance camera show the last

trace of 38 year old wife and mother Jennifer Huston, before police say she

vanished.

Huston's husband and family joined police in Oregon late Monday to plead

for any help at all.

HUSBAND AT PRESSER

maybe just look behind buildings

Her husband says he last saw her Thursday night around five-45 when she said

she was heading out to run errands.

Police say surveillance video puts her at this Circle K gas station in

Newberg Oregon at six-twentydriving her family's dark green '99 Lexus SUV-

another surveillance video, which they haven't released, shows her getting

what's described as a small amount of money from a nearby ATM.

But nothing since-no credit card activity-and no pings to her cell phone.

POLICE

We're following up on leads as far as / trying to get subpoenas for cell

phone records, bank records, any kind of video that, you know, could give us

a direction.

Her mother tells ABC News, Huston was in the midst of potty training one of

her two young children and was utterly devoted to them.

Deborah Turner, Jennifer's mother

Something is not right. Somebody has to have her because she wouldn't do

this.

Police say they have no evidence of a crime so far and are treating this as

a missing persons case.

Huston's husband, meanwhile, says he's struggling to keep the couple's two

little boys from worrying about their mom.

The Boston Harbor Cruises boat was carrying 157 passengers and six crew

members during its Monday cruise when its propeller became entangled

in the line at around 4:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The boat had left for the three-hour whale watch at 1 p.m. Monday. The

company hired a crew to free the ship but those efforts were unsuccessful.

Another vessel, the Nathaniel Bowditch, was brought out to take passengers

back to shore at around 9 p.m. but that effort did not proceed.

The company has scheduled another effort to free the boat on Monday morning,

according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard had two boats stationed near the ship overnight to bring

food, water and blankets to the passengers, the Coast Guard said. Medics

also responded to the scene to provide medical attention if needed. After

the boat was freed the crew inspected it for damage.

The boat was finally freed and arrived back at Long Wharf around 7:30

POLICE SAY YOUNG BRYSON REDD WAS SERIOUSLY BURNED TWO WEEKS AGO BUT HIS PARENTS DIDN'T SEEK HELP UNTIL YESTERDAY, RIGHT BEFORE THE LITTLE BOY DIED.

AS NEWS 5'S CHAD PETRI REPORTS THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME AUTHORITIES HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS COUPLE.

Pensacola Police didn't want to talk on camera for this story-only saying this is a horrible tragedy.

A SMALL PIECE OF POLICE TAPE IS ABOUT THE ONLY EVIDENCE, THAT ANYTHING TERRIBLE HAPPENED HERE.

"The death of a child or neglect or whatever the case may be I don't know the full story but it's always sad."

TWO YEAR OLD BRYSON REDD WAS TAKEN FROM THIS HOME TO BAPTIST HOSPITAL SUNDAY MORNING, HE WAS GOING INTO CARDIAC ARREST--POLICE SAY 2ND AND 3RD DEGREE BURNS COVERED 41-PERCENT OF HIS BODY. POLICE SAY PARENTS CHRISTOPHER REDD AND JENNIFER PERRY TOLD THEM THE LITTLE BOY SPILLED BOILING WATER ON HIMSELF TWO WEEKS AGO--BUT DIDN'T TAKE HIM TO A DOCTOR THEN BECAUSE HE ACTED NORMAL--UP UNTIL THREE DAYS BEFORE HE DIED.

POLICE SAY THE PARENTS WORRIED ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD SAY ABOUT THE INJURIES IF THEY TOOK THE TODDLER TO THE HOSPITAL AND FEARED THEIR CHILDREN WOULD BE TAKEN AWAY BECAUSE OF PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS BY THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES.

PEOPLE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD SAY SOMETHING SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE.

"These kinds of things will happen, and if it do happen no matter who's fault it was take them to the doctor."

WHILE THEY DIDN'T GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR THEIR SON--POLICE SAY WHEN PERRY BURNED HER FINGER RECENTLY SHE WENT TO THE DOCTOR AND GOT A PRESCRIPTION.

FORECAST-WXWALL

CONSUMER REPORTS WARNS - SOME OF THE TOP TIPS - JUST AREN'T TRUE.

MYTH - NUMBER ONE:

IT'S BETTER TO FUEL UP IN THE *MORNING.

-

SOME BELIEVE BUYING GAS EARLY IN THE DAY WHEN THE AIR IS COOL, MEANS THE

FUEL IS DENSER AND YOU GET MORE BANG FOR YOUR BUCK.

CONSUMER REPORTS SAYS -- THAT'S WRONG.

Jeff Bartlett - Deputy Auto Editor, Consumer Reports

14;02;05 in our tests and the analysis we found, it really doesn't matter.

Because the gasoline itself is stored underground, the temperature barely

changes if at all. /. We say fill up when it's most convenient for you.

MYTH NUMBER TWO -

REPLACING YOUR AIR FILTER - WILL SAVE YOU ON GAS.

--

WHILE YOU SHOULD FOLLOW YOUR INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND CHANGE YOUR AIR FILTER

ACCORDINGLY-

IN NEWER CARS - EXPERTS SAY - IT WON'T MAKE MUCH DIFFERENCE AT THE PUMP.

Jeff Bartlett - Deputy Auto Editor, Consumer Reports

14;00;56 On old cars, a dirty air filter can make a real difference with

performance. But on new cars, with all the self-adjustments that they can

make, we found in our testing that it actually doesn't have a big impact

MYTH THREE-

DRIVING WITH A PICKUP TRUCK'S TAILGATE DOWN - HELPS WITH FUEL EFFICIENCY.

--

CONSUMER REPORTS SAYS-

ACTUALLY - THAT HAS THE OPPOSITE EFFECT - AND MIGHT ACTUALLY CAUSE YOU TO

USE *MORE GAS.

ANOTHER COSTLY MYTH-

THAT PREMIUM GAS IS ALWAYS BETTER FOR YOUR CAR -

RETHINK YOUR DRINK-PKG

WHETHER YOU'RE AT THE BEACH OR IN THE BACKYARD THIS SUMMER -- PRACTICING GOOD HYDRATION HABITS IS ESSENTIAL.

Paying attention to hydration during summer is going to enable you to enjoy your summer without feeling too fatigued.

YOU GET SOME WATER THRU FOODS LIKE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES -- BUT *EIGHTY PERCENT OF YOUR HYDRATION COMES FROM WATER AND OTHER LIQUIDS.

SO BRUSH UP ON YOUR H2O IQ WITH THIS QUICK QUIZ.

TRUE OR FALSE?

LET YOUR THIRST BE YOUR GUIDE.

THAT'S FALSE.

You want to outpace your thirst. you do not want to get thirsty. when you're thirsty, you're already mildly dehydrated. I would suggest keeping a water bottle with you at all times. that way, you can access water wherever you are, and you can actually track how much you're drinking and being sure that you're keeping hydrated consistently.

WHAT ABOUT -- EIGHT EIGHT-OUNCE GLASSES OF WATER A DAY ARE SUFFICIENT.

THAT'S ALSO FALSE.

That's your bare minimum. Start off with that eight and build up from there.

AIM FOR ABOUT NINE GLASSES FOR WOMEN AND TWELVE FOR MEN -- WHETHER IT'S FROM THE TAP OR BOTTLED.

JUST BECAUSE WATER COMES OUT OF A BOTTLE - DOES NOT MEAN IT'S SAFER.

NEXT -- SOME DRINKS HYDRATE MORE THAN OTHERS.

IT'S TRUE.

Water is a perfect hydration policy. stick with water.

SOME CAFFEINATED BEVERAGES ARE OK. BUT BE WARY OF ALCOHOL - IT DEHYDRATES.

TIPS TO HELP YOU THINK -- OR RE-THINK -- YOUR DRINK. Return to index of stories...
