ISRAEL IS CALLING FOR ADDITIONAL TROOPS TONIGHT --

TO FIGHT HAMAS MILITANTS IN GAZA.

THE ISREAL MILITARY CALLED ON THE NEARLY 16-THOUSAND TROOPS TODAY AND REQUESTED AMMUNITION FROM THE U-S.

THIS WOULD BRING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF ISRAELI TROOPS TO 86-THOUSAND.

THE U-S HAS CALLED ON ISREAL TO PROTE CIVILIANS -

AND HAS AGREED TO RE-SUPPLY THE COUNTRY WITH AMMUNITION.

NEARLY 13-HUNDRED PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED IN GAZA.

56 IN ISRAEL.

The Israeli military said Thursday that it is calling up 16,000 additional reservists, bolstering its forces for its fight against Hamas in Gaza after a request for more ammunition from the United States.

The addition brings the total number of reservists Israel has called up since the beginning of the operation against Hamas to 86,000, a military spokeswoman said.

The conflict has killed more than 1,300 people in Gaza, most of them civilians. Fifty-six Israeli soldiers have been killed.

After more than three weeks of fighting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that Israel would complete its goal of destroying Hamas' network of tunnels with or without a cease-fire. Netanyahu said this is just the first phase of the demilitarization of Gaza.

While U.S. officials have called on Israel to do more to protect civilians, the United States has agreed to Israel's request to resupply it with several types of ammunition, a U.S. defense official told CNN on condition of anonymity. It's not an emergency sale, the official said.

Among the items being bought are tank rounds and illumination rounds, the Pentagon said. Earlier, officials had said that 120mm mortar rounds and 40mm ammunition for grenade launchers were bought, but later corrected themselves to say that this ammunition was not in this shipment. CIRCUS ACCIDENT-VO

HORROR AT THE CIRCUS.

A TWO YEAR OLD GIRL FELL FROM THE STANDS LAST NIGHT IN DALLAS.

WITNESSES SAY THE FAMILY WAS GETTING UP FROM THEIR SEATS --

WHEN THE YOUNG GIRL'S FATHER TRIPPED.

THAT CAUSED HER TO FALL FROM THE 200TH LEVEL TO THE PLAZA LEVEL.

SHE WAS RUSHED TO A NEARBY CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL.

WE'RE FINDING OUT HOW SHE'S DOING.

SCRIPT INFO:

A two-year-old child was injured after falling during a performance at the

circus Wednesday night.

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus was underway at the American

Airlines Center when the incident happened. The toddler's family was getting

up from their seats on the 200 level right before intermission when the

girl fell to the Plaza level below.

Dallas Fire-Rescue crews working at the AAC rushed to the girl. She was

taken to Children's Medical Center by ambulance.

There is no word yet on what caused her to fall, or what type of injuries

she sustained.

The circus says Thursday night's performance will go on as scheduled. A

spokesperson for the American Airlines Center says they are looking into the

incident, but they believe the child's fall was just an unfortunate

accident.

The fall appears to be unrelated to the circus performance itself. Return to index of stories...

SCRIPT:

APRIL ALLEN DOG HIT BY UPS TRUCK "She, right at the end of my sidewalk, saw

his remains laying right there in the grass"

JULY 24TH IS A DAY APRIL ALLEN AND HER FAMILY WILL NEVER FORGET.

APRIL SAYS HER YOUNGER SISTER STOPPED BY THE ALLEN'S HOME AND DISCOVERED

SOMETHING LYING IN THE FRONT YARD- THE FAMILY'S BOXER, BUCKLEY.

HER SISTER THEN WENT TO THE DOOR AND FOUND THIS LETTER ATTACHED SAYING - "

THE UPS DRIVER IN YOUR AREA ACCIDENTALLY RAN OVER YOUR DOG. PLEASE CONTACT

US"

SHE WENT IMMEDIATELY TO APRIL'S JOB TO GIVE HER THE NEWS.

"She began to cry and and says it's

Buckley"

APRIL SAYS SHE BECAME SO UPSET ABOUT BUCKLEY'S DEATH THAT SHE LEFT WORK AND

MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE BUCKLEY REMOVED BEFORE HER TWO YOUNG SONS CAME

HOME.

SHE THEN STOPPED BY THE LOCAL UPS STORE TO SPEAK WITH SOMEONE ABOUT THE

INCIDENT.

"She basically sat me down said one of our drivers informed us

today that he ran over your dog"

KQ2 REACHED OUT TO UPS TO DISCUSS THE INCIDENT AND FIND OUT WHAT WAS

STANDARD PROTOCOL FOR THIS TYPE OF INCIDENT.

THE COMPANY RESPONDED SAYING "WE DON'T SHARE DRIVER'S PERSONNEL INFORMATION

. THE DRIVER LEFT A NOTE BECAUSE HE WANTED THE CUSTOMER TO KNOW WHAT

HAPPENED. OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM TRIED TO FIND THE CUSTOMER'S PHONE NUMBER AS

WELL."

UPS WENT ON TO SAY: "OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM APOLOGIZED TO THE CUSTOMER. THE

CLAIM IS SETTLED THROUGH A THIRD PARTY INSURANCE AGENT."

BUT FOR THE ALLEN FAMILY BUCKLEY WAS MORE THAN JUST A PET, HE WAS APART OF

THE FAMILY.

"He was just like having another kid. He wanted to be right on

you and held and loved and he would lick you right in the face 'cause he

loved to kiss"

APRIL SAYS HER BIGGEST STRUGGLE HAS BEEN TRYING TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION TO

HER YOUNG CHILDREN.

"I say you know, Buckley passed away he's gone he's not coming

back and he says no mom I want him to come back and I said I'm

sorry honey but I can't"

UPS DID OFFER THE FAMILY AN INSURANCE SETTLEMENT BUT ALLEN SAYS NO AMOUNT

WILL EVER BRING BUCKLEY BACK.

ALLEN SAYS SHE'S STILL STRUGGLING TRYING TO WRAP HER HEAD AROUND THE

INCIDENT ESPECIALLY KNOWING HER FAMILY TRIED TO PROTECT BUCKLEY BY

INSTALLING A WIRELESS FENCE.

THE FAMILY UNDERSTANDS ACCIDENTS HAPPEN BUT THEIR FAMILY DOG CAN'T BE

REPLACED.

"This wasn't a completely negligent accident on our part. Our

dog was contained he was not loose. We took the measures that we possibly

could thinking that we could keep our dog safe"

ALLEN WANTS THE INCIDENT TO BE A WARNING FOR OTHER FAMILIES WITH PETS.

"It just hurts me that for people that are animal lovers and do

have special relationships you feel like there's no protection and no

justice"

KABC WEB STORY / -- A woman had to be rescued Wednesday, the same

day U.S. Forest officials announced they are closing the first waterfall

above Eaton Canyon to the public on Friday.

The woman was climbing down the hill when she lost her footing and slid for

a few feet before a tree stopped her fall Wednesday. She was hanging on the

ledge about 50 feet above the canyon bottom until the L.A. County Search and

Rescue Team hoisted her to safety.

Officials say the climb to the upper waterfall is steep and dangerous,

covered with crumbling walks.

"It's a sheer rock face they're climbing up, and when you're climbing up a

sheer rock face, there's no ropes to hang onto, there's nothing," Nathan

Judy of the U.S. Forest Service said. "So even if you're skilled in climbing

, you can still have an accident and still fall to your death as we've had

folks do."

The closure will impact a small part of the upper canyon. Signs have been

posted showing the restricted area and advising violators about potential

fines. Anyone caught in the off-limits area will be subject to fines of up

to $5,000 and/or six months in jail.

Five hikers have died in recent years, and thousands of taxpayer dollars

were sent to rescue hikers in 2013. There were more than 60 rescues in the

canyon's upper falls area in 2012.

Those rescues pose a risk to hikers and emergency personnel.

"We have to go up there, fly helicopters, which is dangerous in and of

itself, and then deliver our rescuers down from a tight rope, down to where

you're hanging off and they have to try and grab you and pull you off, so

they're risking their lives going up there as well," Judy said.

The hiker-created trail to the lower waterfalls will remain open. Return to index of stories...

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA. Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WXWALL

The onshore flow continued on Thursday, with scattered downpours and storms developing in coastal areas and then moving inland. This activity may try to push back into the Urban Corridor this evening as temps fall into the 80s. The rain and storms will slowly end overnight, with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

Storm chances will continue into Friday, but with some changes. Winds will shift to the south and east, ending the morning rainfall threat. However, scattered PM showers and storms will likely be a good bet in the Urban Corridor, with activity diminishing in the evening. Highs on Friday will be in the low 90s.

More moisture works into the area for the weekend, increasing the rain and storm chances. The activity still looks to be scattered, but coverage will likely be greater than during the work week. Highs both Saturday and Sunday will be in the low 90s.

The extra moisture looks to linger into early next week, keeping PM storm chances elevated. As we move into Tuesday and Wednesday, some slightly drier air will arrive, reducing the coverage of the PM activity.

TROPICAL UPDATE

We are still keeping a close eye on a tropical system east of the Lesser Antilles. This system looks stronger than Wednesday and the National Hurricane Center said it is nearing tropical depression status.

The hurricane center has given this system a 70% chance of development, but it could become a Tropical Depression later tonight.

All the forecast guidance has this system still impacting the Lesser and Greater Antilles, before moving northwest toward the Bahamas. It does not look like this system will impact Florida.

Elsewhere, no major activity is expected over the next 5 days. Return to index of stories...

GIRL FORCED TO SIT ON FLOOR-PKG

A GIRL ON A TREE SWING. THE PICTURE SEEMS INNOCENT ENOUGH BUT THAT DRAWING WAS DONE ON A DESK BY A FIRST GRADER AT TEXAS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

"We talked about it's not appropriate to write on school property or anyone's property for that matter and she said yes of course."

THIS MOM - WHO IS HIDING HER IDENTITY TO PROTECT HER DAUGHTER -- SAID THE TEACHER TOLD HER THAT PUNISHMENT WAS TO CLEAN THE DESK, MISS RECESS AND GO TO THE PRINCIPAL'S OFFICE. BUT THERE WAS ONE MORE PENALTY MOM SAYS WAS NEVER MENTIONED.

"The teacher said you're not getting a desk back until the second grade"

ALL HER CLASSMATES HAD A DESK AND CHAIR BUT THE 7-YEAR OLD SAT ON THE FLOOR WITH A CLIPBOARD FOR MORE THAN FOUR WEEKS.

"I asked her why did you not tell me and she said I was too scared to tell you mama because she thought what she had done was so bad she didn't deserve to have a desk."

THE SCHOOL DISTRICT INVESTIGATED AND SAYS THE TEACHER WAS REPRIMANDED FOR HER CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND THAT THE FAMILY HAS BEEN OFFERED MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES TO TRANSFER THEIR CHILD, EITHER TO ANOTHER TEACHER WITHIN THE SCHOOL OR TO ANY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT WHERE ENROLLMENT IS NOT CAPPED.

"She definitely has some fears going into the second grade."

THIS MOM CHOSE TO WITHDRAW HER DAUGHTER AND HAS PICKED ANOTHER SCHOOL FOR THE NEW YEAR BUT THE GIRL'S LITTLE BROTHER CAN'T GO WITH HER BECAUSE HIS GRADE IS CAPPED AND THE WHOLE EXPERIENCE HAS LEFT THIS MOM FEELING HELPLESS.

"I mean it's like a primal instinct that you feel to protect your child and the fact that I sent her there everyday not knowing that that's what she was going into because nobody made me aware it's horrible." Return to index of stories...

"he said I slaughtered a pig on my business property the other day. He said

I've been doing it for 15 years."

"he said 'i've got all of them. You're good. I said 'ok, we'd like the soil

to be removed too because.it's gross."

THE MANAGER APOLOGIZED AND FIXED THE ISSUE.

SUGGESTED INTRO:

The stench was so bad it almost made them sick.

A couple couldn't believe what they found buried in the soil after hiring a

local landscaping company.

A word of warning, you may find these photos disturbing.

First Coast News David Williams has more.

"as she was digging, she saw something and she dug around it and that's when

she had discovered that there was actually some kind of animal part in

there."

THEY FOUND AT LEAST 2 MORE IN OTHER SPOTS.

FRANK SNAPPED THESE PHOTOS AND KNEW EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS.BURIED ABOUT 13

INCHES DEEP.

"that's a pig leg. She said how do you know? I said I know what the hoof

looks like."

IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT.FRANK'S WIFE IS A SEMI VEGETERIAN

"She was disturbed by it. I was disturbed by it."

FRANK SHOWED ME A CREDIT CARD STATEMENT WHERE THEY PAID $300 TO A LOCAL

LANDSCAPING COMPANY ON JULY 22. HE SAYS THE SERVICES WERE TO REMOVE PALM

TREES AND PUT SOIL IN.

"he said I slaughtered a pig on my business property the other day. He said

I've been doing it for 15 years."

HE SAYS THE COMPANY'S OWNER CAME OUT AND TOOK THE PUTRID PORK AWAY

"he said 'i've got all of them. You're good. I said 'ok, we'd like the soil

to be removed too because.it's gross."

FRANK CLAIMS THE OWNER RECENTLY SAID HE'D PUT LIME ON THE GROUND BUT FRANK

SAID THAT HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

"he called my wife and adimently told her that he was not going to come get

the soil."

"I'm sorry, for him to not take care of his customers like that, I think is

bad business."

A MANAGER TOLD ME THEY RECENTLY BOUGHT FRESH CLEAN SOIL AND AFTER CLEANING A

PIG, THE PIG PARTS WERE ACCIDENTALLY LEFT INSIDE THE BUCKET OF A BACK-HOE

USED TO MOVE SOIL. THE MANAGER SAID THE OWNER APOLIGIZED, REMOVED THE PARTS

FROM THE FRANK'S SOIL AND THAT THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. Return to index of stories...

WX TEASE-WXWALL

GREEK YOGURT-TCMON

GREEK YOGURT -- IS THE HOT NEW FOOD FOR PEOPLE TRYING TO EAT HEALTHY.

IS IT REALLY BETTER?

IN TONIGHT'S A-B-C 7 HEALTHY LIVING -- WE HAVE THE ANSWER. Return to index of stories...

GREEK YOGURT-PKG

WHEN IT COMES TO YOGURT, VARIETY IS KEY. LOW-FAT, HIGH CALCIUM, GREEK, PLAIN, FLAVORED, EVEN SPRINKLED YOGURTS ARE FULL OF GOOD THINGS, LIKE PROTEIN, AND NUTRIENTS.

"They keep us full for a longer period of time, they are good for maintaining and building muscle mass over a course of a life span, and many of them are rich in calcium and vitamin d and they contain that live and healthy bacteria that's good for the digestive tract."

BUT SOMETIMES IT'S TOUGH TO DECIDE WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE. NUTRITION EXPERTS SAY IT ALL DEPENDS WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

GREEK YOGURT SEEMS TO BE THE HOTTEST ITEM IN THE DAIRY SECTION THESE DAYS. PACKED, SOMETIMES WITH TWICE AS MUCH PROTEIN THAN REGULAR YOGURT, MANY PEOPLE SAY THEY LIKE IT FOR ITS CONSISTENCY AND TASTE. GREEK YOGURT DIFFERS BECAUSE THE WHEY, OR LIQUID TOP IN REGULAR YOGURT, IS FILTERED THROUGH, WHICH MAKES GREEK YOGURT CREAMIER AND GIVES IT A TANGIER FLAVOR.

"Some companies actually add whey back, and that's a very valuable protein."

IF YOU'RE TRYING TO LOAD UP ON CALCIUM, OR WATCHING YOUR FATS, SALT AND SUGARS, DIETITIANS SAYS IT'S BEST TO READ THE LABELS, BECAUSE DIFFERENT BRANDS HAVE DIFFERENT NUTRITIONAL CONTENT. Return to index of stories...
