FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

After a very busy weather week across Southwest Florida, our rain chance will trend lower as we go through our weekend.

With that said, we'll still have some rain around in spots, but the overall coverage should be much lower.

Those of us closer to the coast will see the potential for some passing downpours through our Saturday morning, and some of these cells may contain some lightning as well.

As we progress through the early to mid afternoon, the highest rain chances will shift away from the coast and toward our inland areas.

Outside of a passing storm, our sky will stay partly cloudy to mostly sunny with temperatures warming into the low to mid 90s.

Some drier air will help reduce rain chances from Sunday into early next week, but we'll still keep the door open for some isolated storms during the heat of the day.

Since our weather will be trending drier, temperatures will be a touch higher with highs pushing into the mid 90s for most of the week.

Tropical Update

It is still very quiet in the open waters of the Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean as we move into the weekend. The atmosphere across the tropics is not very conducive for development right now.

No major activity is expected over the next five days. Return to index of stories...

MAIN WEATHER-WXWALL

A MARKETING EXECUTIVE AND FATHER OF TWO IS TAKING ON SOME TOUCHED UP ADS THAT WERE RELEASED BY THE BODY CARE COMPANY - "DOVE".

EVEN KIERA KNIGHTLY, PROTESTING A PUBLICITY PHOTO THAT THE STAR CLAIMS

BOOSTED HER BUST.

AND THIS MORNING - FATHER OF TWO AND MARKETING EXECUTIVE - SETH MATLINS -

SAYS HE TOO HAS HAD ENOUGH WITH RETOUCHING

SO, MATLINS STARTED A PETITION ONLINE - HOPING TO EXPOSE WHAT HE DESCRIBES

AS AN INDUSTRY WIDE PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS.CALLING ON DOVE - FAMOUS FOR

THEIR DECADE-LONG, REAL BEAUTY CAMPAIGN - URGING THE COMPANY TO MAKE "REAL

BEAUTY, MORE REAL."

SOT SM: Advertisers need to recognize that they are responsible and

accountable for the health consequences that these ads are creating.

MATLINS IS ASKING DOVE TO SET A BAR BY SIGNING HIS PLEDGE, ACKNOWLEDGING

WHETHER OR NOT THEY PHOTOSHOP THEIR ADS - AND IF THEY *ARE* PHOTOSHOPPED, TO

NOT RUN THEM IN PLACES WHERE CHILDREN CAN SEE THEM

14:35:53:00 AB: Is it in your opinion, that Dove *does* Photoshop

, even in this "Real" campaign?

14:35:59:00 SM: I don't know what Dove does. And that's the

point. The point is, we don't know what's real anymore.

SOT Jessica Blumenthal / Senior Director of Trend and Strategy at Trendera:

I think that today we're seeing that brands are trying to be more real and

we see it in the marketing that's happening now. But there's still so much

work to be done.

DOVE HAS YET TO SIGN ON.SAYING IN A STATEMENT."When the Dove Campaign

for Real Beauty launched in 2004, we made a commitment to all women that we

would not distort any of our images to create an unrealistic view of beauty.

"

STILL, MATLINS IS HOPING HIS PASSION PROJECT WILL CALL FOR CHANGE

14:34:11:00 This is not gonna fix everything. But it is the ethical thing

to do, it is a step in the right direction.

HEALTH MIN: ASPIRINS-PKG

A NEW STUDY SUGGESTS AN ASPIRIN A DAY MAY KEEP SEVERAL TYPES OF CANCER AWAY.

RESEARCHERS REPORT IN THE "ANNALS OF ONCOLOGY," TAKING LOW-DOSE ASPIRIN FOR 10-YEARS COULD CUT THE RISK OF COLON, STOMACH OR ESOPHAGEAL CANCER. IN SOME CASES BY HALF!

RESEARCHERS SAY THE BENEFITS OUTWEIGH THE DANGERS OF LONG-TERM ASPIRIN USE, LIKE STOMACH BLEEDING, BUT CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT WHAT'S RIGHT FOR YOU.

THE DEADLINE IS UP FOR FOODS USING THE "GLUTEN FREE" LABEL.

TO USE THE LABEL NOW, FOODS MUST NOT HAVE A DETECTABLE AMOUNT OF GLUTEN, AND NO WHEAT, RYE, BARLEY, OR ANYTHING DERIVED FROM THEM.

LAST AUGUST, THE F-D-A TOLD FOOD MANUFACTURERS THEY HAD ONE YEAR TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS.

THE RULING APPLIES TO PACKAGED FOODS ONLY.

AND DOCTORS PREDICT HEPATITIS-C IN THE U-S WILL BECOME A RARE DISEASE BY 20-36.

THAT'S MOSTLY DUE TO NEW MEDICATIONS AND WIDESPREAD SCREENING.

TO BE CONSIDERED RARE, ONE IN 15-HUNDRED PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED. RIGHT NOW, HEP-C AFFECTS ONE IN ONE-HUNDRED.

SOME EXPERTS DOUBT THE DEADLINE WILL BE MET BECAUSE THE RESEARCHERS MADE ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE SCREENED IN THE FUTURE.
