FORECAST-WXWALL

FORECAST: QUIET CONDITIONS TONIGHT, LIMITED RAIN CHANCES TUESDAY

Generally quiet conditions are expected tonight with only an isolated shower risk across Southwest Florida. The areas of greatest opportunity for some rain come for communities along and east of I-75.

Overnight low temperatures will range from the mid to upper 70s along the coastline to low and mid 70s for communities in the inland areas of the state.

For Tuesday, we will experience an onshore component to the wind. With winds coming in from the Gulf of Mexico it is possible we could see an isolated shower scrape along our coastal communities early in the day, before lunchtime.

By the afternoon hours, the risk for rain and thunder will migrate inland keeping most of the coastal areas of the region dry.

Highs on Tuesday should range from around 91 at Naples, 93 at Fort Myers and 94 at Port Charlotte.

Wednesday will likely have a decent chance for an early-day shower mainly along the coastline. By the afternoon our rain prospects again move inland east of the interstate.

TROPICAL UPDATE

A new tropical wave is being noted by satellite imagery off the western coast of Africa.

The unorganized collection of showers and thunderstorms is showing no signs of immediate development.

According to National Hurricane Center meteorologists, the disturbance has a 0% chance of cyclone development in the next two days, with a 20% chance through the next five.

Forecast model data places the tropical wave moving westward at 15 to 20 mph through Monday.

Over the open Atlantic, model forecast data diverges. Some data suggests the disturbance will curl more toward the north in the Atlantic while other models hold it moving due west toward the Caribbean.

It is too early to determine if the tropical wave will become the third named tropical event of the 2014 Atlantic Hurricane Center and if it will pose any impact on our weather in Southwest Florida. Return to index of stories...
