PKG SCRIPT:

NATS - siren

Another night of violent protests in Ferguson, Missouri.

Tensions still simmering days after a police officer shot and killed an

unarmed black teenage last Saturday.

Demonstrators threw Molotov cocktails and other objects at police.

NATS - tear gas

Officers responded firing tear gas.

Reporter: "WERE YOU IN THE FRONT LINE UP THERE?"

MOS unidentified protestor: "IN THE FRONT LINE, YES. AND THEY JUST STARTED

SHOOTING."

While some of the nighttime protests have gotten out of hand.

NATS - daytime march

"Justice for Michael Brown!"

During the day, peaceful demonstrators raised their arms chanting "Hands up

! Don't shoot!"

That surrender sign now a symbol of so many people's anger.

MOS Keith Loyd, Protestor

"IT SHOULDN'T BE NO COP SHOOTING NO CHILD."

The Chief of Police is trying to turn the temperature down. He meets with

the family of Michael Brown today.

But with death threats coming in, the chief is refusing to identify the

officer who shot and killed the 18-year-old.

For now, all the chief will say is that the officer was injured.

SOT Chief Thomas Jackson

"HIS FACE WAS SWOLLEN, SO HE'D OBVIOUSLY BEEN HIT OR PUNCHED OR SOMETHING

LIKE THAT."

The St. Louis County prosecutor is promising a full investigation and the

FBI has opened a civil rights inquiry.

The virtually all white Ferguson police force is now working with the

Justice Department on community relations. Two-thirds of the city's

residents are black.

FORECAST-WXWALL

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

Early this morning, a couple of downpours have already developed and worked their way to our coastline from the Gulf of Mexico. Through the morning to midday time frame, we'll see some scattered downpours washing ashore and fading once they come ashore. This is happening as the onshore wind flow continues to dominate our weather pattern. By this afternoon, there will still be a few storms, but they will be mainly inland. Even as most of the activity heads inland this afternoon, a stray shower can still wash ashore at any time.

For Friday and into the weekend, rain chances will be limited. With winds staying onshore, we will still be in the pattern of the chance for a morning shower to come in from the Gulf of Mexico and the isolated afternoon activity will be aimed toward the inland areas.

Highs today and through the next few days will be near 90 degrees at the coastline to the mid 90s in the inland areas. Lows will stay in the mid and upper 70s.

Tropical Update

Other than a couple tropical wave in the eastern Atlantic, the tropics continue to stay quiet. Tropical activity is not expected for the next few days, but we're getting close to the time of year when we normally see an increase in tropical development. Return to index of stories...

IT'S A SHOCKING PHOTO OF A TWO MONTH OLD BABY GIRL.WITH A PACIFIER DUCT TAPED TO HER MOUTH.

"It was just a prop photo, a photo just to be funny."

THE CHILD'S MOTHER SAYS.

"It was on maybe 10-15 seconds, long enough to take a picture."

AND LONG ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN UPROAR ON FACEBOOK.

"We would never go out of our way to harm these children ever. ever."

COMMENTERS SHARED THE PHOTO SAYING CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES SHOULD STEP IN.

BY FRIDAY THEY DID AND TURNED THE INVESTIGATION OVER TO THE FRANKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE.

"Duct taping a child's pacifier to their mouth, covering up their option to spit that pacifier out and give them their airway, so that if they spit up, it doesn't go back down their airway, their lungs.this is crazy. It's dangerous."

THAT WASN'T THE ONLY PICTURE POSTED.

THERE WAS ANOTHER WITH THE BABY IN A POT NEXT TO POTATOES.

"Can you understand why people would be concerned and think that it's something negative?"

"I really can't answer that because if you really look at the photo you can see that the duct tape was barely touching her face."

FRANKLIN COUNTY SHERIFF ZACH SCOTT SAYS NO CRIMINAL CHARGES WILL BE FILED IN THIS CASE, BUT DETECTIVES WILL HAND OVER THEIR FINDINGS TO THE COUNTY PROSECUTORS OFFICE.

"My babies, they're perfect. I don't abuse them. I don't even whoop my children. I wound never do any thing to try to suffocate her, tt was just a prop photo it was supposed to be funny and social media, Facebook blew it out of proportion." Return to index of stories...

FORECAST-WX WALL

TESTING PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT-TC MON VO

WE HAVE A WARNING FOR PARENTS ABOUT A PLAYGROUND DANGER ON THESE WARM SUMMER DAYS.

IT DOESN'T HAVE TO HOT TO HEAT UP THE EQUIPMENT ON YOUR CHILD'S PLAYGROUND.

ABC'S BAZI KANANI HAS THE DETAILS. Return to index of stories...

TESTING PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT-PKG

SUMMER SUN MEANS SUMMER FUN FOR KIDS EVERYWHERE BUT BARE SKIN AND HOT

PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT CAN LEAD TO SERIOUS BURNS.

ON 5 DAYS THIS SUMMER USING AN INFRARED THERMOMETER AT THE HOTTEST TIME OF

DAY GMA INVESTIGATES TESTED PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT ACROSS THE COUNTRY -

RECORDING THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURES. THIS METAL SURFACE IN LA: 129 DEGREES.

THIS BABY SWING IN HOUSTON: 138 DEGREES. THIS SWING IN PHOENIX: 150. THE

BLACK TOP AT THE SAME PLAYGROUND: A WHOPPING 185 degrees. AND ON THe PLASTIC

SLIDES we tested- 158 TO AN UNBELIEVABLE 189 DEGREES.

AT 140 DEGREES IT CAN TAKE AS LITTLE AS 3 SECONDS FOR A CHILD TO GET A

SECOND DEGREE BURN AND 5 SECONDS TO GET A 3RD DEGREE BURN. American

burn organization and anti scald Inc.

BUT IF YOU THINK THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE HAS TO BE SWELTERING FOR PLAYGROUND

EQUIPMENT TO HEAT UP-- THINK AGAIN.

WHEN KHARA SINCLAIR TOOK HER KIDS TO THE INDIANAPOLIS ZOO IN EARLY SPRING,

IT NEVER CROSSED HER MIND TO CHECK THE TEMPERATURE OF THE EQUIPMENT, HER

THEN 22 MONTH OLD GIRL TYNLEE HEADED STRAIGHT FOR THE SLIDE.

01;02;57;29 KHARA SINCLAIR: So she scooted forward and as she

scooted she stuck like didnt go at all/

01;03;14;03 She screamed really loud. Something i had never heard

before in my life / so I ran over and grabbed her and picked her up off the

slide. 01;03;50;0 but as i grabbed her skin just stayed with the slide on

the back of her leg.

THAT SLIDE - BAKING IN THE SUN -SHE SAYS DOCTORS AT THE ER TOLD HER GAVE HER

A NEAR THIRD DEGREE BURN.

Khara: 01;10;38;22 it was April and 72 degrees so absolutely not it just

blew my mind.

A YEAR LATER, TYNLEE STILL HAS A SCAR AND REFUSES TO GO DOWN SLIDES.

NATS

THE ZOO TOLD GMA INVESTIGATES THAT "THE INCIDENT WAS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND

AND HAVE SINCE IMPLEMENTED A POLICY OF REGULARLY INSPECTING SLIDE

TEMPERATURES."

01;04;09;24 KANANI: which children are more at risk?

01;04;18;17 / its really children 2 and under because younger

children's skin is thinner and more delicate and they may not have the

reflex to move their body part away from the heat.

WE TESTED EVEN MORE EQUIPMENT AT A DC PLAYGROUND WITH RACHEL WEINTRAUB FROM

THE CONSUMER FEDERATION OF AMERICA

01;29;03;11 KANANI: WE'VE GOT A THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA AND A

THERMOMETER TO CHECK OUT JUST HOW HOT THIS PLAYGROUND GETS

ON A SLIGHTLY OVERCAST 85 DEGREE DAY WITH MANY KIDS PLAYING WE MEASURE THE

SLIDE. AT FIRST - IT'S A MILD 86 DEGREES, BUT WATCH WHAT HAPPENS AFTER

JUST 2 MINUTES OF SUN EXPOSURE

01;15;12;59 KANANI: ALREADY UP TO 100 DEGREES NOW

AND AFTER 10 MINUTES

BAZI It's now 133 degrees that's hot enough to burn a child.
