FORECAST: Weekend rain chances

An onshore wind flow pattern will continue tonight pushing scattered showers and storms from the Gulf of Mexico toward Southwest Florida.

Through this evening areas of rain and thunder will continue, with the activity becoming increasing isolated in coverage toward midnight.

For the upcoming weekend, we will again bear the chance of a shower or storm in the morning on Saturday, compliments of the continued onshore wind flow. By the afternoon the greatest coverage of rain and thunder should mainly be along and east of Interstate 75, with an isolated risk remaining in the forecast for communities closer to the Gulf of Mexico shoreline.

Temperatures on Saturday are expected to range from the upper 80s along the beaches to low 90s for communities inland.

On Sunday, a wedge of drier air will begin working into the mid-levels of the atmosphere. This air will help to cut back significantly on our rainfall opportunities with rain chances falling to around 20% during the afternoon.

With less rain on the radar temperatures should be able to warm up near 94 degrees just after lunchtime.

TROPICAL UPDATE

No tropical cyclones are active in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. None are expected to be able to develop within the next two days as well.

Despite the lack of any organized tropical activity, tropical waves off the coast of Africa continue to move along in the Atlantic. There continues to be a good deal of dry and dusty air over the water, and that is helping to keep conditions relatively quiet. Return to index of stories...
