FIRST WEATHER-WX CTR

THIS WEATHERCAST HAS BEEN PREPARED BY THE ABC7 WEATHER STAFF.

IT IS NOT A VERBATIM OF WHAT IS BEING SAID, BUT IS THE FORECAST FOR OUR AREA.

An onshore breeze will help bring in a few spotty downpours as we start our Saturday, and a few thunderstorms will also be possible through the day as well.

Expect the highest rain chances to shift inland with the sea breeze later in the afternoon, but some isolated rain will still be possible closer to the coast through the evening.

Outside of a passing storm today, expect more heat and humidity as temperatures climb into the upper 80s to low 90s along the coast and as high as the mid 90s deeper inland.

Our weather turns drier starting Sunday as a layer of dry, stable air works in from the southeast, which will dramatically chip away at our rain chances. However, with so much heat still in place, a few isolated storms will still be possible Sunday afternoon.

As rain chances stay on the lower side Sunday into the early part of the week, temperatures will really have an opportunity to climb.

Daytime highs will be pushing into the mid 90s for much of Southwest Florida from Sunday through Tuesday, and heat indices could range from 105-110 during the peak heating of the day.

Rain chances will start to creep back into the forecast by the middle of the week as tropical moisture builds back into Southwest Florida.

Tropical Update

A tropical wave emerging off the coast of Africa is showing signs of becoming slightly better organized and has a slight chance at forming into a tropical depression over the next few days. Even if a tropical depression managed to form, dry air on ahead of the system would make conditions highly unfavorable for development.

Elsewhere in the tropics, there are no signs of tropical activity. Return to index of stories...

WEATHER-WX CTR

SEVERAL TURTLES WERE FITTED WITH SATELLITE TRACKING TRANSMITTORS THAT ATTACH TO THEIR SHELLS.

RESEARCHERS USE DATA FROM THOSE DEVICES TO SEE WHICH OF THE TURTLES TRAVEL THE FASTEST IN A THREE MONTH PERIOD.

Rehabilitated loggerhead sea turtle Pine Tyme was fitted with a satellite

tracking transmitter and released into the ocean in Marathon, Florida Friday

and will now compete in the Tour de Turtles, an event organized by

the Sea Turtle Conservancy.

The Tour de Turtles, according to Sea Turtle Conservancy spokesperson Dan

Evans, is a three-month long "race" among eleven sea turtles in Florida and

the Caribbean to see which turtle travels the farthest.

Evans says the race not only serves to educate the public about protecting

sea turtles, but also produces valuable data that the Sea Turtle Conservancy

uses in their research.

Pine Tyme, who was recently treated for the loss of one of her flippers, is

the last of the eleven turtles to enter the competition. Return to index of stories...

SHE WAS ALREADY IN LABOR WHEN SHE ARRIVED AT FISHER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

"It was very important because he wasn't going to have space -- any more space available to him and it's very important for him to go to school."

SHE THOUGHT SHE'D JUST DROP OFF HIS APPLICATION AND HEAD STRAIGHT TO THE HOSPITAL.

"I went and gave them the package and said am I missing anything else cause I'm in labor right now and I have to go."

BUT SHE DIDN'T MAKE OUT THE FRONT DOOR.

GEOVANNI WOULDN'T WAIT.

SHE WAS USHERED INTO THE SCHOOL NURSE'S OFFICE WHERE NURSE ASHLEY MORRIS TRIED TO HELP HER WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY CALLING 911.

"I'm trying to get on my gloves and I look and the baby is crowning. So I threw the box down. I've got the phone here and I see the baby, and I had no choice. Mom pushed and we pulled the baby out."

GEOVANNI WAS DELIVERED BEFORE AN AMBULANCE COULD ARRIVE, ALL 6 POUNDS, 3 OUNCES OF HIM.

THEY SWADDLED THE BABY IN SCHOOL T-SHIRTS BECAUSE THERE WERE NO TOWELS AVAILABLE THEN SENT HIM AND MOM OFF TO THE HOSPITAL.
