FORECAST: ISOLATED RAIN AND HOT TEMPS

A few isolated showers and thunderstorms will be possible in Southwest Florida through the late afternoon and evening timeframe.

Area-wide coverage of activity able to develop will remain below 20% of our region.

Overnight temperatures should range from near 80 degrees along the immediate coastline to upper 70s along the US 41 corridor.

On Tuesday we are expecting another hot, humid and somewhat dry day across the west coast of the peninsula.

Like today, temperatures are forecast to top out near 95 at Fort Myers, 94 at Port Charlotte and 93 at Naples.

Though a good deal of the day should be rather dry, keep in mind like today we could once again see a few isolated showers, downpours or thunderstorms develop especially in the afternoon.

Rain and thunder on Tuesday should be isolated, with the area-wide coverage remaining at 20% or less. This is well below what we typically see in mid-August.

TROPICAL UPDATE

Several tropical waves are being noted on satellite off Africa's west coast but shwoing no signs of concerning development. At this time no tropical cyclones are active in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean. None are expected to develop in the next two days.

Conditions remain somewhat hostile toward cyclone organization at the moment with masses of dry air over regions of the ocean and unfavorable wind sheer near the Caribbean. Return to index of stories...
