TRACKING MORE HEAT FOR FRIDAY

The hot weather from earlier in the week continued Thursday, with highs again pushing into the mid 90s. Scattered storms also developed, and this activity will continue into the evening hours. We'll again see very humid conditions overnight, with lows in the mid to upper 70s.

More heat is ahead to close the work week. Expect partly cloudy skies for much of the day, with highs yet again in the mid 90s. Heat indices in the afternoon will again climb above 100. Scattered storms will develop in the PM hours, but most areas will likely stay dry.

More moisture will begin to work into the region for the weekend. Saturday will feature a slightly better chance for scattered storms, with highs in the mid 90s.

The moisture begins to pool on Sunday, which will bring a good chance of PM showers and storms area-wide. Highs on Sunday will be in the low 90s.

A big pattern shift is expected to start next week. Tropical moisture will move in, keeping rain and storm chances high for much of next week. While it not expected to rain all next week, rainfall will likely be much greater than the past two weeks.

Tropical Update

We are still keeping a very close eye on a disturbance near the Lesser Antilles. This system is very large but disorganized. The disturbance could become a Tropical Depression in the next 48 hours.

The National Hurricane Center is giving this system a 70 percent chance of development over the next 5 days. The disturbance will impact the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico Friday into the weekend.

There is still a lot of uncertainty as to where this system will go early next week and whether it will impact our weather. As always, we'll be keeping a very close eye on the system. Return to index of stories...
